  1. Cadet Freestyle

Reaching the Semi-Finals and thus securing at least All American status

    Konrath

    Red

    N. Lee

    Woods

We have a few guys battling back in the consolation round for All American Status too.

Looks like IN will get 5 cadet AA (FS)

In addition to the 4 that are in the semis

    E. Eldred secured top 8 status through the cons.

4 others in the cons fell 1 match short of AA

    Good showing thus far.

  2. Well said Maligned.

I must say I have been impressed with Lee's wrestling, but watching him handle himself after his only loss, I became even more impressed with his character.

He, Micic and their respective coaches put on a display of class and respect after that match.

Then saturday night, Lee was on the podium with a giant smile in place of the dejected look I saw from many others. It was refreshing to see.

Lee has the potential to carry on the role of ambassador that Micic has played so well.  These guys (Davis too) are everything that is right with Indiana Wrestling.

  3. Why would that matter? You either won it or you didn't. I would think the title is the number 1 criteria.

I respectfully disagree. I think even if (and I predict that he will) Lee looses to Micic I still think he is the most impressive Freshman in IN based purely on how he wrestles. Micic is soooo good that a loss to him almost shouldn't count.

Now I will back talk because I re-read the thread topic...I respectfully agree, Lee would have win to even be in consideration for best freshman campaign

  4. We used to have a running list of national accomplishments (maybe on ISWA site at one point), but I'm not sure where that has went recently.

I was looking for this list and thought I was loosing my mind -- glad to see that it did exist.

Bring it back!!! It would make discussion like this som much easier.

On the combination of in state and out of state accomplishments during high school years,

Sliga may have the best combination

2x state champ, 2x 3rd (only losses in state were to state finalists that were 2-4 years older)

    5 - Fargo championships; 1 Fila-cadet; cadet triple crown winner; USAW cadet folkstyle national champ;

(non-championship accolades include 2x Fila Junior AA - with victories over D1 wrestlers including at least 1 NCAA qualifier; 5th in Fila Cadet's worlds)

Jason Tsirtsis probably has the overall most impressive victories durring his high school years.

4x State champ (his freshman year run at the state finals maybe the most impressive ever as a freshman - beating the returning state champ that went on to win Fargo Juniors that summer and was runner-up at senior nationals)

1 Fargo Title (Junior - 4x AA I believe); Fila Cadet National Champion; 2x Flonationals Champ; Won Dapper Dan and Dream Team All-start Matches, 2012 Intermat's high school wrestler of the year

Runner up at Super32 (twice i think)

Wins at senior level while still in high school (In and Olympic team qualifier - he beat Former D1 national Champ - Unbelievable; barely missed out on qualifying for olympic team trials)

  5. Back on topic we have four Cadet All-Americans

Dylan Lydy, Shawn Streck, Nick Lee and Randy Scott

Seven Juniors are still alive after a brutal day

Mitch Sliga, Big Wes Bernard, Vinny "the Jersey shore" Corsaro, Riley "the best" Lefever, Fletcher Miller, Connor Tolley and Chase "I'm no" Hack

    Today's sessions are as follows

    9am-1pm- Juniors and Cadets

    2pm-5pm- Cadet Finals

    6pm-8pm- Juniors

Come on no nick names for Miller, Tolley and Sliga?

How about Mitch "One for the Thumb" Sliga?  Or at minimum just Sliga (one name says it all)

After all, he is going for an Indiana record 5th Fargo title (5 titles maybe a tie - not sure).

  6. One of the rare two loss wrestlers in the finals.  Vertical pairing can have some interesting results.

I was trying to find some data on this - but my job has kept me from it.

It would be very interesting to know the # of times (if any) that a Fargo Champ had 2 earlier losses (or runner-up with 3)...

  7. IN Cadets continue roll strong following up a great showing at Cadet National Duals (FS), Indiana gets 6 AA in Cadet Greco:

    Egli (going for 7th)

Coy (ended up a point short in an extremely entertaining RR match - will go for 5th)

    Red (going for 3rd)

    Cavins (going for 7th)

Scott (RR yet to be sorted out - but looks like he will finish no less than 2nd in pool)

    Streck (going for 3rd)

  8. This is the KEY issue. If the following lineup shows up for ILLINOIS, it's going to be a long day for the INDIANA squad.

195lbs: 3A Ricky Robertson, Sr., Nationally Ranked-signed with Wisconsin (I believe?); Jordan Ellingwood, Sr., Nationally Ranked and has beaten Sliga in the past...but Sliga has beaten him too, if I recall?

Sliga beat him this past summer at Fila Cadets to earn a spot on the national team.  Not sure of when else they wrestled.  Robertson was down at least 1 weight class at Fargo.

  9. Micic is Ranked number 2 in the Nation. I wanna see who is ranked number one, because I don't see anyone lasting 3 periods with him even in state!!! The kid is a beast!!!

The sophomore kid who beat him at Fargo is ranked #1 - It's a big scary world out there.

If memory serves, it was a close match but Valencia (CA) got him in 2 periods - I'd like to think Micic would win in a rematch.

From what I've seen, Micic is a great ambassador for IN wrestling and could be challenging for a spot on the 2020 Olympic team...

  10. I didn't see the iranian in the olympic gold m..edal match (in the last 20 secs of either period) get out of position or offer to burroughs any better of an opportunity for a takedown than he had in the first 1:40 of the periods.

I disagree -- The Iranian started biting on Burrough's feints and that created the openings -- That is when Burroughs is at his best against these top level guys, when he can get them to bite on his feints - when people don't bite he can still find offense but those are the periods he has lost (in some cases).
