  1. jlaw1981, you probably think class wrestling is a good thing as well. Apologists? I'm not apologizing for what Metcalf did though the more I read of these goofy responses the more I think Metcalf was right.
  2. Jeesh GrecoISU...you don't get it. It's not about being a Metcalf lover or hater. It's about Caldwell, great wrestler that he is, make himself look like a complete A$$ on the biggest stage in college wrestling. It's about wrestling all 7 minutes and the personal integrity to man up when the time counts rather than taking a fake blow because he's gassed. It's about wrestling until the ref blows the whistle, at least that's what I've heard most coaches say. All the great things he did in that match through periods one and two, and he did what nobody thought could be done, for me anyway, are forgotten for the cowardess and lack of class he showed in the end. Caldwell is one of the best this country has to offer. I think he could have won that match with out faking the injury. He had Metcalf's number. If I remember, he even took Metcalf down after his little break and let's not forget that Metcalf had time to rest and compose himself as well. I think he is one of the most exciting wrestlers in college to watch, as slick and smooth as Angel in a much bigger body. You never know how he is going to come at you. Still, well enough said. As a Hoosier fan, I'm certainly not a Metcalf lover. I respect how he wrestles with intensity for all seven minutes.
  3. You guys must be taking drugs before you write stuff. Here's what probably went down: Caldwell and coach plan it out all ahead of time. Go at Metcalf early and hard. Hit him before he can react. Use up all the gas in the tank in periods one and two. Then stall, stall, stall in period three. If there is trouble and the tank is completely empty, simply call a blow time out. Call it back pain so the ref can't tell if it's for real. Take the head gear off, towel off, grab some water, then reluctantly carry on. Just remember not to ruin the charade by doing one of those patented back flips at the end, but by all means, if the opportunity arises, do some sort of celebration just before time runs out to dis a fellow competitor! The making of a role model!
  4. Jeesh...now that I think about it you're right Drooke. I guess maybe I'm a little turned off by ESPN2 making such a big deal out of the Robles match while Angel was on. I think I even heard Mena screaming in the back ground! ;D
  5. yep...if he gets some offense.
  6. AJ...I need to say I think your dead wrong on this one. I rarely see wrestlers run around doing cartwheels and back flips before time runs out. Especially on the NCAA main stage. What a bunch of B.S. I admit that Metcalf got his butt handed to him and the "injury" time out surely helped Caldwell's cause, still, the guy showed little class for a champion.
  7. No way should Caldwell win the Hodge. Sure, he beat Metcalf, but IMO he took a bogus injury time out just to catch his breath and showed no class with the showboat antics at the end of the match.
  8. Alright, I guess I'll be the jerk here and say that there's something not right about having to wrestle a guy who is always on his knee. Has anyone ever seen a two legged wrestler with a style of dropping to his knees? I don't know. I thought it was a boring match on Friday night or maybe I was just p.o.'d about not getting to watch Angel and Nickerson duke it out.
  9. LOL....Look, hopefully by now, you know I love the Hoosiers as much as all of you. Angel is truly a champion to do what he did this year. The book is still out on Ortega. As far as Hernandez is concerned, I'm not completely convinced that he shouldn't have wrestled 33 again and let Kelly wrestle 41. I thought Wap had a pretty decent year. It seems that some folks may have watched tape of Kinser and figured out how to wrestle him. Still, one of the most intense guys on the squad. Young had a great year though I think it could have been better with a little more gas in the tank. Perry always seemed either hot or cold. Cameron's NCAA bid was a fluke. I predict Powless will be an IU All American next season. Everhart will do much better if the Hoosier's can get a real heavyweight, then move Nate and Matt down a weight. For next year... Angel Ortega Red shirt frosh or maybe Warren? Wap Kinser Young Perry Powless Everhart New Heavy So what happens with Coughlin? I don't know. I'm not really sure what kind of new crew they've coming in either.
  10. Not true Grecoref. I personally saw Coach BAM! get a take down shadow wrestling....unfortunately he was quickly reversed and then pinned. So sad. :'(
  11. It seems the IU coaches had some tough decisions in a couple of weight classes. I suppose it's hard to keep some one like Ortega on the bench, maybe harder for Hernandez to make 133lb, so Hernandez moves to 41 and then there is Kelly. I think Dingo called it, he's a kind of scraper and never really thought of in the same light as the other guys. Still, at times he showed his metal. Then you've got the whole thing with Coughlin & Kinser and to a lesser degree Powless & Kuhn. All in all though, I had a great time going to watch them wrestle this year. I wonder what's next for Hernandez and Kelly? Good luck to the Hoosiers at the NCAA's and to all the Indiana boys staking a claim for the title!
  12. Oh man....just when I thought we were becoming friends. :-[
  13. At Senior night, it was Parker, Samuels, Kelly, and Hernandez...hope that helps. Parker, Samuels and Kelly did not red shirt, Hernandez and Coughlin did. Coughlin is a redshirt Junior this year....like Angel.
  14. I'm starting to hear the fat lady sing on this argument....in Hoosierdaddy's favor! 2009 IU Big Ten Results 1 Big Ten Champion 6 NCAA seeds 69 total team points 9th place 2008 IU Big Ten Results 1 Big Ten Champion 8 NCAA seeds 80 total team points 8th place Time to give it up Disco and admit that this year's team just does not have the pedigree of last years team...nor some of the others before last year for that matter.
  15. Agreed on Powless and Young. True warriors and a good early start in the Big 10's for both. Go Hoosiers! I'll look at the 2007 stuff.
