Yeah! Maybe we could tell them to have wrestle backs too! Not making fun of you on that just saying they don't listen to anything else we tell them why would that stop now? IHSAA has almost completely ruined our tournament. I don't even want to mention what would ruin it totally, I don't want to give them any ideas!

Two Friday sessions sucks! Really takes away the electricity of the State Finals. Reminds me of State Finals in multi-class states that I have coached at including Ohio and Georgia.

Place should be packed with all fans for these kids in 1 session!

devildog47959 reacted to Coach Duncan in Saturday Tickets
I think this is where we have to remember what Mr. Faulkens mentioned on our Zoom call “for coaches and AD’s to tell parents to have patience when ordering tickets” 🙄 It’s 10:40 and we still don’t have #1 ticket. Hard to tell parents to have patience when they have a son or grandson wrestling tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

Amen! I didn't want to hijack this thread but I couldn't agree more!
So many negatives with splitting into 2 sessions on Friday & I don't see many positives at all other than finishing a little earlier than normal
Return back to 1 session Friday night & move the start time up an hour or 2 if needed
Splitting into 2 sessions will really impact the atmosphere for the wrestlers in the morning session. It won't be the same, smaller crowd, less overall excitement. Every wrestler competing deserves the traditional Friday night atmosphere!
Teaamates splitting up during parade of champions, not warming up together, just so many negatives
We had something very special in Indiana but sadly it's been a hot mess the past 2 years. I hope to see it returned to the great experience it was!

I would love to hear some other uncommon success stories.
Our 182 Tommy Hannon is a first-year high school wrestler. He hasn’t been on the mat since 7th grade. He is an all-state football player and All-American rugby player. He had a total of 32 high school practices under his belt and just punched his ticket to state today. He took a chance on wrestling as a senior and it paid off.
His story is one I will tell for the rest of my coaching career. You don’t need 10+ years of experience to be successful in this sport. If you aren’t afraid of hard work and are eager to learn you can make it happen. Anything is possible.
Tommy is Bishop Chatard’s first state qualifier since 2014.

devildog47959 reacted to brickfor6 in Al Smith Placers = State Qualifiers
Wrestling stat nerd post…..I was bored after the Super Bowl and thought….” I wonder what percent of state qualifiers placed at Al Smith?”
106- 3 of 8
113- 6 of 8
120- 6 of 8
126- 5 of 8
132- 4 of 8
138- 4 of 8
145- 4 of 8
152- 7 of 8
160- 4 of 8
170- 4 of 8 (Law is now 160)
182- 5 of 8
195- 2 of 8
220- 5 of 8
285- 3 of 8
62 of 112 Al Smith placers qualify for state. Just over 55%
There are a few going to state that did not place at Al Smith too.
7 of 16 qualifiers at 152 placed at Al Smith!
Happy State Week everyone!

Look's like we should petition for next year to be a normal Friday night again. This has been a mess. The Friday morning has been really inconvenient for some parents & fans to even make it there. Those kids deserve a hype and packed crowd too. Just my thoughts.

Not a fan of two sessions at all, especially when you have kids & teachers who cannot leave school to watch during the morning session. Two sessions also takes away from the parade of champions. I feel sorry for the teams who have multiple kids attending and cannot make the walk together with their teammates if they are in two separate sessions. Makes zero sense, let alone a long day for coaches who have kids in two sessions. If they are worried about one session going too late into the night, start it earlier and get back to our normal Friday night. I sure hope they don't have teams warm-up this year, followed by weigh-ins! It is about the kids who earned the trip, maximize it with memories. 🙄

Man this really stinks. The IHSAA really fumbled this one... 🙁
I understand their want to move away from GA seating & into reserved but this was poorly thought out...
Opportunities for improvement next year:
- There should be an option for an all session pass that can be purchased on Wednesday or when sales first start. Stinks for fans wanting to attend all sessions to have to buy tickets twice, pay ticket master service fees twice, etc.
- Allow for schools to buy blocks of seating in advance (50-100 Tix more if needed) so the school can sell them to their parents, fans, etc. So that programs can still have their "blocks" & sit together
Just my $0.02

He choose IU because he thought at the time the IU Coaching Staff (Angel, Isaac Jordan & Mike Dixon) would get him to where he needed to be at the next level. Obviously that didn’t work out the 3 years he was there . He needed change. He had to what’s best for him .
