  1. Sound didn't help much with the score. Announcers didn't have a great deal of knowledge when it came to scoring. It's pretty obvious from the video that there were teeth marks on Blacks forearm. Teeth marks don't necessarily mean an intentional bite but that's a judgement call by the official. I agree completely that Rump had no reason to intentionally bite him and that's why I thought it was a great no call. Can you imagine the thread on this board if Rump was DQ for a bite?! Class Wrestling post might have less pages. Lol
  2. 12-11 1st - 6-2 Rump Rump 3 TDs Black 2 Es 2nd - 8-4 Rump Rump 2 Es Black 1 TD 3rd - 12-11 Black Rump 1 TD, 1 E Black 2 Es, 2 TDs , 2 pt NF Great match. I thought all the calls by the ref were correct. He could have controlled the match a little better but all good calls. The best call was the non bite call. I've seen officials call that a Flagrant which would have DQ Rump. Great non call.
  3. Serious question... Don't most kids have a pretty intense practice for about 2 hours every day? 15 mins might be a little quick but I'm not sure it is putting kids at anymore risk of getting hurt. Maybe it does. And I would never want to put anything in front of safety but one of the biggest things people complain about is length of events. If the time limit was increased to 30-45 mins would the event have gone on much longer?
  4. Irick taking 3rd after drawing Davidson Friday night was another impressive run.
  5. Listen to the fans and you will know why Refs don't call stalling aggressively! LOL Honestly, my biggest beef is when a kid out wrestles his opponent for 5 mins and in the last min he goes into defense mode and then his opponent starts to initiate some action and all of a sudden the stall calls fly. That's what happens in this match. The kid that wrestled the better match did not win and that's a shame.
  6. First I think this statement is so true. If neither wrestler is doing much then one kid shouldn't be called. Pushing isn't offense. Second if we would go more towards college when it comes to out of bounds where if a wrestler goes out of bounds without a takedown attempt happening then there is a stall call. If you keep the kids in the middle of the mat it makes the matches a lot better.
  7. Brendan Campbell New Castle Brandon James Perry Both would be near or at the top of this list.
  8. I wish CJ had shook hands before celebrating. I have no problem with celebrating a state title let alone a 4x undefeated HS career but just wish he would have done it after the handshake and after his hand was raised. But he is still a kid and his emotions were high after the match so I can understand it. All that being said what a phenomenal wrestling match! It absolutely lived up to the hype with both wrestlers getting put to their back. Amazing! Hats off to both wrestlers. You are both champions and wrestled like it on Saturday.
  9. Most refs will not award an escape if the wrestler in control maintains both hands around the leg tight. If the hands come off or are just loosely holding on at any point then the ref will usually "hold" the escape until the situation ends in case a reversal happens. Even if the offensive wrestler regains control of the leg the escape is still usually given unless the offensive wrestler regains complete control. These are obviously tough situations as kids are getting better and better at scrambling. And I am not giving my opinion as to whether or not the escape should have been called but rather just offering some insight as to how these situations get called. Hope it helps a little.
  10. Track assigns as first available. Typically it assigns matches 3 deep so 106 and first matches of 113 should be set but then after that first come first serve.
  11. I remember him winning but don't remember the circumstances. Who did he lose to at Semi State and who did he beat at State?
  12. For those that weren't there IMO the crowd ruined this match more than the ref. Adults from both sides were pretty ridiculous yelling for stall calls. Regardless if the stall calls were correct or not the "adults" in the stands need to set a better example and root for their wrestler vs rooting against his opponent.
  13. No takedown and it's very close to being an illegal return to the mat as the kid in Red brings him straight back over the top. No lift but it was close.
  14. Honestly debating the classed thing is pointless. The IHSAA is never going to change unless all individual sports get together and want it. I'm guessing that other individual sports are just as divided as wrestling so I don't see a change regardless if the "pro classed" are right or the pro "one class" are right. But what can the wrestling community do to encourage more participation??? More triple duals on sat would be a great start so kids and families won't be in a gym all freakin day. Changing the singlet will help. Yes some kids will never get past the tight fitting uniform but it will help. Making duals more fun is a great way to promote the sport. I have seen a few duals where elementary dual, middle school dual and high school dual occur all at the same time on 3 mats. Great way to fill a gym! When I was growing up we had PE and wrestling was apart of the curriculum. I know a lot of school corps are eliminating formal PE programs but what if high schools offered to have elementary and/or middle schools to take a field trip to the high school during PE to have wrestling added back into the curriculum. This can expose the kids at a very early age to build interest in the sport.
  15. I agree completely. Long days don't do anything but kill the sport.
  16. Agreed! There will be no losers if this match up occurs. Win or Lose both of these wrestlers are champions that should be celebrated regardless of the outcome. And probably the biggest winners are the fans. Good luck to both of these young wrestlers over the next month and all hope this occurs under the lights!
  17. Grand Park has 2 facilities being built. One is for court sports and the other for field sports. I don't think they would rent the field sports building for a sport like wrestling and it is the much bigger of the 2. And I doubt the court sports field house would have the space or the seating. On top of that grand park is extremely expensive. I'm guessing the Indy convention center would probably be a more realistic option.
  18. There were obviously some problems but let the organizers look at solutions to the problems while keeping it at the Coliseum. If the event gets moved every year then there will always be problems because its a new facility. Having teams between mats, putting bleachers at the ends of both mats, using another section of the facility are all good solutions to multiple problems. Bathrooms and Concession stands will be a problem but if people know its a problem ahead of time then it will be much more tolerable. Lets give this at least a couple of years to see how they can improve it where its at before just up and moving again.
  19. No one called anyone idiots and the only comment about being uneducated referred to a parent thinking cauliflower ear was a good thing. And I am sorry but if you as a parent wants your high school wrestler to practice without a head gear so he deforms his ears then that is not only uneducated it is borderline child abuse. As far as your comment on Navy Seals and high profile college coaches you are talking about well below 1% of the population. And I'd be willing to bet that the uniform they wear, the service medals or national championships are much more a "badge of honor" for those fine men then their deformed ears. No one is bashing these individuals for having cauliflower ear they are discussing why it's important to wear head gear and the potential long term effects.
  20. I thought I remember that Blake could have gone 170 his sophomore year but that would have pushed Stewart out of the lineup. Maybe Blake is doing this to make Cathedral's lineup stronger.
  21. I have a small amount of cauliflower ear. I love it. It reminds me of the hard work, dedication, sacrifice and everything else we do for wrestling and I wore my head gear in practice (well most of the time). That being said, no one can visibly tell that I have it and I could care less if I gett recognition for having it. Its not for other people.. its my own reminder. I would not love it if my ear was disfigured. I don't consider nasty ears as a badge of honor and most wrestlers will grow up to be professionals and I can tell you that the corporate world does not understand the concept of wrestling let alone some job candidate's disfigured ear. Cauliflower ears aside... why in the world don't most coaches at least make wrestlers wear head gear in practice for live wrestling? You have to wear it in a match so why would you not want to wear it in practice. Its getting to the point where I am shocked if I see a live match in which neither wrestler's head gear DOESNT come off. I'm guessing this is because kids don't wear it in practice, aren't use to wearing it and don't have it fitted properly after a few minutes of sweating during the match. I remember our coach would not let us wear multiple sweatshirts and sweatpants during practice because you don't wear those things during matches. If we needed to cut weight then that was before or after practice conditioning. To me its like asking a basketball team to practice on 9 ft goals but play on 10 ft goals. Practice the way you are going to play.
  22. If you go to the bench to ask a question about a rule there should be no penalty. If you go to the bench and question the refs judgement there should be a misconduct warning (if this happens 3 times it is a point). If you go to the bench and are unsportsmanlike then there should be a penalty. It's really all in how you go to the bench and how often. If a coach goes to the bench every call it's disrupting the match. Now maybe the refs you have are unfairly penalizing coaches or maybe the coaches need to be penalized for what they are doing.
  23. "Hey AOBERLIN, I see Rhoades got a good win @ 138. Why didn't he face Red @ 132??????" Red did not make weight
  24. Any specifics on the Rypel final?
