  1. It's over and done with, but I think the stall call at 135 to send it to ot was terrible. Fuqua had two options there, base out and stay strong or try to roll through. Good coaches would never teach their guys to roll through just about anything; it's not a high percentage move. He did what any wrestler would do with ten seconds left, up by one, and your opponent cranking a banana split. Plus, fuqua was the only one with a takedown in the match and took just as many as md's guy. But like I said it's over and done with. Props to mater dei. They wrestled great and deserved the win. I was rooting for them to take the title. Also congrats to pm. It's nice to see them get their title. They certainly deserved one.
  2. I think it should be an unheralded senior who never made varsity yet stuck with the program. Those are some real heroes if you ask me.
  3. I don't think there will be this many falls on either side. Also, I noticed Vibbert wrestled 112 at Team Regionals. Assuming he weighed in at 112, could he wrestle 103 at Team State?
  4. No offense to Indian Creek, but this is a perfect example of why the IHSAA should not eliminate the Team State Tournament.
  5. It won't work for Firefox. Use internet explorer.
  6. I stand corrected. For some reason I thought I had seen it, but I must have just been wrong. Hope I didn't offend you. Also, I agree losing team state is horrible.
  7. Really? That surprises me. I always thought Mater Dei's singlets were classic. I think I can remember a few Mater Dei wrestlers over the years who did not wear the leggings, although I could be wrong. Oh well, we will still be seeing good wrestling either way, which after all is the most important thing.
  8. I don't know who will win, but I do know this: you're going to see two classic singlets on that mat. I don't know if I've ever seen either team wear a different singlet in my life, and I've been watching Indiana high school wrestling for a long time.
  9. I don't think you can pick a favorite between these three teams. I really think it's a toss up. This should be one of the most exciting team states ever. Too bad they're saying it's the last.
  10. The Bears beat the Eagles, Packers and Jets this season, all playoff teams.
  11. Whatever dude. You obviously have a bone to pick for some reason. Everyone knows crown point has had a good wrestling program for a long time. Also, you're giving bill hawkins way too much credit. Known him for a real long time and truly love the guy, so I hesitate to say that because I don't want it to sound like I'm taking anythikng away from him. He's great, but everone who knows what they're talking about knows its a total program with the head coach at the top.
  12. I don't want to get into a pi**ing match on here, but I have to defend my boys. You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. I had a whole bunch of facts written to refute you, but it's not worth it. You obviously are not a rational person, because to compare CP to Griffith is insane.
  13. Anyone going to be giving updates throughout the match? Also, Papa's Deli . . . HAHA!
  14. Why is this such a big secret? Not like people aren't going to find out eventually.
  15. when I made weight the first time as a freshman . . . haha!
  16. Heck yeah it does! I did my fair share of hard wrestling and I always wore a headgear and never had any problems. I am sure people have gotten cauliflower ear while wearing a headgear, but the point is that wearing a headgear significantly reduces the chances of it happening. Like I said before, I think coaches should make their wrestlers wear their headgear at all times during practice, even during drills. I know we had to, and I am glad we did. Anyone know if the IHSAA requires it? Or is it left to the individual schools and coaches?
  17. I agree there were some dumb questions but I am just happy to see it televised. Actually, overall it was a good broadcast if you ask me. Some of the dumb questions don't even compare to the idiotic things you'll hear from some of the big time announcers.
  18. This is just a guess, but wouldn't Barry Davis have to agree to the interview prior to it happening? Or did they just ambush him while he couldn't say no? I think I have seen Barry Davis do in-match interviews before on the Big Ten Network, so maybe he is just amenable to doing them.
  19. I agree. I personally know of many people who have commented on how nasty cauliflower ear is. I cannot help but think that it deters some people from the sport. Plus, I know for a fact that the ladies do not like it, for whatever that's worth. Like I said before, wrestlers should do everything they can to try to avoid it, which basically means wear a headgear every time you step on the mat. And coaches should never allow their wrestlers to practice without headgear. I realize that in some cases it is just unavoidable, but if everyone wore headgear all the time I guarantee you would see less of it. The "badge of honor" thing is just dumb. It's like hockey players who think of having missing teeth as a badge of honor.
  20. Ridiculous. It's gross. Wrestlers should make every effort to avoid it.
  21. You need to tell this story to the people who say we should cut high school athletics to save money or that we should impose fees.
  22. You guys need to look at this in terms of what is best for the kids, not what is best for fans who like to watch the state tournament. I honestly don't know where I fall, but I just feel like some of the anti-class wrestling advocates come from a perspective of what they like to see as a fan, whereas some of the pro-class wrestling advocates seem to be coming from a perspective of what they feel is the best for the kids. Like I said, I truly am not taking a stance on this, but if I did have one it would be because I took the time to really think and research which format is the best for the kids, not which format I, as a fan, most enjoy watching in January and February. This is high school sports and whatever is best for the kids should be done.
  23. I agree with CP being the favorite and that in the region any team can win it. Look at this year: Everyone was saying Merrillville hands down (some were even saying Merrillville could compete with Mishawaka) but CP won it. A lot can happen between now and next season. I am curious about what Portage and Merrillville have coming back and up through the ranks. Anyone affiliated with either of those schools care to give a quick rundown?
  24. Congrats to Dallas Schurg of Crown Point for winning the award for outstanding wrestler of the match! Nice way to end an excellent high school wrestling career.
