teammills, we were actually a little better than you reported, we had 2-2nds and 2-6ths.
    For Brownsburg little guys we had: 1st - 5, 2nd -1, 3rd -1, 4th -1, 5th -1, 8th - 1
Overall, 50+ kids from brownsburg schools competing at ISWA state between the two weekends

Swallow his pride? He is ranked number 1 in the country. What more does he have to do? He didn't look huge to me. He looked like a 126lber. He wrestled 106 as a freshman. Nick Lee 126. No disrespect I believe Lee is bigger. James beat CJ in the offseason. CJ still won state. It's not CJ's job to wrestle Nick Lee. It's CJ's job to win state for New Pal and himself. All these mythical match ups mean nothing. All that he should make it happen stuff sounds to me like you want him to lose. That's terrible if you just want a kid to lose and he is not presently facing your kid, or a your kids teammate or club member. That's the unwritten rule or you sir have sour grapes. Nick Lee is great, matter of fact I had him against Micic. So nothing against him; who ever says they know for certain Lee would win are either clairvoyant or delusional.

I don't fault either one.  They are running their teams.  Not entertaining a wrestling board.

Exactly. It didn't happen because it shouldn't have happened.

So, then because New Pal was as a team outmatched, Red was the one who was suppose to entertain us?

Many times it is the action that is being booed, not the wreslter.. I do think there is a difference...

I remember the blood time. I think it was Lytle's semifinal opponent, Chad Blacketer (from Pendleton), had blood all over his singlet from Lytle's wound.

How tough are wrestlers?! If most high school kids sustained these types of injuries (Lytle, Harvey, Elijah Dunn, Conner James) they would be out for a month...wrestlers just wrap it up and immediately get back after it.

Nick Lee was trying to win a team state title.  I'm sure he and his coaches cared more about the team than Nick cutting an extra weight class for one match.  And who is to say he could have made the cut?  I don't think Nick would avoid this opportunity, just as I don't think Chad wanted a blemish on his record for a meaningless dual meet that had already been decided.  If this match is to ever happen it will mostly likely be in the off season.

145 no question.  The match had lots of great action by both wrestlers.  I thought both really looked to score.  In the 120 match I thought one wrestler was pushing the action the entire match while the other was mainly blocking and being defensive.  The semis at 182 and 138 were very exciting as well.  Hats off to Mason Parris and Joe Lee for really bringing it as freshman.

    As always, a great weekend.

    Halloween!
He could stall for 5 minutes and not get called and go on to win a state title by a point or in OT and feel like he actually deserve it.  I would boo that kid.  I am also booing this thread. Booo thread, Booooo.

Here's another issue I don't think has been touched on or thought thru...

If the ISWA goal is to grow these styles (which in turns will lead to more club revenue a win/win), what level and below i.e schoolboy, novice, cadet is the focus group? Example, I assume the high school wrestler class (Cadet, Jr) will not be "growing" in numbers. If they aren't wrestling now, they more than likely won't be. So mandating that group to attend 2 more isn't growing the sport, but would grow revenue as that is a captive clientele. They're invested/committed at this point so they will attend if at all possible. So that gets us to the schoolboy and below levels. This is a good group/pool/age to to find growth in due to numbers, interests etc. So, say we agree on that (for the sake of this argument). For the most part then, we are looking at young kids and can anyone else think of another sport played in the Spring that is quite popular? I can. Baseball! I would guess most of those leagues start in mid-late April at the latest. So at a time when we're on this site pumping Urban Meyer for promoting kids to not concentrate on just one sport, the ISWA is basically telling a kid and family in the age group they are hoping to grow from, that they MUST attend 2 more events  to qualify for a state tourney. Now that family might be getting the wrestling bug, and really want to go to the state event, but if they have to take the kid away from his little league team for 2 more weekends (beside state), plus the added travel/costs of doing so as compared to driving to a local park as a family...I'm guessing they choose baseball which doesn't promote growth in wrestling. I get their are travel teams etc, but if they are already on baseball travel teams at that age, I don't think they're going to the 2 mandated ISWA events anyway!

I'm just really confused. If we want TEAM IN to dominate the styles, mandating attendance will work because only the committed will be there and the elite will get better...if we want to grow the sport and the styles (and in turn revenue), mandating attendance will backfire in my opinion because the  time/monetary/sport choice decision is not one that will be won by wrestling for those families/kids just tipping their toes in the wrestling water, which is the age group where growth can come from.

I'm with AJ. The vision/goal must be decided. Is it to increase FS/GK ability, promote growth of the overall sport, or just increase club revenues. I think if we're truthful on that answer, the path becomes clearer.

Disclaimer: I support the ISWA. I hope I can figure out a way to qualify for FS/GK state.

I think you have missed my point.  I have no question you made the right decision, it is the fact that it took your group 60 minutes to figure it out that is perplexing.  If I had driven from Evansville to Indy and had to sit for an hour while people are discussing the fungus among us, i would probably be concussed from banging my palm to my forehead.  It seems clear that there are some clear communication issues from the rank and file and no one is addressing those issues.

You're not mistaken. Those are all folkstyle.

However, correct me if I'm mistaken, but don't kids "qualify" for folkstyle state without having to wrestle a qualifier? So I miss the point.

Forcing kids to wrestle more club level events isn't going to grow the sport, especially in the Spring and especially with added travel and costs. It might make IN better in those styles but I'd argue that level kid is getting better in a room as stated previously in the thread as compared to traveling and facing 3 (if not less) other kids just there to "qualify" for state.

If I read all this correctly, it's growth of the styles and not improvement of national teams that ISWA is looking for? I'm just not sure this change will do that.
