Not to beat a dead horse: Andy your success has been disseminated across the area. You've already seen results, just not for your team yet. You've only been open for less than 2 years. The wins will come. The studs are being formed now they are just in 4th grade. Some kids will move in when they find out about the edifice you coach at.  Homestead is a fantastic school.  My all time favorite wrestler State Champion Mark Bruner went there.  My buddies the twins Thom and Tim Reed wrestled there.  You'll be back I'd gather this upcoming year.  Especially if you call me.  Ask around.

I prefer a Multi- Class system. I spend half my time in Iowa and 3 classes doesn’t seem to hurt them. I was making suggestions for the here and now because A multi-class system isn’t a reality at this time. So I don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Focus only on what you can control and contribute.

I have thought long and hard on this and hurts me dearly to admit it because I want to get under those lights sooner or later. But.... it's time we class Indiana High School wrestling. The skill level of wrestling has only increased and is only increasing across the board in Indiana.  We aren't being fair to our kids to say we don't want to class it because we enjoy the show so much. It's like we are enjoying watching a real live Hunger Game. As coaches and fans there is no difference between us not wanting to change to class wrestling than the IHSAA not giving us wrestlebacks. We know the IHSAA isn't going to do that. Then what should we do in order level the playing field a little more so our kids get more opportunities and we try to grow the sport at every school?

Bring on the hate.... but the kids need to come first.

Oh... and quit wearing jeans when you coach at the high school level.

For any that read the comments before they were deleted. I would like to apologize. It seems that I took The Generals DM out of context and let anger get the best of me. Carry on with the freestyle/greco convo.

Anyway, where do you start learning about FS & GR? How do you take what you learn & apply it to Folk? How do you get those new to Folk interested in FS & GR?

I'm not mad, just disappointed on the bickering above as it relates to NE Indiana. We need all hands on deck working together so THE KIDS in OUR AREA get back on top & control the podiums. I have no side in that fight, but it seems like that's why OUR AREA hasn't had the success like others. Too many fighting against each other instead of iron sharpening iron & helping each other improve. Seems like The County & Evansville have learned to come together & dominate along with Crown Point.

Ditch your head on the outside singles and high crotches. Focus on head up inside singles and finishing off the mat. Defensively start with stepping around the corner and crotch lifts. Then start with good old gut wrenches and defending them. Tell them stand ups can be bad news. Let them know to have some fun.

Oh and drill back arch and turns for a while.

For the love of wrestling can Verizon get another tower in that area? Or really good public Wifi? Other than that it was a well oiled machine.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, it was pretty cool and that's a good group of guys in that picture. All very supportive of each other and wrestling movement!

Here is a story that I felt was worth sharing with the community that involved Bryce, I don't generally like sharing stuff involving my kids, but felt he deserved credit for this.
My middle son (8 years old) had lost in the state semi-finals, and was not handling it very well. We were in the cafeteria wrestling area, and he was having a "freak-out" (he needs to work on this) in the area behind the mats. I was trying to talk to him to calm down, but he was not registering what dad/coach was saying.
While this was going on a high school kid was passing through and asked me if he could talk to him.  The high schooler sat down with my son, and told him about how he had never placed at ISWA until this weekend, and he had won it today. He discussed how wrestling isn't just about wins and losses, but about progress.  This discussion caused my son to calm down, stop crying, and go on to wrestle the rest of his matches and place third. As he left I asked the high school kid his name, he said Bryce Denton.  I told him I had heard of him lol.
Anyhow I was really impressed with the maturity and kindness that Bryce showed this weekend. I had never met him. As a dad I was worrying what people thought of me/my son with the way he was acting, and Bryce was awesome in helping to calm him down and put things in perspective.  Also in my opinion it took a lot of bravery to ask a dad that you had never met to talk with his son in a situation like that.  Just wanted to share this and publicly say thanks to Bryce.  I was blown away with how impressive he was in this situation.

I see your point. And circumstances were very different at the time and things have improved at Wabash drastically. But under the circumstances we had to deal with then we chose the best option for my son. And what we have sacrificed as a family has not been easy. We didn't just jump local  school systems. I'm all for growing the sport but an opportunity presented itself and we took it. Both of my son's give back still to there local program.

Well the goal should be that your wrestler is a leader the program needs to start the fire again. Every program needs a spark every now and then. When those sparks go to other schools it doesn't help grow the sport in my opinion. But... every circumstance is different.
