Yes, again my firm stance in on multiple lineups, not adding up to 2 extra wrestlers. The 2 extra rule seems intriguing, but is not one I have fully formed an opinion on yet.

I honestly don't have a full opinion on this either. I would need to play it out a little. I do think if it was done then you have to submit your lineup for the 14 wrestlers that can score in sectionals for you before sectionals and that only 1 per weight class could score. Meaning if you don't have a 106 you FF that and you don't get points for having 2 x 138 pounders. Otherwise I think coaches would FF some weight classes in order for your better backup wrestle for points. Which may seem fair but I would disagree. I think that small 100 pound 106 needs that shot and experience.

But I also think it is a sign of a mature program to have wrestlers be willing to be backups until their Junior or Senior year when they can finally make the line up and not quit before them. It shows the program has some culture and pride. Like any other sport if you aren't good enough on your team to make the line up then unfortunately you are JV. That doesn't mean they can't still get all the great life lessons wrestling has for them. We had a few backups last year I think could have made it to semi-state at least. We had a JV wrestler ranked in Semi-State just because we got him enough varsity looks and he beat some quality kids. All the more reason to make your JV schedule tougher. We also know that keep a kid healthy all year is about impossible so having good kids ready to step in at anytime is big.

  2. I am taking a longshot here but with the recent posts of classic matches. Would anyone have the video of the 1994 semi-finals matches, 119 to be exact. It was back in the VHS days and my tape ran out after about a minute or so into to the match and I have never gotten to watch that match. And I think before this old man dies I wouldn't mind actually seeing it instead of reliving it in my head. Any help would be truly appreciated.

A little salty there NE Indiana dude?

Would recommend doing a bit of research before making accusations such as yours - I've occasionally heard that sarcasm being defined as protest of the weak...

Actually I do get a little salty when someone makes unnecessary comments about an area they don't have a clue about especially if they aren't around here trying to help. I don't need to do research, I live it every single day. Trust me on this, I know how it all works in the background with youth wrestlers and how schools are chosen. I hear things first hand and I wasn't being totally sarcastic. I think sooner or later things like that will have to happen in our area if we expect to compete at all on the team level.

But... as Galagore said what truly is the goal of this sport? If those second stringers are that good then have them and their parents go to a smaller school and help build the culture there and get even more kids involved in the sport. If you are talking wrestlebacks and spreading out the talent pool then you need to do the research on what the wrestling community has been trying to do for decades. The bottom line is the IHSAA cares about 1 State Champion and making sure the population of wrestlers are spread out. They don't try to shift powerhouses to appease the greats and I don't disagree with that.

If it is so difficult there and easy here please feel free to let anyone know we would welcome everyone that would like to move to Northeast Indiana for the easy path but we would also appreciate help with coaching and building the area.

Two bad a program can't enter an additional roster and send them through a different semi state... No longer have a dog in the fight (pun intended), but I bet the 2's from Brownsburg would score high enough to probably win the FWSS as a team...

We are well aware that we have work to do and TBH we need to get on the bandwagon and start recruiting and getting all the good kids to the same school to start creating powerhouses. But as of right now we aren’t doing that. No matter if you think this statement is true or not there is much more that goes into it all and personally I find it rude. But hey it’s the internet say what you want. Don’t worry though we always know who makes what statements.

Also it is “too bad” and not “two bad”.

Mendez match was interesting, two shot clock points and 5 step outs. Mendez was the closest to getting a true score. The Iranian's underhooks and collar ties stymied Jesse most of the match.

Yeah. I felt there was bunch of finger grabbing that wasn’t being caught. That dude had some great defense for sure. Mendez didn’t back off that second period. Woke me up on the lunch break.

  6. I got over forcing a kid to go down a good decade ago, “because they have to learn to get out.”Yes they have to learn to get out and for the most part a practice room is the place to do it. There are some kids that are super tough on top. Especially at National Duals and if you choose down and you aren’t good at getting out you are just asking to get turned. Plus when coaching a team that you aren’t familiar with all the kids strengths and weaknesses asking the kid or their parent what they prefer really helps build the relationship and gives the wrestler confidence he may need to win the match.

The NBA all star host committee just announced that the Saturday events of all star weekend will be held at Lucas oil stadium, is there any chance the IHSAA moves the finals back to gainbridge fieldhouse?

Heres a link to the article.

I think the general consensus is that even if there was a place to hold it at in Indy that weekend the places to stay would be way too expensive. I would also think that places to eat or do anything would also be overrun.

Once again our experiences in life are different.  Now get those guys ready for Fargo so I can brag about our area.

Trust me that is one of our goals in the end to start getting more kids to Fargo. Once these young ones are old enough that is what we are shooting for. We want to go and compete on that stage. We did see some accidental chest locks and ankle laces this weekend from our wrestlers. :) If a wrestler we coach on the regular asks us to go help coach them at Fargo we are there.

  9. The weather was awful this weekend! But the wrestling was great and from what I saw the reffing was spot on. I love the fact the windows for wrestling are always accurate and sometimes start early. Our homegrown elementary team qualified for day 3 and wrestled awesome. We bonded even more and got multiple compliments on how our kids supported each other. I love having one event a year our academy comes together and hangs out. There were a ton of Indiana coaches and wrestlers there. Keep up the good work everyone!
