Ok the seeding committee has listened to the requests and we will use the next rankings to seed the IHSWCA Team State Duals. We are still discussing the other options mentioned here and with using the next ranknings that should incorporate more of this seasons data into the seeds whether or not we seed 4 or 8.
Thanks
I now officially believe tskin stands for thick skin. I am impressed with your ability to handle comments in a constructive manner. I am glad you are in the position you are in.

Nope but you can meet with me in the Loo tonight, say around 5:45pm?
I always run late. Probably around 6:30.

Watch our Google Hangout from yesterday and you will find out where he is.
Aren't you the same one fighting with the IHSWCA about needing to attend their meetings to get info? I am not going to join your little online boy club to get the info I need. Is it okay if I just text you?

Here are the forfeit totals at sectional for the past three years
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0At9kk8BWi5ZUdFVpd09mUU12S2ozTW1JSmRxYUMxa2c&usp=sharing
I am curious to see if the bigger weights will keep trending downward in terms of forfeits. I would still say we need 3-5 years worth of data for it to be relevant.
I think if we go by percentage of forfeits we should get rid of 106 and 113 and add some more up top. This will do nothing but help our sport and who cares about the little guys anyways.

It sucks.

Connell of Muncie Central beat Logan Williams 6-1 today... Williams was losing to Hemmelgarn in a closely contested match 6-7 earlier this week before getting pinned
Logan Williams is from Dekalb and he did not wrestle today and has not wrestled Muncie Central. Unless you are talking about someone else but I don't see 2 wrestlers with that name in the FW semi state rankings.
-
I see no problem at all with a coach deciding to not wrestle a kid if it is going to do nothing for the team or the kid. If you have a kid that is pretty much on the edge of hating wrestling because he is getting no success why should you throw him to the lions? It doesn't do the kid or our sport any good. The kid will probably quit at the end of the season and have a bad attitude about wrestling. As a matter of fact I think more coaches should do this.

Can you make it after 9:30? Boys should be sleeping by then.

But like I said earlier please feel free to come share these ideas or volunteer to spear head a idea at our next IHSWCA meeting this Sunday. Our orginazation is built on coaches willing to donate their time and improve the sport. Don't be a random name on a message board come show your face at our next meeting and share your ideas.
If this is pointed to me in any way. Just know that I appreciate what you and the other coaches do and I use to attend the meetings before a job change and kids. Now it is all I can do to make it to the meets and a few practices. When things change I plan to starting going back. For now I enjoy discussing these things on the board with people that actually make the decisions. I don't pretend to have all the answers and many times there are things that I don't even think of. (IE ref shortage) Which is why discussions are good. So I am not some random guy I would post my picture but I will save you from that.

Something else to think about....if you move all the conference tournaments to one weekend, where are you going to find enough referees? Many of us work 2 seperate conferences, two weeks and one before sectionals. Moving everything to one weekend creates a major shortage.
Fair enough. You might end up with a bearded Lopshire at your conference. And no one wants that.

Is everyone also supposed to "suck it up" and end up one tournament short on their scheduling? Once the season begins, Athletic Directors have already signed contracts for tournaments, so unless they are willing to break a contract (mine is not) then everyone has to leave 2 weigh-in points available in the hopes they get invited later in the season. It is a scheduling nightmare unless the teams are selected long before the season begins.
In Indiana, we are used to a post season where every team is included. Many states don't do that, even for team sports. The selection process used for the IHSWCA Team State is very in depth and considers many factors. It is fair. In fact, we now get more of the top teams there then we ever used to with the IHSAA's version because it was solely based on geography. 2 or 3 great teams close to each other couldn't all make it then but now they all can be invited.
So are you saying that you have every single weekend booked during your season and it can never change? I agree it will be a scheduling nightmare and could not be done for a few years but I don't think IHSAA is going to budge on the post season or re-institute something they already squashed. I honestly just disagree that you are going to get the best teams off of last years results and that they are going to be preforming up to what they could be at the end of the season. But hey we don't get the best 16 kids at state every year might as well keep the status quo.
-
Only way we could move this to the end of the season would be if every school in state agreed to keep weekend before Sectional open. As the IHSAA has already informed us (IHSWCA) that this event can't be done after the individual State Finals.
I know the HHC tourney is two weekends before the sectionals but alot of conference tourney's are on that weekend before Sectionals. It would take a big compromise by all the schools in the state to agree to something like this.
That is why the IHSWCA picked the dates they have for the first two years as it works out better for the majority of programs in state to have event around Holiday.
I remember that discussion from last year. Schools need to suck it up and have their conference the weekend before sectionals. Like I stated last year this is great for a few reasons.
1. Gives a full season of results to insure we are inviting the best teams.
2. Gives teams the ability to make sure they are peaking at the right time.
3. For those teams that are invited it gives the wrestlers a chance to match up with some of the wrestlers they may not meet until Banker's Life.
4. For those teams that are not invited it gives them a chance to go watch some great wrestling, have a weekend off, or get one last meat grinder of a practice.
This is coming from a person who's conference is already that weekend so I am biased. I would love to go watch this a weekend before conference.

This tournament is a joke! Wish they still had IHSAA team state!
I think it makes for an awesome day of wrestling. And I think they are doing the best the can with the hand dealt to them.
I believe it would be perfect if it could be done at the end of the season off of the final rankings. Predicting teams from last years results is about impossible. Yes you can see who they lose due to graduation but you can't predict who will show up and what stud JV kids that a team may have. I know that it is a scheduling nightmare but it be great to see it done.
We are hard pressed to get much done through the IHSAA so we really need to support IHSWCA as much as possible.

After Maple's loss yesterday, he has now lost three times this year all to different opponents, to Kindig of Oklahoma State and Tsirtsis continuing to climb the rankings you have to think Tsirtsis is capable of winning a title this year.
Has an Indiana wrestler ever won an NCAA title as a Freshman?
I will go out on a limb and say no. I think Jason can do it for sure.

No Bellmont? Also I think East Noble is solid but they are going to have their work cut out for them against Carroll.

It was a nice suit also. I thought he did a nice job Hobart got a nice catch
Yeah but I really hate purple. I feel for him.

So sorry. So 4 fused vertebrae? Also do you happen to know the exact vertebrae? Is it possible to tell me the exact throw that caused it. Belly to belly? You can PM me if needed.

This is the update i heard from our head coach. He advised homesteads AD called our AD and said that Nik had 4 broken vertabry in his neck and they replaced them all. Its sounds like he is getting feeling back in arms and lower half. Every one keep this young man in your prayers because he has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Do you mean that they replaced a disc? Or multiple discs? Does anyone exact information? Just a concerned coach. Praying for the athlete and his family.

Off topic. But I got the chance to stand near Cosgrove this weekend while he coached. I have to say he does a good job with his kids and has the loudest clap I have ever heard. I would guess it is a great way to keep your voice over a long weekend.

Rankings are a bunch of bull hockey and mean nothing. All that matters is who can make it to the big show and preform
He said bull hockey. That is awesome. You better watch it, language like that will get you banned.

I am excited to see what will happen, when you combine the coaching prowess of Y2KJC007, Brennan "Cosmo" Cosgrove and Culver Community's "Sweeeeet" Lou Posa under one roof? It boggles my mind.
I should be there if the wife gives me permission.

Do everyone a favor and skip a couple McDonalds Big Mac meals and buy the magazine.
A couple? Back in my day you could buy 4 for that amount. What is the world coming to.

I understand the skepticism as I said I've heard both sides of this argument for years and read allot of documentation on both sides. The max heart rate does not change argument assumes that max is determined by either age or genetic disposition or both given that the work being done is equal. The problem with that is if that were true there wouldn't be people that achieve much higher max rates than others the same age doing the same training. It's not accurate unless you have test subjects that are at an elite fitness level to begin with. I've had several test subject two of which I use today. Without getting to deep into the data, both do the same training over an 8 week time frame with 1 day per week dedicated to "failure training" to establish the max heart rate and increase it. Both started the 8 wks in very good shape. Both lowered their resting heart rate and raised their max heart rate 15-20 bpm. This trend has been very consistent. I was once told by an MD that the more fit a person is the lower their max is. I know he's an MD, but I've never seen that to be true. I have a 15 yr old right now that has gone from 180 to over 200 bpm.
Fair enough. I will agree that there are 2 sides to the argument. I do believe almost every 15 year old should have a max of 200 bpm. Otherwise what is the point of being young. By the way a 2:50 marathon time is no joke. Nice work.
-
I am just not finding anything on being able to increase your max heart rate on the internets. I can see you being able to push your body harder and the person actually hitting their max heart rate and not some other plateau.

Quote from article.
"Maximum heart rate is not a trainable attribute. This means as you become more or less fit -- your maximum heart rate does not change."

He said mythical. The best thing about wrestling is the fact that it truly is not about awards and recognition. It is about the self satisfaction you get when your hard work pays off. And if you can't see that facing the best "teams" in the state and coming out on top isn't something to be proud of I am not sure we are talking about the same sport.
If we wanted recognition for everything we would "play" a different sport.
