  1. Sorry I didn’t realize I picked all Homestead wrestlers.
  2. Yeah he is tough and a class act.
  3. Are you talking about Walter Drews?
  4. I never make predictions but I will this year! 106 - Julianna Ocampo - 1st 113 - Michael Oberlin - 1st 120 - Jackson Rising - 1st 126 - Kaeden Benedict - 1st 132 - Ethan Khanhphane - 1st 138 - Jordan Mangan - 1st 144 - Thomas Sidel - 1st 150 - Ben Hartzell - 1st 157 - Jake Heisler - 1st 165 - Carson Godinez - 1st 175 - Jake Thrash - 1st 190 - Ryan Schoff - 1st 215 - Caleb Evans - 1st HWT - Ethan Dodson - 1st New Haven Sectional Rules!
  5. Because hypothetically they would need to figure out who the 7th seed would have been and that is not done in the seeding meeting. So we would need to seed the 7th in someway and they are the alternate. Which I think should be easy enough.
  6. I will volunteer to host it at Homestead if the dates are open here. Since it is a Sunday that should work. Our construction will be close to being fully completed next year and our facilities will work great.
  7. Here is a list of teams I am thoroughly impressed with this year and their performance and for the most part year and year out. There are others but off-hand these are the ones I know their coaches and what they have done to build their programs and the effort they have put in. In no way am I taking from the other teams. But what I am saying is these teams and coaches deserve huge kudos and not just talking about the depth of blah blah blah. And how they would own 1A. That's pure insulting and frankly shows some real ignorance. Adams Central - 370 enrollment Rochester - 505 enrollment Bellmont - 641 enrollment Garrett - 604 enrollment Columbus East - 1534 enrollment Jay County - 1003 enrollment I know Columbus East is a little bigger but man I see them everywhere competing as a team. One year their wrestler might not be much and the next year you have a problem on your hands. Huge hats off to Coach Cooper.
  8. The same last names coming through that program for a couple of decades or longer. And I don't think I need to define homegrown. Most people understand what it takes to compete at a very high level like some of these programs. What I am saying is some of these other programs are doing great things also with fewer resources.
  9. I think we need to recognize teams like Adams Central that are homegrown, small, and compete at a high level with multi-sport athletes. But maybe that is just me.
  10. Ha! Now you know how the rest of us feel with the CP and Bburg talk all the time. Most of us don't care how deep and great they are. We just want to hear about wrestling across the State. Just really hope neither team puts a 1A team together that wins 1A State.
  11. All seeding meetings are done on Wednesday. Expect them late Wednesday or early Thursday sometime.
  12. Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. It's not always about the points you get, it's about the points you don't give up.
  13. If you know me you know I don't look to stir things up for fun unless you are part of one of my text groups. I am telling you I watch a ton of wrestling and it is getting worse.
  14. Don't take any offense Kyle. Anytime you post something on here you will get positive and negative feedback. Scholar and I agree on many things. Not on this which is okay. In my opinion, something needs to change. It's getting out of hand. Maybe the coaches can wrestle to decide what happens. For every 2 years over 40, we get spotted a point. First one to 4 wins.
  15. I would agree with that. I have a wrestler that usually needs the can in the first 30 seconds of his first match of the day. Nothing he can really do about it.
  16. Yes. For example, if a potentially dangerous call is made while something is being tweaked and the wrestler needs time to recover then no choice of position is given. But if the wrestler calls for the time-out without any clear issue being presented then the choice goes to the opponent. The question then comes in what if the wrestler is throwing up or thinking they are going to throw up?
  17. Yep. This is the stuff I am seeing frequently.
  18. Sorry I considered giving the opponent choice a penalty. I wasn’t necessarily thinking points. I was thinking an automatic stall or the opponent choice.
  19. I have coached a long time and I feel I am starting to see more and more wrestlers call their own injury time. Many times it is because they are gassed and need a break. Something needs to change with this. One of the goals of the sport is to break your opponent. I find anymore as soon as you break your opponent their knee or shoulder magically hurts. Something needs to change. Coaches need to also step up and not let their athlete pull this stuff. It’s hurts the sport. I know college lets the other wrestler have choice after this happens.
  20. Sounds right. The hard work learned from wrestling is what makes many wrestlers even capable of graduating college. I know it did for me. So in a way the "scholarly"ship has already happened and is sailing. Nothing wrong with a solid community college or trades school either to keep those silly student loans from haunting you forever.
  21. 538 students and it is public. I have stayed at their non-wireless having campuses more times than I would like to admit.
  22. Not sure that is a good argument. The good wrestlers may stay in the small program because those teams would have more success and that wrestler is still going to get his State title. It would just be up to those smaller schools to get into legit tournaments throughout the season. I think St. Paris Graham enjoys where they sit and how they handle it. They have 0 issues getting wrestlers all over the nation to wrestle for them in high school. Part of it is they have won State: 1982, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022. Personally, I would like to see 3 divisions. Small schools, big schools, and recruiting schools. That would be suffice for me.
