  1. .....The Alafogianis family would love to thank all that came out to Stakcs Pancake House last weekend for the NC Semi-State. We really appreciate your patronage. Secondly, I wish all of the New Castle wrestlers the best of luck (Campbell, Mullins, Decker & Mofield)!!!! Lastly, I would love to see Coach Peck get his second if not 3rd or 4th or 5th state champion!!!!! Good luck to all this weekend, enjoy the ride
  2. Like my STATS professor says...... L= P (o) or Luck= Preparation "times" (opportunities) Thus this weekend we will have 14 "LUCKY" state champs all because of the preparation they have put it in order to maximize their opportunities in the BIG SHOW. Therefore, state champs don't happen by chance, but they put "LUCK" in their favors ( i.e. hard work and sweat, blood, tears, etc. ;-)
  3. here ya go BOOT...http://newcastlewrestling.com/statefinalist.htm It looks like since 1976 that NC has had someone @ State except for the years of : 81,87,89,04,08
  4. montrail Johnson lost 1 Grant Scurria lost 1
  5. 103:Boomsma over Boston in a close one. 7-6 112:Phillips over Petrov same result as last year 119:Campbell over Ayersman..not an upset, Campbell will be ready 125:McKinley over Kieffer..more dominant this time through 130:Molloy over Harvey...won't be as close, Molloy in OT over Barraquillo though is semi's 135:Jackson over Kieffer...closer than expected 140:Tsirtsis over Montgomery..we'll have to see maybe Mont. can keep up with technique 145:Roach over Weekly...solid matchup 152:Mullins over Welch...classic 160:LeFever over Willis....too much in the end 171:Lynde over Bratcher....hopefully we'll see a lot of offense 189:Boots over Stevenson.....upset darkhorse pick 215:Reese over Kral......kral with an overall good day, reese a gr8 day HWT:Suter over Meyer in a gr8 match better than last years
  6. my analysis of the match is that Todd had great wrist control (something HOWE used really well when he would tech fall everyone), thus the key for Phillips is to control the tie and stay away from Todd's tie ups ,,,Todd is super strong. That wrist-headlock-tie-up manuever was very effective, plus Phillips needs to get off bottom quicker. I think we are looking at a really close rematch. But they will both have to earn there way under the lights, Petrov and the rest are tuff as nails....
  7. I'm gonna pick one from each weight class--or atleast attempt too lol, don't mean to offend anyone, just some possible close matches...The bold ones I think have a decent shot @ the upset, the others are long shots 103: Perez vs. Hamm 112:Snyder vs. Shepard 119:Boston vs. Carrol 125:Blanton vs. Binion 130:House vs. Hartman135:Moore vs. Raley 140:Lannert vs. Meska 145:Whenstine vs. James152: ??? 160:??? 171:Shrewsbury vs. Manning 189:??? 215:??? 285:Stevenson vs. Henson
  8. I agree, wow, just a fantastic event!!! what time does it start though???
  9. Here we go again, just like all the previous years, numerous upsets will happen on Friday night! Who do you have on upset alert??????
  10. one got "robbed" the other "lucky", it was a very interesting weekend, Good luck to all at Conseco
  11. Your Very Welcomed 4DRAGONS!!!! Me and my brother were and are very humbled to have wrestled in the fieldhouse (me for 3 years, he did for 4). Semi-State is a great event. I think Mr. Baker (Yorktown State champ & current NCCHS teacher) does an excellent job ( along with his crew) and deserves a lot of credit for the way things are ran. Obviously Coach Peck does his part. I truly couldn't imagine if the SS wasn't held here, I can't even fathom it. I look forward to it every year. and yes some have made Stacks part of his/her "tradition" to eat there that weekend. We love the visitors. Always super friendly and conversations sometimes leads us to common friends (small world right). As far as I am concerned, wrestling has become my favorite sport, next to football that is, but this sport gives all shapes and sizes( of young men, and sometimes women) a chance to compete. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WRESTLERS THIS WEEK!!!!! Make it happen, no regrets, leave it on the mat!
  12. Going on 6 this year....best memory would be me wrestling @ Conseco (07) and placin 3rd, just barely missing out on wrestling under the lights, up 1-0 in the 2nd period of the semi-final match only to trip over myself and get pinned as i was trying to metzger the throw,,,dope (in my Homer voice)...Hope to see Nc's 3rd or maybe 4,5th state champ this year, hope coach Peck can have another ( 2 or 3 for that matter) before he retires
