I don't understand why the kid couldn't wrestle up if he weighed in at 152. I understand the rule that you can't wrestle if you didn't certify, but I feel like this is to prevent coaches from making their kids loose a lot of weight. I understand there is a risk of injury in wrestling kids that are bigger, but I don't think Roach would have been at too much of a disadvantage if he wrestled 160 after weighing 152. I remember weighing in at 190 once so I could wrestle a 250 pound heavyweight for a dual (obviously not in the state tournament) and I was fine .

Wabash College runs a great technique/competition camp towards the begining of June. In the past couple of years, upwards of 150 wreslters have attened per year. The camp draws in a lot of awesome clinicians. Last years headliner was John Smith. The year before was the man, the legend, the God: Dan Gable. They have also had the likes of Reece Humphrey and Rulon Gardner. I think I hear Andrew Howe will be making a visit this year....

I can't see how the IHSAA can even think about getting rid of Team State. While wrestling is an idividual sport, it is also a team sport. There are teams who simply feed off of each other in a dual situation and I think that this is an important part of wrestling at the high school level. Look at all that great wrestling that took place yesterday that never would have happened if we didn't have a Team State! If high school sports are about enriching the lives of our atheltes, letting the individuals on these teams have this experence is crutial.

This might be a little speed bump into Wesley's high school career. However, I think with some time off and some rehab the kid will be back on the mats kicking some butt.

I think any coach whose kid makes it to the second day at state probably knows a little about wrestling. To say that they are costing there kids matches is a little much if you ask me. I don't think anyone knows a wrestler more than their coaches who have dedicated countless hours of time watching them wrestle.

This is always a great RTC with tons of tough kids. I highly recommend anyone within a reasonable driving distance try to come out and get some good mat experience.

The Wabash Wrestling team would like to congratulate Senior Michael Burke and Freshman Jake Strausbaugh on their outstanding performances in the 2010 DIII Midwest Regional. Strausbaugh (Orrville, OH, Orrville High School) earned a national tournament berth by out wrestling his competition in the 141 pound weight class to a Regional Title. But his exceptional grappling did more than allow Strausbaugh to punch his ticket to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the D3 National Tournament. Strausbaugh was awarded Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament after putting on a marvelous performance. Michael Burke (Muncie, IN, Yorktown High School) will also find himself competing in at nationals this Saturday. While Burke came up short in his championship match at 197, the scrappy senior?s exceptional wrestling caught the eye of the coaches. After the tournament concluded, a conference held by all of the coaches elected to give Burke one of six wild-card bids to nationals. These two Little-Giants have worked hard all season and we wish them the best of luck as they represent Wabash this upcoming Saturday. GO GET ?EM GUYS! WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!

I am glad to see that people are talking about academics on here. I feel like academics is often overlooked in favor of athletics. It is good to see that people are saying he should go to schools like Northwestern and Cornell because of their academic prestige as well as athletic performance.
