  1. Thanks MattM. So, it's been 67-years since twins were state champions. This makes for some interesting possiblities with the Welch brothers next week.
  2. Have twins ever been Indiana State champions in the same year? I ask because of the Welch brothers at 145 & 152 from Castle. Both were semi-state champions today, and both are undefeated.

  7. SWASHBUCKLER, I'm having trouble understanding your reply to my post. I don't think I mentioned in any way at all that MD wrestled a weak schedule. I saw every match MD wrestled this year, and I know how tough the teams they wrestled were. I typically travel to Cincinnati for the SWOWCA tournament, and talk about brutal, and St. Louis can be a meatgrinder. I'm not sure what excuse you think I used in my post. I sure don't see one. My point was this, Mater Dei isn't chopped liver and Castle beat them. Therefore, Castle must be given all the respect that they deserve. This is the best Castle team ever, and they have an excellent chance of winning it all. I for one, will be at Center Grove rooting for them.
  8. You are correct about him wrestling during the 1993-1994 season, but according to the ISHAA, his record was 32-6. Obviously, I have no idea which is correct. If it was 33-6, then his winning percentage was .846, not .842.
  9. I did a little research to find out what the lowest winning percentage for an individual state champion was. Back in the 1988-1989 season, Pete Knecht from Huntington North, wrestling at 145, won state with a 32-6 record, which is a winning percentage of .842. He also has the most losses for a state champion, with six. The won/lost records only go back to the 1968-1969 season. So it's very possible that someone had a lower winning percentage or more losses. Maybe some the old timers on this forum can provide additional information on this topic.
  10. I think Castle has an excellent chance of winning it all. They are very strong from 130 thru 215, with the only weak spot being 160, and he finished 2nd in the regional. They are also strong at 112. The only weight were I feel they are weak, is 103. So I think Castle will present match-up problems for any team they wrestle. I saw Castle early in the year, and I must say, they have improved dramatically. They appear to be peaking at the right time. In the Mater Dei-Castle regional match, Castle won at 140 (4-2), 152 (7-6 OT), 160 (6-5), and 172 (7-6). Those were close matches, but Castle found a way to win each one. So Mater Dei isn't exactly chopped liver. I have to agree that Mater Dei isn't as strong as they've been in years past, but I don't feel that they don't wrestle anyone as Fabio Jr. posted. I think the team state finals will be intersting. I will drive up just to see if Castle can pull it off.
  11. Congratulations are in order for the Castle Knights. I was at Jasper last night, and it came as no surprise to me that Castle won. They presented tremendous match-up problems for Mater Dei. Castle is very strong from 130 through 215, and their 112 isn't to shabby at all. So I belive they will present problems for other teams at team state as well. If Castle has any weak links, they are at 103, 119, 125, 160, and 285. Other than those, Castle covers all the other weigh classes well. Castle should have a good showing this Saturday at the individual regional, which by the way, is at Castle. Again, congratulations to the Castle Knights, and best of luck the remainder of the season.
