  2. Kevin Lake…he was a New Haven guy. But that sounds about right, except for “Achy Breaky Heart”…you guys must have been desperate. . Thanks for sharing!
  3. That’s awesome! I appreciate you posting that. Those were good camps back in the day! Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago. Glad I could help in some small way! Good luck and keep plugging along!
  4. As I said in my first post, I think we are a top 3 seed. I think WC should be and can be rewarded for their win without saying Rochester or any other team automatically gets a much lower seed given what we've done this year and in previous years. The reasons people are using to give South Adams, WC, or whoever else a higher seed can be used for Rochester and other teams in the field as well. I don't know how it will shake out but I know it's going to be a crazy, exciting day.
  5. You also can’t just assume certain teams jump in front of teams like Prairie Heights, who lost a pretty close dual with AC. And, Tell City has no head to heads with any 1A teams in the field in duals or tourneys so how do they automatically get the 2nd seed? Having said that I think TC is a top 3 seed but those are all things to consider. I don’t think this is as clear cut as some think it is. What do I know
  6. I don't think it will change much, if any at all. Rochester has wins over 3A #5 and a 2 point loss to 3A #10, who 3A #5 also beat. We also have a dual win against 2A #7 and we have a tournament 1st place where we out placed 2A #8, 1A #6, and 1A #7. West Central and Rochester went 7-7 in matches, they got one more fall (tougher team than they look on paper that is for sure). They are also in the 1A Team State field. Given our wins this year, I think those outweigh our 2 losses and we should be in the #1-#3 seed range. I don't know who does the seeding...just my 2 cents.
  7. Rochester has 10. We have a dual scheduled with John Glenn. We have a state qualifier, 4th placer, and runner up coming back.
  8. I don't disagree and if this would have been last year, I would not have made any changes to the schedule or very minor ones. This year we have some young kids and it could matter for them. We've got some studs but at the end of the day my job is to help kids win, get our team qualified for team state, get as many kids as possible as far as I can in the state series, and help our studs hit some big goals at the state tourney. And yes, I know my job is much more than that...those are just outcomes we set our sights on.
  9. #1 Criteria per Robert Faulkens - Seeds are based on how many wins you have against the kids in your bracket, if you don't wrestle any of them then your chances of getting a good seed are pretty low. Why would I not want to put my kids in the best position I can to move on in the state series? Now, I also understand we can't see everyone in our sectional and that's ok, but we need to see some of them. Some coaches don't do it that way and that's ok. Just not the way I think.
  10. I contacted Coach Sandefer about 11 days ago when I started hearing rumors. We are on the wait list and we'd have to get out of a contract we are locked in to...not as easy as people think it is. But yes, that is on our list. We still need to change many dates in our schedule to see sectional opponents.
  11. Anyone want to swap schedules that was going to EC? LOL...we have no one on our schedule that wrestles in the Plymouth Sectional.
  12. Rochester will be hosting a Girls Tourney on Saturday, November 18th. We will be getting information out and sending to IHSGW.net ASAP.
  13. Hey Joe...can you do me a favor and check your email I sent you via Indianamat?
  14. I don’t disagree but I think it’s a little more important than “don’t worry about it” when you have kids working their tails off and have goals. It’s important that we do what’s right by kids.
  15. We have the benefit that all but 2 of our conference teams are in our sectional so that helps us. But we still found that when using record against the field that very few kids had more than 4 matches against the field even though many of us wrestled against each other. Why? I don’t know but I have my thoughts on it. I never said to require everyone to wrestle each team in the sectional. I said make it 1/2. Heck make it 3-4. I don’t care but if record against the field is what we have to do now, then coaches need to make an effort to wrestle each other. If they won’t, then something needs to be done. What’s your solution? for the record, I still think record against the field is absolutely dumb for our sport.
  16. If "Record against common opponent" now means "Record against the field"...which I still argue is the dumbest thing I've heard, then there should be a requirement that a wrestler must have a specific number of matches against the field. Similar to a wrestler required to have 10 matches to get seeded. For example, If your sectional has 10 teams, then a wrestler should have 5+ matches vs the field, just take 1/2 of the number of teams. If you have less than that, then you can't be seeded...Or some version of that.
  17. How does the category points play in to the calculations? I just used the chart for under and upperclassmen and Rochester has 205. Is that correct or am I missing something with the Sectional and Regional Quota Numbers?
  18. Talk about a nerve racking Sunday, before the internet. I used to go out and get all of the Sunday papers and work through the formula. Biggest thing for me is we were able to figure out the "pattern" or at least notice what was happening. Random should be random. If my assistant can figure it out, then anyone can. Tristan's going to make me pay for that!
  19. I just wrote it out on paper and found the same thing so I stand corrected at 126.
  20. Then it's not random...IMO. I'm a math teacher and the combinations and permutations that are possible make it almost impossible to come out with the exact same draws in consecutive years. Again, I really don't care. I just thought it was interesting what we were able to find. What'd I'd really like is the for the IHSAA to be honest and actually make it random.
  21. I preface my next statement knowing that we only looked at our guys and our regional BUT something interesting one of my assistants found when he had some time on his hands back in the fall... After looking at about 8-9 years of data, he predicted with 100% accuracy our draws for this Semi-State. While the IHSAA says they are random...they are not. There is a pattern to them and the pattern he found held true when he was predicting where we would fall. Obviously he couldn't predict the match ups but he predicted the spots. It doesn't matter either way, but it's something we thought was interesting given that we are always told it's "Random". Matter of fact...we are pretty sure the IHSAA used the same formula as last year. Again, we haven't looked at all cases, but our 120/126/152 quarter brackets are in the exact same spots as last year wrestling the same regional spots. Those are just 3 examples.
  22. LOL...I'm not sure how we ever got reported as having 495. Our count is actually much lower than that.
