  1. On a related note Jose Chamapagne has had a decent freshman year wrestling at Minnesota.
  2. Sure most champs is good to brag about but doesn't show as much about the total semi-states talent. Most tournaments points scores would likely be the most accurate, but involves a lot of calculating. So most placers is probably the easiest to determine the top Semi-State.
  3. 15-20 years ago the population of Hendricks county was probably around 80,000. That area and the area just outside of northern Indy is, at least was, the two fastest growing parts of the state.
  4. They have already. You can contact the IU athletic office and purchase tickets through there.
  5. If it's a pre-existing issue that is elimination the wrestler from competing then his school is suppose to contact the proper people. If it's a day of miss weight issue then the alternate would just need to show up that evening and hope.
  6. Yes he's been at HWT, but I think he could go 220 if he wanted to. He has wrestled internationally at 220 not to long ago.
  7. We always hear about the "Darkhorse" that could win state but that almost always is a lower ranked wrestler. With brackets out we can see what potential matchups may be favorable to a certain wrestlers style. So, which unranked wrestlers will crash the Rankings Party and place the highest this weekend?
  8. That probably should have made the list as the #5. Good catch maligned.
  9. Wrestling Scholar posted a clear definition above. I figured I'd help the visual learners out too.
  10. All the champs will have to go through a series of battles to win, but some have a very tough mountain to climb of proven studs. As FabioJr. used to say its "MAN TIME." Just based on the current rankings here are my top 4: #1 195 Wilderman or Stewart Friday #5 Wilderman / #2 Stewart Quarterfinals likely gets #4 Eli Semi-Finals likely gets #3 Davison Finals likely gets #1 Tonte #2 220 Parris or Scroggs. Friday #1 Parris / #3 Scroggs Quarterfinals likely gets #6 Crider Semi-Finals likely gets #2 Larson Finals likely gets #4 Maddox or #5 Pokorney #3 106 Curtis or Mattingly Friday #1 Curtis vs #3 Mattingly Quarterfinals likely gets #8 Rioux Semi-Finals likely gets #5 Lowery Finals likely gets #2 Johnson or #4 Black #4 126 Cummings or White Friday #3 Cummings vs #5 White Quarterfinals likely gets #7 Lee Semi-Finals likely gets #2 Rooks Finals likely gets #1 Mulkey or #4 DeLa Pena
  11. With a 3-0 Dual Meet Record Seymour Middle School captures the 2016-17 Tri-County Wrestling Championship. Seymour MS 72 Columbus Northside MS 37 Seymour MS 70 Jennings County MS 33 Seymour MS 66 Columbus Central MS 54
  12. Having Semi-State in an arena sure is nice for the fans and gives the wrestlers a sample of the atmosphere they will be in at Bankers Life. The only other arena style buildings that I know of in that Semi-State are IU's Assembly Hall and the Indiana States Arena. Both of which maybe decent for the event, but would still result in the same travel issues for some teams that Evansville has now.
  13. I thought about that and combining it with some Regional locations, however the current set up of awarding semi-state Qualifiers seems like a good one to me. Under your proposal it would mean the Regional qualifiers would either get an automatically state bid or they would have to make weight and wrestleback on back to back days. That doesn't seem like the best option. Admitting all regional qualifiers would eliminate several potential participants from the current Fresh/Soph qualifier. Plus, I like idea of showing you have earned your state qualification through winning enough to reach semi-state. The local youth event pairing maybe a good idea, but due to major youth numbers it could end up being a very long day too. The qualifier for Fresh/Soph could possibly be paired qualifier for another older youth event like Girls State (means shifting it to later in the season) and/or MS State (means moving state back a week or two). That would allow for coaches to be at the same location which was one issue. It would also allow more participants but not make the day run as long as if you paired it with a major youth tournament.
  14. If possible adding one or two more qualifier location may help with the long day of wrestling and travel time. It may mean cutting back on how many actually qualify for state, but it could help draw in some more competition too since their travel and cost would be lowered. Obviously finding the locations, officials, and support is a big part of adding more.
  15. I believe current IHSAA rules still prevents a blind draw for the State Tournament Series.
  16. Or the better questions where will people be between sessions and that evening?
  17. Not to far away from ISWA Folkstyle State, with the Cadet group being typically 8th grade - 10th grade. I'm sure we will see a few decent matchups there between some talented young high school wrestlers and some stud 8th graders.
  18. I'm pretty sure South was at 145 for JV Conference. And you don't have to worry about South needing to lift more get to a certain weight class, that kids been on a solid lifting routine for quite some time.
  19. The Stock family was in the same boat as the Rooks clan at one point Saturday, I think it was semi-finals for both. One was wrestling on Mat 1 and at the same time the other on Mat 4. Those families must have had some sore necks the next day.
  20. It is sponsored by the ISWA, so it would follow under the USA Wrestling system. Which is why you would need a USA Wrestling card to participate for insurance reason. It is not affiliated with the IHSAA.
  21. SIACfan I took it to means compares to the average chance of advancing wrestlers to state from the starting field at Semi-State. He was saying by getting 5 though that would be 67% better than the odds would say should happen for a team in general. Not the actual % of the 12 on the MD team that advanced. I didn't crunch the numbers to verify, but that's what I took his variables to be.
  22. I would think Floyd, Evansville, Pike, or Decatur
  23. Not that there is many in general, but Daniels is one of the better Judo locations you will find around. Kenney would have got some solid Judo training/competition (throws and some submission) when he was training there.
