  1. All the brackets at FloNationals are always packed with decent kids, but Flo had a article a few days ago on how tough the 220 bracket was this year. Parris will have add a few more "pelts to his wall" if he can win out.
  2. Thanks for keeping things going Sig. It's great to see these kids get some recognition for the portfolio of state and national accomplishments some of these kids have put together over the last year. I think its been a great addition to the website.
  3. Consider the more recognizable DI national champ wrestlers he was up against for the award, his ability to prove to voters he was worthy of even Top 10 consideration is a great accomplishment. Good luck to him as he takes his next steps both on and off the mat.
  4. Not saying the moves are right or wrong but one thing to consider is that the host site for Sectional or Regional (Semi-state for that matter) is usually not located in the center of that district. So yes in some cases the drive time may be shorter to a different host site, but that's only due to the host site being located farther from that districts "central location," as well. It is also helpful to understand that in many areas there is only so many "main roads" that lead to the host site. Some of which are not direct point to point connections between your school and the host site. So yes, to get to the host site on those main roads it is conceivable that some schools may pass by another school district which attends a different host site on the way to their own site. While this does not solve all the issue, looking at it that way does help show why some schools travel time has changed.
  5. Would the extra near-fall point encourage more people to pin? Or just benefit those that use tilts to their scoring advantage? In my view those that actually go for a pin are trying to get the pin and are not as concerned with any accumulation of nearfall they may receive. Those going for tilts are more concerned with the nearfall point and unless someone obviously falls (sure pun intended) into a pinning combination, they are not even looking for the pin. This is coming from someone who would have loved to have the additional nearfall points from my tilts and turns. Sure it may end matches quicker via techfall, and sure it may encourage someone to try a little more mat wrestling rather than the takedown clinic, but I don't see the move as really increasing the amount of actual pins wrestlers try to get.
  6. That and all of their athletic and university allotted academic scholarship money being tied up with other wrestlers for the next several years. Paying your own way and possibly not even being a starter for your first few years would turn a few top guys away.
  7. Teasdale is just a Junior this year so he won't be in the Happy Valley lineup for a little while longer. But yes the talent PSU will have over the next several years is a little ridiculous.
  8. They had him penciled in at 141. Not sure if that may change with the lineup shuffling that sometimes occurs during the off season.
  9. Last I was told he was not going to take classes at PSU until possibly later this summer.
  10. As to not say the wrong thing, someone else will have to speak on the exact NCAA guidelines on how these University associated wrestling clubs works.
  11. He has been part of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club this year. Obviously this is associated with the school. He is interested in and preparing himself to enter the starting lineup next year. Speculation has been maybe at 141 to replace Gulibon if he can maintain that weight. But in the end it's going to depend what Coach Sandersons long term plan is.
  12. At Big10s he rode a guy for almost 2 full periods before he finally turned them with short time left in the 3rd. Maybe he was hoping for more of the same. Get a stalling, riding time, and then a late turn to tie it up or win. He's has some trouble getting takedowns against some of the better guys so trying to get a 5 pointer may not have been something he was confident in. I'm assuming a year or two more in the room and he will have a solid takedown to help make him a big enough threat that opponents will have to think twice on their period choice.
  13. Are you sure your not thinking of his brother David that graduated after placing 4th last year? Josh if tough and it's a good win for Huskies, but I'm not sure that Terao has AAed yet.
  14. I hope he's ready for some judo throws.
  15. My only prediction is that no one that knows who Hughes is will choose down against him.
  16. It's worth noting that Hump had a somewhat later start at wrestling compared to the average Indiana stud. Jim let him come into it on his own, so Reece really didn't get going until middle school. I would think that late start would mean he was still in the early stages of his wrestling potential as a freshman and his skillset still had plenty of room to grow even compared to the normal HS wrestlers career progress. Not sure who would have won the match, but I'd say the outcome would be much closer than what we saw that freshman year.
  17. I'm sure we could "what if" a few of the region studs that have opted to go to school in Illinois over the last few years.
  18. There maybe some options here http://board.themat.com/index.php?/topic/14267-thread-for-ncaa-tickets-for-sale/
  19. From my understanding the student would have to be a student at a participating IHSAA school. So unless the homeschool student is at least taking some classes at a member HS it would not currently be allowed. I'm not sure what the actual % of classes has to be though, that maybe a individual school decision.
  20. i.e. a "Private Lesson" with an outside academy coach would be fine, but attending a regular academy practice with other schools wrestlers would not be. Most Academy/Club coaches should be aware of this and hopefully steering wrestlers clear of any rules violation.
  21. I know a 138lber currently in the Pennsylvania area named Lee that Fix could face if he'd wrestle up a weight.
  22. Post tournament interview with Riley. Nice to see him give props to his teammates and credit to others. Nice humble interview for such an accomplishment. http://s200.trackwrestling.com/tw/PortalPlayer.jsp?TIM=1489335104985&twSessionId=ikcqywikmulviml&videoId=367505076
  23. If Lee indeed hasn't really practiced for the last month I would think Desanto's gas tank would be a great asset to him in the match. He seemed to have a great game plan for attacking Lee and keeping him at bay which allows for the chance to win at the end. From what I've read he was just running through kids all weekend.
  24. The Mat side clock was at 0 in the middle of the scramble. So I'd say no takedown. But without a replay that a rough on for the refs to call.
