TicketMaster is one of the biggest rackets in the history of racketeering. Provide absolutely no service whatsoever and just cost event goers an extra lump of money. Should be a crime, they are nothing but scalpers.

Always been amazed how a computer based system where I still have to locate and input most of the information to get the ticket tacks on such a high “processing” fees.  They should least call it something else cause the actual “processing” involved isn’t putting them out that much per ticket.  Does the IHSAA get some extra kick back on this “processing?”. Cause if not I not sure why they feel this is the best option for anyone involved.

Fair point - post season distribution does play in to it. What are some other conferences you’d put up there against the DAC and HCC in terms of being one of the toughest/deepest conferences?

Not knowing the distribution well I'm not sure I would be the best to answer that. But, would say if a decent amount of the conference wrestlers advanced to SS (yes I know not all paths are created equal) they should be in consideration.

Another point to throw out would be top-heavy conference qualifiers vs. qualifiers being distributed among several teams.  If we are talking toughest/deepest I'd lean more toward the distribution factor over just one or two teams dominating the qualifiers.  The DAC and HCC would be among those conferences where the distribution is pretty good too.

Thanks!  So with 7/8 and 6/8 teams sending kids to State and 24 and 23 total qualifiers respectively for DAC and HCC I would say those conferences appear to be the deepest in Indiana.

I don't doubt there is some talent there.  However, one thing to take into consideration is that some conferences have wrestlers that run into each other often in sectional and regionals while other conferences are better spread out and may not have a chance to see each other much before semi-state.   So I'd venture to say a few other conferences are decently deep too, but due to the alignment ended up either eliminating each others wrestlers or at least putting them in a position to get a pretty bad draw to overcome at semi-state.

  4. Ford Center seating says 11,000 but will that number of seats actually be available with how State will how state is set up.  I'd venture to say the seating for State would be slightly less than 11,000.  Plus, wasn't it also mentioned someplace earlier that suites would be an option, which I'd assume is also counted in the 11,000 number?  And there isn't much space for the wrestlers to be in between matches other than finding a seat in the stands too.

From what I can recall the Grainbridge/Bankerslife attendance for the finals was usually over 11,000 and I'm not sure that included anyone who went in through the IHSAA process (wrestlers, coaches, administration, etc.).

So, I'd say some of you might need to hope the travel to Evansville is indeed a hindrance and more folks have considered watching it via the stream.

  5. All I know is every coaches meeting I have attended this year the head official stressed that the IHSAA wanted to specifically emphasize respect and sportsmanship this season.  The head official almost always followed that up with a notice that the referees would be vigilant of any "out of characteristic" behaviors during or at the conclusion of a match.  At some events, the referees even gave examples such as excessive celebrations or and taunting being among the situations the IHSAA was concerned about cracking down on.  Then the officials pointed out that coaches needed to make sure their wrestlers were aware that any Unsportsman-like Conduct Penalty would carry over with the wrestlers through the entire course of that event.  With two ULC or one Flagrant Misconduct resulting in that wrestler being eliminated from the competition and in this case the entire tournament series.  I'm assuming a very similar speech was provided at all of the state's tournament series sites across the state.

While emotions do occasionally run high with teenagers in this sport and I hate to see anyone eliminated from the State series over one quick decision, I'm not sure any coach or wrestler can honestly say the warning wasn't very clear all season on what could potentially happen to the wrestler if things got out of hand on the mat.

Any word on what parents with other minor children are supposed to do with them since the parents can only get 2 tickets? Will they have a section that has babysitters?

Evansville’s Signature School across the street could have their fundraiser for the entire year complete by offering that service over next weekend.

    Noon start today on plus.
Featured match if not the most” unusual one” is at 184 . Roman and Ryder  Rogotzke , Brothers, wrestling each other.  I can’t ever remember this happening in modern D1 competition.

It’s rare but happens on occasion.  I know the Davison brothers have faced off before when one was at Michigan and the other Northwestern.

Here is a recent thread on some other matchups that have occurred.

Happens every year. A mat or two will be on mute most of the day.

I just wish someone would close the curtains or pull the shades.  Mats 2 & 3 have some serious glare making it difficult to make out much detail.  And Mat 1 could use a bit of a zoom, as it is farther back than the other mats.

As for the other schools; I'll be Switzerland.

I mean Switzerland County Vevey, IN isn't a big place to visit, but if you want to make the trip I'm sure they have someplace interesting to eat at.   Switzerland (County) hasn't been doing too bad lately for a small school.  Several dedicated youth kids now filtering through the HS system.  Their relative location is close to Cincinnati and near the decent side of Kentucky Wrestling maybe  providing them some off-season training options as well.

Also not fair for a wrestler to prepare all week for one opponent and then find out Saturday morning they have someone different.

In a similar line of thinking I’ve said for awhile when an alternate is needed the rest of the wrestlers from that group should get to choose if they want to move up or remain in their original spot.  One reason being what you pointed out above.  The other being that with the SS and state draws having an obvious affect on who you face sometimes moving up to fill the void would puts you in a worse position (sadly) than were you were oroginally placed.

the only….four-stage tournament series and the only individual IHSAA-sanctioned sport with a semi-state level

In my view it’s not exactly the same when comparing score judged or clock timed sports with that of athlete vs athlete ones. Tennis and wrestling are unique when compared to the other individual sports and due to the bracketing dynamic more similar to the set up of the other team sports.  Tennis just happens to allow far fewer competitors per team to compete compared to 14 weights in wrestling which gives them more wiggle room on state series rounds.

In most individual sports you win or place high you move on but certain cut times or cut scores are also used to fill the additional advancement spots. You can have a large field of teams and athletes in that dynamic.  Not to turn this into a seeding or wrestleback thread but the advancement is different compared to a bracketed athlete vs athlete competition.  You can only fit so many athletes and teams into a day when you are at the mercy of athlete vs athlete competition.

So yes most individual sports can skip a level and save time since more can be packed into a shorter time frame due to how many can compete at a time and or how many actual rounds you need to have.  Tennis and wrestling are the two individual sports that just don’t have as much of that luxury, nor do the team sports.

We can also say other states do it for wrestling but when they cut the field in thirds or fourths or more by classing it you have a lot fewer competitors to fit in each round of the state series.  So yes they could likely skip the added round.

I do think Regionals a a little short of a state series round, but I assume it there to help balance or somewhat clean up the two sectionals results before the top 4 are placed into the bigger grind of semi-state.

Me too, I always love to see the region guys succeed. At his best he’s definitely an all American, and I think he returns to form come big tens. I feel like the weight cut is tough in him

It's never really been a good thing for his gas tank.  Against these top guys he has got to find a way to control the pace of the match until he finds an opening to explode for a few points.  In the matches where they have keep the pace up, even when he has an early lead, it tends to not turn out great for him in the last period.
