  1. Not sure of the exact number of parochial and private school in IN with an extensive sports program, but it seems like it would mean a somewhat small tournament in most sports.
  2. Not exactly the in-depth journalistic questioning most of rest of the article had but it was by far the highlight of that interview.
  3. Some school/group used to put on a takedown tournament during the preseason. Wouldn't mind seeing that come back into existance. It seemed like a good concept.
  4. After this one I'm starting to think Penn has truely lost the motivation to train hard for fights. He's obviously uninspired by the challenger at his weight to push himself to be at top level for an entire match. A lackluster Penn is not worth watching so he may be due for a retirement as a fighter. I can see him disappearing to just hang out in Hilo training with guys at his gym. Maybe his next inspiration can come from building one of his fighter into a big name since he doesn't seem to want to do what it takes to be there anymore.
  5. I know the news was posted before but its worth mentioning again. Also, this is Indiana's 6th Official of the Year, which is 2 more than the next closest states. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=22443
  6. It will be intersting to see if Penn does get his "hunger" back. When he is on his top game not many people can hang with him but you never quite know if he is motivated enough to train as much as he should. The Couture fight is mostly a joke baring a lucky right from the opening bell from Toney. When this one is all said and done we should see 2 things. 1-classically trained boxers can not automatically become UFC fighters in a few months. 2-Toney will quickly have to resort to what little wrestling he learned in those two month proving that to be in the UFC even a boxer realizes you need something more. Florian is another one of those guys I just don't see winning all the big fights but he always finds a way to get the job done. Maynard will be getting a test against a now proven vet to see his his name deserves to be at the top of the division. Maia will hopefully be out to proves he's more than a one trick BBJ pony and Miranda need to prove he should be considered for big fights in the future. I can't stand Diaz when he opens his mouth but his lanky body does present a challenge to many fighters. Diaz also has some crazy need to always prove his self as a striker which can get him into trouble against someone with heavy hands like Davis (if he can get past the reach to get inside).
  7. Look on the bright side. Next year it will be at Purdue with a bonus of having Nebraska participating for the first time.
  8. Hope its just confusion with the Purdue site webmaster . I already convinced my wife to let me take the roadtrip to PU that weekend.
  9. I can see a day in the futere where almost all sports are removed from being school ran and establishing a a European style club is the only way to participate. With schools being able to rent out facilities for extra cash. This will occur because of two reason. (A) Tranfers for athletic reason getting completely out of hand and thus losing complete sight of schools being established for educational purposes first. ( School have an even harder time finding extra money in their budgets to support the basic needs most sports programs. I'm not completely in favor of it but with the way things are going I'm sure some people will start suggesting it as a solution.
  10. Well in Brooks case I believe we heard a similar rumor last year. If I recall it was started by someone that knew him who just to see everyone react to a top names tranfering. So we may want to hold that rumor with a grain of salt. However, we always have a few tranfers around the state each year that look like more of an athletic priority first and a as good or better educational sitaution an added bonus.
  11. Be nice to get that raffle online. I'm sure several in the central and southern end of the state would love to get in on it to help Angel. Especially with many of those types of prizes available.
  12. I'd say at least the semi-finals and finals of the Capital City Classic at the very start of the season is a can't miss for those needing a quick wrestling fix. With the talent present you are either ready from day one or you will be taking an early season loss.
  13. Yeah but most better education oppertunities could be fixed much easier and cheaper than moving a great distance to a far away school distract. Between tutors, college course they offer online to HS students, or a move to a school distract very close by familes have plenty of oppertunity to help improve their childs education without moving a great distance away. Education may be the reason most feed to the athletic association of their state but in most cases of good athletes moving to a top program it was finding a school in that area of the state with the best athletics that also was OK education and safty wise. This is same story with some parents saying they moved because of a new job. I have no doubt the had to move a great distance because the family needed to pay the bills and they couldn't find a job close by. However, most could have easily found a community with a great school education wise just 10-30min from that new job. But its strange they would then buy a house 45min or much farther from work that just happened to be in an area with a top sports program their son/daughter is involed in. I'm all for helping the kids out in sports but some people do seem to lose track of the education, community, and character development their kids need from them before the athletic benifits. In most cases if the kid was that good he/she was good without being part of that top team. So he/she already has the kind of athletic exposure to the the people at the next level who are follwing him/her withouth moving.

    Move-Ins

I wouldn't make much sense for it to be Hall. He would only be in 8th this year and couldn't wrestle HS in Indiana or most states for that matter. So it seems like he would either find someplace in Michigan he can train at for a MS season or go back to Kentucky so he can wrestle HS state again. Easiest answer would be a HS kid from the Chicago area toward a region school. But in the scheme of tranfers its not hard to fathom someone from say the Southwestern Michigan border trying to move to a tough region school, someone from Northeast Missouri or Southeastern Illinois border moving to Evensville area school, or even someone from west central Ohio moving Yorktown. Now I'm not in any way saying anyone at these school are trying to pull these kids in. However the kids at that high of a level and their parents both know where the top wrestling school this section of the country are. Then it just takes either having a relative in the area or a oppertunity for a job to make the move happen and go from being in an average wrestling program to being in a room with stud practice partners and a great coach. Personally I think to many people get away from the education part of things when they get so deep into a sport the uproot their family and move a great distance just to be with a top notch team. If the kids that good already he really doesn't need the new team that much. Plus if its under the idea of helping in educaiton in most cases that could have been found much claser than a great distance away too.
  15. He should be near top of the list when the RC actually comes up with the rankings since he was #1 most of last year at 189. But he went out due to injury at end of year so he didn't meet criteria for the list given of last years finalists who are returning.
  16. Wow Oliveira just acted like he had been practicing only that move since birth. Very quick, smooth, and calm transition to a triangle choke after a big time takedown by Elkins. Tough break for Darren who I don't think even had time to realize it was coming.
  17. I have no clue what to think in the Silva Sonnen fight. Sonnen On one hand I like the step up to the plate approach Sonnen is bring to the fight. He seems to have the drive and look in his eye that could allow him to be a little super human for some of this fight. One the other hand the trash talk is starting to go a little overboard. That attitude if not in check could cause him to go off gameplan and take a major tactical risk which will chance the fight quickly and end things badly for Sonnen. Silva One one hand Silva has superior skills and should be able to embarass Sonnen from most positions. Even if he get taken down he should be able to fend off the attack with little damage until its get back to standing. One the other hand Silva's "clowning" in the ring can only go so far. I know the guys upset he doesn't get challenged but at some point that stuff becomes overdone and someone needs to stop it. The Sonnen trash talking seems to be an attempt to get Silva into the "Clowning" persona (though less than last time if he want to keep fighting according to Dana) where he will throw crazy stuff. Then when he thinks he can do no wrong in the fight Sonnen can find the opening he needs to win. Maybe a good idea but will it work. Silva may just come out and try to get a 1 min TKO and walk out like its just another day at the office. Head says Silva TKO in 3rd round. But something makes me want to see Sonnen rise to the occasion and make it a 5 round battle though I think even that will end with a Silva win by decision. Fitch and Alves should be a night fight. Guida has been a fighter to watch since he returned to the UFC. Something he has chanced in his training or mental game has payed off for him. Who know what to think of a think of Roy Nelson. About as graceful as you can be for a guy with a mega beer gut. Then you have dos Santos who seems to need to prove somethign to the UFC match makers. To me Hendricks still hasn't made a complete turn to MMA fighter and relies a lot on wrestling when he gets in a fix but he has been improving and the 8-0 record says something is going right. Phil Davis is becoming a very well versed fighter that could who could be a major UFC name down the line. Dennis Hallman (man he's had a lot of fights) and Matt Hughes on the same card is noteable.
  18. I'm guessing she has a "Y2CJ41 Born" sleeper shirt on already.
  19. Not quite the Fargo Week birth you were shooting for, but congrats none the less.
  20. Actually I think its American Historian "Charles "Kendall Adams" Drooke. Though their seems to b econflicting accounts on who said it based on similar names. Bada Boom! ;D Reguardless, something can always be improved in the wrestling process. Some of the instant fix to the situation is finding a way to get a full team to take the trip (Duals and Fargo both). Then make sure it loaded with the top two or three placers from the state competition. Obviously this is an issue with many states but it seems some have less of a problem with it each year than others. I'm sure our guys fought hard but when you start in a hole its hard to dig out.
  21. Hildebrandt comes in second this year against her somewhat constant big match opponent Brendlinger. Two of the more accomplished women on the scene right now and they just happen to be around the same weight. Strub had a tough 3 period battle but ended up falling short and also comes in second. Amazing showing by the small Indiana Womens crew. You guys should be proud.
  22. Not sure the video was made but Ormsbee was unreal the times he was caught on the video stream earlier in the competition so I'm sure it was a really tough one for Jason.
  23. I was informed that Kayla Miricle was removed from the competition after officials ruled her to young to compete. Apparently in the womens division you also have to have been in high school to be at the junior level. They were apparently told otherwise before she made the trip out there. To bad. Though it is good to see she was not elimiated for a true Misconduct and that she still has 4 more years to preform well.
