Tie. Very back and forth match. Brands said it best though that lack of bonus points hurt Iowa's chances of putting down a good Oklahoma St. squad.
Iowa's dual winning streak comes to an end, but by definition their unbeaten dual streak continues.

I thought the ihsaa rules stated you must have 6 official weigh ins at the scratch weight. So even after the allowances you still have to make scratch if you haven't had at least 6.
You have to have 6 weigh-ins to participate in sectionals. It does not say they have to be at your sectional weight class.
Not sure on the wording but it does say says something about having one weigh-in at scratch weight of your sectional weight class.
You can get a weigh-in without actually participating in that wrestling event.
Obviously you are expected to follow your personal eight management plan to get to that scratch weight and the plan to to know what your minimum weight for sectionals can be.
The previous rule of having so many qualifying weights at you sectional weight was removed when the new weight management plan was put in place.

Can't they show this stuff after the Jets game? Good thing they invented the last channel button on remote control, so I can flip between them. Oklahoma State may be able to find an edge back in this long time battle.

I'd say if anything it show the Genius Rankings, because of how it is set up, may be better at pick a dual meet situation than an individual tournament one. Since both had different factors in how a winner is determined. The Genius Ranking also have some slight flaws even then since the nature of our sport causes movement in weight class throughout the year which could cause a slightly bigger impact when compared to how the rankings from football or basketball work if one player (unless he is super special) is out of their line up. Agreed it is a good system that does help show where the dual team strength around the state. But, because of the nature of moving people around in weight classes and the different in a dual compared to a individual tournament I think wrestling may be a harder to develop a accurate point spread for compared to others.

Just think with the way regional finals matches go and the semi-state draw the numbers you gave could fluctuate up or down easily. I would say JC, CE have the best shot at getting more than one guy through. Some some luck either team could get 3-4 to state. Weekly & Shepard from Jeff and Kennedy from FC being the next best two but both team can usually get a few kids to semi-state and that at least a chance of getting another kid to state. Our conference in unique in that we only split between two sectional and never see the other group until semi-state. In some cases that causes our conference to hurt each other chances causing a few early eliminations in semi-state. In other cases it help cause in some weights our sectional may be tougher than our regional and the conference will advance multiple kids at one weight to semi-state increasing the chances of someone from it advancing to state. For most of the rest it going to take some Someone that is more than deserving usually makes a costly error and get a very hard draw so that make predictions hard. Another guy has a great match and get a great draw. There are multiple factors to look into to figure out how many actually go but the HHC has enough talent to get a few guys through and represent the conference well.

I'm not sure I would call the Noblitt win an anomaly. He threw Kennedy to his back and Noblitt looked like the better wrestler all day.
Noblitt did look solid on the day and waited to his opportunity against Kennedy. But going off the "Genius Rankings" I would say it was an anomaly. Those rankings have little East scores with Noblitt (or anyone) at 103 which would lower East expected results compared to the actual results. The advancements points for Noblitt and the pin points verses Kennedy who would have been factor in as helping Floyd based on the teams previous results was a big factor in Guinus Rankings not equally reality. Just as the rankings would have most of JC results with Baldwin in the lineup which would increase their expected results compared to the actual results. Though I will say his replacement is a solid wrestlers which shows some of the depth JC has as a team. Just saying why sometimes background information doesn't equal reality since many factors change throughout the season in wrestling.

I?d say CE has 1 (their best kids are in tough weight classes), JC has 3, Jeff has 2, FC has 1. That all depends on matchups at semi-state but those are the ones that look like they have it.
Not sure I completely agree with those numbers. But a big factor does comes down to how these guys can set themselves up through regional placement and if the semi-state draw is kind or not.

I'm wondering how this is possible. Do you think they scored the tournament improperly? Or maybe......just maybe, the genius rankings are not accurate.
I would say the Genius Rankings still had the Baldwin factor added into the 160 weight class, but that was not in effect for the actual event. I'm guessing it also didn't taking into account Noblitt going to 103 and the anomaly of him catching Kennedy for the pin. Having the rankings which doesn't factor in those to events would give a somewhat different outcome than what happened at HHC over the weekend. Very, solid win for Columbus East as they found several different wrestlers to gain valuable extra points throughout the day to prove the were the most well rounded team.

With the WEC merger I was really looking forward to a TUF with little guys soon. Hopefully next time around.

I see it as Indiana stepping up a level in the talent our top guys have. Some of it may be due to specialization and some of it just comes from the level of competition and skills improving at a younger age than we have traditionally seen in Indiana in the past. We are no longer just developing those upper level skills through high school competition, but several guys are already starting to improve in them before they reach their freshman year.
I think the academy, RTC, top level camps, more head and assistant coaches with a greater knowledge of the sport, and expanded off season competition has increase the talent level of our under classman to a level that some can now compete for a state title at a younger age than previous. I think their is a reason many of these top level guys come from areas that offer more of those benifits than from areas that do not have as many oppertunties and options. More wrestlers are at a spot where if they have a great tournament they can win a state title before their senior year. I would guess that the amount of none-seniors that have made it to state has increased slightly, as well, over the last 10 years or so.
I think reaching that next level of talent is something Indiana needs to be more noticed on the national level. But it may be causing a slight talent gap or sorts within the state. You are starting to see a fine line between true state level talent and the next level down of good athletic wrestlers that have just developed their skills through high school practice. If we can close this gap through the mostnly high school trained guys wanting to step up theirr abilities it will increase Indiana's overall talent as a state. However, if that talent gap continues to grow we will have several more years of being called the average wrestling state with a few top level guys mixed in.
The question is how do we take the next step to get more of our freshman and sophmores to already have the solid wrestling base to develop more from isteand trying to teach them it during their underclassman years. The difference I see between us and the next level (surrounding states) is many at that level have a larger percentage of under classman who have alread mastered solid wrestling basics instead of walking in the room green and wide eyed hoping to developing into decent wrestlers by their junior and senior year.

What's the name of the Cena movie? Unfortunately I'm bored and may have to watch it.

Not sure HWTs are the best to coach welter-weights but at least they are mobile style big boys. I would have figured they would have gave them light-heavy's. At least they were smart enough not to attempt another HWT competition so soon.

Having conference teams winning multiple sectionals is a good accomplishment. However, in many conference the teams are only split into 2 or 3 different sectional. So the most possible teams from a conference could win would be 2 or 3 sectional titles in a given year. And also the level of competition involved would be a factor for both too. So in some cases looking at just the factor of sectional titles may not tell the complete story on a conference. And vis versa with trying to pick the toughest sectional by the most conference winners. It again depends on how the conference and sectional split up is and the level of competition involved.
-
Something else worth noting may be which conference is the toughest at each weight class.

Number two ranked hiestand of Yorktown pinned by unranked Chamberlain of Evansville central
We do have to remember Chamberlain was on his back against Hiestand before he superman pressed him, rolled ,and grabbed a very tight pinning combination. Not saying he shouldn't be ranked at all, but that circumstance probably does come into play when figuring out where to put him in relation to Hiestand. I will say he did have a very impressive two days at Mooresville and has the potential to make the rankings.

Tyrone Woodley is another recognizable wrestler.
Yup, completely slipped on that one. Definitely a fighter one worth watching.

While I was attending Ball State I know a small group of swimmers from Muncie Burris had to do this because their school did not field an official team. Some of the information posted about about having to participate under your own school is correct. I would say checking with Burris on what they had to do may be the best step to finding out what can be done here.

This name on the main card sticks out: Daniel Cormier

Matt by counter offensive to you mean waiting for your opponents offensive? I think I have a word for that also:
Stalling
Yeah it can be a shade less than stalling if your opponent isn't going to do much. We are talking about the same thing. Basically turning your opponents offensive move into a scoring opportunity for yourself. He shoots, you stop it, and then while he still off balance you shoot/front headlock/scramble to score.
-
Not sure if defensive is the best choice of words considering that would mean not scoring yourself. I don think some wrestlers and coaches are prone to approaching a match in a "Counter-Offensive" style rather than a "Control the pace" style. Both styles I think have advantages and disadvantages. In most matches the "control the pace" style is what you will see from good wrestlers since that is all you would need against an average opponent. I have heard people say that for many wrestlers starting out the "counter-offensive" style will allow for most of them to stay in match longer, build confidence, and give them opportunities to score without messing up. In big match-ups its probably depends on your opponent but clearly the "counter-offensive" style may mean taking a big chance that you can clearly sit back and shut down a top wrestlers first attacks.

9-7 end of match score. 10-7 final after riding time. Burroughs did ride Howe for a large portion of the match. Even if riding time didn't count the amount of time Burroughs spend on top in the middle of the match was a major factor in why Howe couldn't mount a come back.

I'm all for stats, but maligned you sure find a way to take it to a whole new level of evaluation. Glad someone has the mind mapping skills able to work through the numbers needed to analyze wrestling related information because I for one sure can't wrap my head around all of it.
Numberz: I'm not positive, but I believe his information is geared more towards the team dual meet side of things rather than individual wrestler information. There may be some relation between the two, but the differences in how individual vs team scoring works may be where you are running into trouble when figuring out some of the results. However, my guess would be with all maligned data and formula's he probably has something or can figure out something for the individual side of things too.
