  1. If anythings its worth supporting the teams and these young men that may be fighting to be the last team team tournament champions for awhile.  That motiviation in itself should make for some great match-ups.  And if it turns out that this support adds some weight to the final decision then that is a bonus for those that support team state.

  2. The IHSAA should have tried their best to talk the Eastern AD out of making the decision to withdraw the team. Once that conversation was over, the IHSAA  needed to call the superintendent of the school corp to discuss the situation with him/her. If the IHSAA had handled this situation better, none of us would have known anything about it.

Being the IHSAA isn't interested in continuing the team state series I don't see them going above and beyond in this case.  Just look at the last part of Mr. Cox's response to see he can use this as another reason for Team State being irrelevant. The damage through several issue over the past several years that should have been addressed better way before this year.  This issue just give Mr. Cox the final fodder he needs to explain to the rest of the IHSAA board that may be on the fence why its worth dropping the event.  Regardless of if Eastern actually wrestle or not  now the Mr. Cox got all he needed from the incident when he got the e-mail.  Anything further that comes from this issues is basically a moot point.  I saw a slime chance of persuading the other IHSAA board Team State could work with how this years event turned out along adjustments they could make for the future.  Since this event and Mr. Cox's response to it I don't think their is enough that can be shown or said to stop his influence over that group.

  3. Isn't the alternate the loser in the SECOND round, not the First?

Maybe my first post wasn't clear sorry. I mean from regional to semi-state.  At regional the loser of the second round would wrestle for 3rd and 4th place.  Since the new semi-state organization take both of them now the loser of the first round of regional is the semi-state alternate.  I believe the state alternate is the semi-state wrestler who lost to the champion in the second round as you mentioned.  This seems somewhat more of a viable option (though not perfect) than the regional alternate rule.

  4. I'm still waiting on them to figure out a better way to choose an alternate for semi-state.   While it is not the biggest issue I feel it worth at least having the most competitive person fill that void in case of sickness, injury, or something else  Currently the rule is whoever wrestled the regional champion first round which is almost always a 4th place finisher from a sectional.  In reality he usually isn' the next best wrestler in the weight class not to advance considering several 2s and 3s get eliminated in round 1.  Since they will never allow wrestle-back form round 1 just to help with finding an alternate I think its worth changing the order.  The alternate should be the highest sectional finisher not to qualifier for semi-state.  In the event two wrestlers have the same sectional placement then it will go to the one who came from the same sectional as the regional winner.  Seems to me that would allow for a better semi-state alternate than the current format does.

  5. In a normal year we could say put in the 2nd place team, move on with the event, and end of story.

However, as far as the team series goes this is not a normal year.  With the team series on the chopping block anything that disrupts the events is a clear sign of why the IHSAA doesn't think we need it.  Yes, in a regular year Eastern needs to do what is best for their team.  But again this isn't a regular year and even they may not have realize this would shake things up for the future of team state.  Other teams have wrestled dual meets giving up multiple FF for a variety of reason, so its not like it couldn't happen here with what member are left while explaining the situation by saying the rest are out hurt/sick.  While it may be what helps this years squad the side effect is that is will more than likely take a chance away from future squads.  I hope the wrestlers are able to work through any illness (it is a bad year for it) and injury and can continue to compete.  However, I fear the even if Eastern could come back and compete in team Regionals the damage has already been done by letting Mr. Cox know that a team wasn't going to show up for any type of reason.  Out of all the years of the event this one is the one that had to be near perfect for those that want to prove its worth hold on to team state.

  6. When we held it in the past the plan was to try and hold it Thursday if weather prevented travel on Wednesday.  If that isn't an option for certain locations I would guess the IHSAA would ask it be held early the following week over having it on Friday before individual regionals.

  7. One of Maynards problems was getting promoters and or the state fighting board to sanction a his MMA fights that would involved striking.  I believe one of his fights (maybe his only one) was allowed only after they modified the rules to the point of it ending up being limited to mostly BBJ and grappling moves.

Still one heck of a determined individual that won't stop trying something just because people tell him he may not be able to do it.

  8. Are there wrestlebacks or as long as you win your first match you are at least 4th.

The rest of the tournament series breakdown looks like this:

In regional you must win the first round match or you are eliminated.  Then the rest of the matches are to determine the top 4 spots that will advance to semi-state.

At Semi-state you must win the first two matches or you are eliminated.  Then the rest of the matches are to determine the top 4 spots that will advance to state.

At state you must win the first match or your are eliminated.  The rest will wrestle  to determine the top 8 place winners.

  9. I would assume so though I have noticed a few deep weight classes do well in the tournament before.  Every so often one sectional has got four wrestler in one weight class to semi-state (three under the old system).  On a few occasions I have even see three wrestlers from the same sectional weight make state but not sure if four wrestlers from the same sectional have ever made it to state before.

  10. No clue what you are talking about Boot it looks like a normal 1338 to me.  ;D

Actually, I probably broke the system and it was suppose to say TILT.

I'm sure it's not Y2's doing or he would have came up with something much more interesting for me than leet.

  11. Carrol of Yorktown beat L. Welch 1-0 in the finals of Mooresville.  Carrol didn't consed an inch of room for Welch to capitalize on in that match.

Sims lost to Lampe of KY at the MD Holiday Classic.  His family was the one that got an Extreme Home Makeover including a practice room so they could work with other wrestlers at home.
