  1. I haven’t looked at the ranking in depth, but is WIN possibly only pre-season ranking guys bass on their previous college records?  Where as FLO is speculating where they feel guys will fall, including those who have yet to wrestle an official college match.  This may be the reason behind B. Lee not being on WIN’s ranking quite yet.

  2. Seymour Middle School has a mid-term Science and Social Studies position openings due to a retirement.  We also have a MS Head coaching position open with very experienced coach as an assistant.  We are looking for a young coach that would like to work up the ranks and eventually take over the program in the future.

Science should be posted soon.  Social Studies official posted by at least the start of next month.  If you are interested in this position please apply online, as well as, contact our HS Head Coach Todd Weaver at weavert@scsc.k12.in.us to help get you in contact with the right people.

  3. Here was the proto-type design of shirts that almost got made for the club team the one year they did more traveling. IMG_0362.JPG.c0fa0fc515a8c5f9d8a00a4e2abaf461.JPG

Based on the tag at the bottom that team was likely during the 2012-13 season.  I recall that the design being made by one of the members friends.  So maybe finding that person could give you a led to the prior group too.

  4. You may want to talk with someone from the athletic department and/or intramural sports. Not sure who’s jurisdiction a club team actually falls under.  At one point I believe a club had to have a faculty sponsor to hold your practices on Ball State campus and call it a Ball State Club.   Not sure if that’s still true.  Then it’s just finding a way to get the word out and hopefully enough interested people show up to the meeting.   Ball State has had a short-lived club team a few different times in the recent past.  Some times it just been open practice at the school.  Other times some members went to participate in open event or during the ISWA season.  During one season the group actually got enough support to have decent singlets and a larger group traveled to a few college events, but then the team seemed to fall apart the next season. Not sure if those singlets are around the athletic department or they were bought outright by team members.  It could be of use to fret and locate the leadership from that year though since they clearly have a decent idea of some do’s and don’t to help build thing if you want it to go beyond just a open practice.  Time commitment, cost, and leadership graduation often takes a toll on keeping fledgling club teams going long term.  But good luck to you. I’d love to see a long term club team get formed. And I’ll be the first to buy a t-shirt if you get to the point of selling them.

Fix vs. micic in the world finals?🤔 hypothetically say they wrestle, who do you root for??

To go with the strong ties you have to the state or support the goals of your nation.  Man that type of decision once divided families on the battlefield in years past.  But at least for this one I think we all come out as winner if they both just make it to the finals.

Japanese women are like Russian men only better. They've got a line of 5 girls at every weight that would win medals.

True story.  Even with the US women having one of the most talented teams we have had in awhile, Japan is still projected to walk away with the overall title.  It wouldn’t be far fetched to say that Japans backup roster would give our main women’s squad a serious run for their money.

Yes Sarah ended up with a tough draw due to Japans upset throwing off seeding. But this wrinkle in the bracket is likely the type of challenge she still welcomes and will need to embrace with an Olympic year looming.

  7. Just remember SS is not split up by each schools location, but rather by the regionals proximity to the SS locations. It’s not a perfect system but things tend to get strung out when schools are clustered or spread out in different areas across the state to start with.  Then someone has to arrange those schools into somewhat even sectionals.  Then two sectionals have to be put together for a regional.  Regionals are where we sometimes see the crazy gerrymandered looking school location maps.  But it helps to realize it’s based on sectional groups not the schools starting location.  Then you have to clump four regionals together that are located the closest each semi-state.  In a perfect world you would have sectional, regionals and semi-state evenly sepereted around the state but state population, school districts, and school with wrestling teams are not set up evenly across the state to start with.

"I have gotten a lot better since the college season"  - Mason Parris

Mason Parris makes it to Round of 12 as a True Freshman HWT.   To some that would be a heck of a first year accomplishment and worth a little relaxation before the next season.  But Mason instead steps further out of his primary style and takes on a huge freestyle summer season during what would be some of his down time.  This pays off with a much improved skill set, a shiny new world medal, and a huge confidence boost going into the NCAA season.  Never satisfied.

  9. I know it HWT tactics, but still a big leap for Parris.   From relatively no national freestyle experience a short time ago to now having international success.  He may not always look smooth, but he’s  definitely showing improvement in his match awareness and skill set.

And it seems like very few people nationally seems to bring Davison name up as a up and coming college talent. But he’s been on quite an impressive run the last couple years.  I think a lot more people will get to know his name as this college season progresses.

Did hear the name of the Field House is changing . Bankers Life naming rights have expired.

Last I read they are currently keeping the Bankers Life name up until another deal is made.  I guess its less effort than taking take down signs and relabel stuff some generic title until another title is put up.

  11. Greenwood (just south of Indy) is in the process of creating a multi-sports Fieldhouse.  I don’t know how the spec line-up with needs of team state, however it could worth looking into when they finish it up in a few years.

What is the name of your podcast and where can we locate it?

The title of his podcast is at the bottom of the picture. “Wrestling Changed My Life”. It maybe on few different audio stream sites, but one of the bigger ones is the Apple Podcast app.

  13. At this point it’s just speculation what the coming years plan is for Matt.  Sure it seems logical to speculate move to Happy Valley, but we haven’t heard anything official yet.  But let really look at what could occur if Matt does follow the same senior year path as his brothers.

If Matt leaves his senior year for Happy Valley, he gets year of development at the Nittany Lion Wrestling.  That means he as access to top coaches, great practice partners, and the chance to compete in Open events.  All this while still getting finishing high school and be close to his family.  Best case scenario from that is PSU likes the development it sees and offers him some type of scholarship.

But we all know not everything works out best case, and some seem to think a PSU scholarship may not be in the cards.  Well Matt still has options.  He could still choose to attend Penn State as a now in-state student and wrestle there as a walk-on.  Gets a great education, gets to be with his family, and still has a chance down the road to possibly get into the line-up.  Heck maybe even get a partial scholarship.  Or maybe he does ever get on the mat, could possibly even hang it up.  He still gets the education and still is with his family.

Or maybe PSU doesn’t give him an offer but he shows enough development to get offers from other solid DI schools.   Ends up with a good education and gets on the mat at a good DI school.

But again maybe we keep looking at “the glass half empty” result and he gets lost in the shuffle during this year and top college aren’t breaking the door down for him.  Well I’m guessing at least another Pennsylvania school would male him an offer based on his prior national showing, what I suspect is a good academic record, and the fact he’s now considered an in-state resident.  This would still allow him to wrestle and be close to the rest of his family.

If the NLWC was in the plans for this fall I’m sure the Lee family has consider all of these possible scenarios with Matt before deciding on anything.  And from the scenarios mentioned above I can’t see any of them being looked at as a bad outcome.

But the NLWC route is  still an if, since we have not heard anything official yet.  This move could be all just speculation based previous family choice and we see him at EMD.  Can’t say that a bad move.  Or maybe he moves out to a Pennsylvania to be with family but goes to a Pennsylvania high school. Can’t say a year of Pennsylvania high school wrestling would be a bad thing. Or maybe he goes the route of attending a prep school someplace in Pennsylvania.  That could help with some good college offers while being close to the family.  Or heck maybe he goes prep to get in certain classes needed to attend a military academy, and eventually serve his country like his father.  None of these option seem to be a negative either.

To make a long long set of scenarios short, the Lee family history seem to indicate they have made solid decision which given each boy a great opportunity at success. I don’t see that stopping with Matt.  I also hope, despite all the comparison,  Matt knows he’s is his own person and Indiana will be cheering him on regardless of what path path he chooses.
