  1. Yeah I think it was Rulman situation that sent down that rabbit hole initially.
  2. My favorite saying to hear, well the one I chuckle at, during an event is usually whatever the loud mom is yelling from the top of the stands. From a coaches mouth what I’m usually amused by is when I hear a loud SQUEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZEEE!!!!! being belted out from the corner as they are also making some type of hand jesture while doing a power squat away from their chair.
  3. Not sure about a 4x runner up, but when looking at some old records I recall seeing some past wrestlers that had 2nd and 3rd finishes for most of their career. Foggy brain preventing me from pulling a at names out right this convent.
  4. And then was Junior Freestyle champ that summer.
  5. I wore them without too much issue. A few time the contact came out or rolled up in my eye but nothing on a regular basis. I think most kids wear them today and I haven’t notice to many issue with them as a coach. I’d say if you are far sighted having them in would be more useful than not. If you are near sighted you maybe able to get away with not wearing them and then just putting on glasses in between matches.
  6. Momentum from those first two close matches sure energized the team. CP on a heck of a run.
  7. I'm sure we have seen a few cases of that being used similar to the inhaler situation mentioned previously. But, policing those situations is hard and I'm not sure the refs want that judgment on their hands as Y2 mentioned earlier.
  8. Seed 6 and at some weight class there could be 7 drawn into the bracket. I know they changed the rule for the number of matches allowed in a day, but haven't heard anything about the IHSAA allowing for the extra round of wrestle backs because of that match limit change. If not that's 4 or 5 pig-tail/rat-tail matches with several wrestlers that will be 1 and done early.
  9. Jennings County Sectional on hospitality. It's not an opinion, it's pretty much a fact of life.
  10. As in an IHSAA sponsored Team “Dual” State Finals for that 4th week. .
  11. Always love the rhetoric (from coaches or from athletes) of we need to lift to get bigger during the winter so can’t wrestle. Yet they don’t pull that logic with the basketball coach or dedicated BB players and those guys aren’t gaining any real muscle strength in their season. Then see 90% or more of those same athletes not in an organized constant lifting routine over winter. The athletes have the spring and summer to lift and get bigger. Most football guys having a chance to using winter to be in a secondary sport to help work on other athletic aspects and just get a break from solely a football focused mindeset. I feel like football coaches should want to see their guys in something even if it’s basketball or swimming, rather than them wasting away most of the winter doing little with the occasional weight room visit mostly to be social. Sure some of it’s are the football guys using lifting as an excuse because they don’t want to put in the work wrestling required but for the football coaches to not encourage it worse discourage it seems ridiculous. Most football guys could substitute sitting around most of winter and occasionally lifting, especially as a lineman, with working on balance, footwork, hand fighting, and mental toughness through wrestling. Sure they may lose a little weight but it’s mostly needed body fat and have plenty of time to add that weight back on as solid muscle through a consistent lifting routine Spring through Fall. Be nice if many football coaches could recognize this or at least have an open mind to engage the wrestling coaches is a useful dialogue to try to work through some of their hesitations/concerns.
  12. Id go with that being the IHSAA Team State Finals over a ToC if that is the calendar progression.
  13. Yeah I believe it was mentioned earlier that he was going to take a gap year (“grey shirt year”) and then enter IU program next season.
  14. He wrestled in the dual against Princeton in December and that was it. I am not surprised they would hold him out of some early tournaments since those are a grind on your body. So hopefully the lack of seeing him is just a precaution against some lingering issues to have his body ready for some Big10 Duals and end-of-season events.
  15. Yeah I'd say they have a chance at the Rooks match, but after that it's a stretch, especially considering the injury list. Hopefully they come out fighting though for every point. That at least was the positive change Escobedo brought with him when he took over from Goldman.
  16. We have a very solid Middle School upper weight girl that would love to compete at Girls MS State, but currently she does not have a weight class available to her. I agree with Triple B on this one that the highest girls weight is a little too low when compared to the boys MS weights and the boy or girls HS weights. If we are indeed trying to grow the Girls HS division then we need to provide some opportunities for the upper weight girls to get competition before they get to high school.
  17. Thrine has been at 132 the past several weeks including this weekend.
  18. I’d love to see this considering the last few year of talk has been how much more developed the northern half of the state has been in terms of girls wrestling. I guess we can calculate the number of placer after next weeks competition.
  19. It is indeed a strange cutoff but it has to be made someplace.
  20. This last realignment lost them Salem last years 4th place team that was on the younger side of things. Jennings Co gained them along with Franklin and. Indian Creek. Jeffersonville could use New Albany, Floyd Central, and/or Tell City back but that would weaken a different sectional in the process.
  21. I know a few weights at certain locations only had one entry, which would explain why they would advance out of Regional without an added win going on their record. In a couple of girl's cases, they may have been pulled back into Semi-State to fill a hole in a weight class even though they have not had a win this season. As far as why a female wrestler would not have any matches during the season entered into the Regional brackets it may be due to not wrestling any type of varsity match before Girls Regional, not being entered into a girl's event before Girls Regionals, or a coach not entering in the wrestler's record in time. Other than that I wouldn't know for sure.
  22. They ended in 3rd just a few points behind Oklahoma due to the HWT final. 2 Champs, 1 Runner Up, 1 3rd and 2 4th. Not a bad showing for the Hoosiers especially with a couple starters not in the lineup.
  23. Looks like Mooresville is still being processed.
