  1. Well the Coon era didn't last long. McClure 5-1 over Coon.
  2. 149 Roach v Lubeck Lubeck more physical than Roach snapping pulling and controlling front head a lot. 0-0 after 1. Roach defers Lubeck takes down. Again zero riding from IU. 1-0 after 2 Roach looks tired and slow. Roach takes down. Roach good on bottom, aggressive with his positioning and get's out in less than 30 seconds. Roach creates zero scoring opportunities in 3 whole periods. 1-1 OT. Roach tries to run through a Dresser dump but can't finish. 2OT Lubeck takes down. Lubeck out in 6 seconds. Roach goes down and get's out in 3 seconds. 2-2 3OT. Lubeck get's the TD 4-2. Roach can't ride anyone. 157 Walsh v Jordan Jordan in, Walsh gives up the TD trying to be funky. Walsh gets away trying to work front quarter 2-1. Jordan goes down. Walsh forces a leg and rides him out. 2-1 with RT Walsh goes down and get's returned hard 3 times. Walsh getting ridden hard and almost gives up the tilt. Walsh getting dogged and returned hard a couple more times Issac Jordan wins 2-1. Looking more and more "Simmonsish" hanging on a 2on1 forcing legs and cradle riding, still defensively lazy in neutral. Can't get off the bottom. 165 LeBlanc v Cousins Ryan looks alot more agressive against lesser opponents. Still not creating many angles and getting to most of his TD's in this match with straight on pressure. 6-3 after 2. Almost blew the lead 7-6 LeBlanc 174 Irick v Liegel Irick not bad in the 1st, Just a lot of hanging in the ties and straight pressure. Not close to scoring. This IU team as a whole has soft hands and just doesn't handfight well. Irick get's ridden for the entire 2nd. Rides for 9 seconds. This is a bad pattern for the Hoosiers. 6-2 Liegel 184 Sheridan v Hein Sheridan trying to force everything upstairs. Doing a better job of closing the distance without getting too reachy. Can't really get anything going. 197 Goldman v McCall Quick TD by Mccall and Goldman stuck underneath. Goldman has no offense on his feet. No offense on top. Terrible on bottom. I'm not sure he could win Indiana high school state finals this year at 195. 285 Chalfant v Medberry Chalfant looking fresh. OMG big power! Throws him to his back with a body lock and sticks him in the first. 125 Shepherd v Cavaleres Nice TD and finally some tough riding. Good job off bottom. High energy and effort for Shepherd. Good scrambling. Got the early TD and just crushed him with some tough leg riding. Alonzo gets a good backup vs backup win 4-1 133 Caton v Graff All Graff. Super tough matchup for Caton. Good effort. 141 Moody v Thielke Good effort just overmatched. Badgers 23-12 Ongoing themes: Soft hands. Poor handfighting. Not creating angles. No ability to ride or score points from top.
  3. Northern Iowa over Oklahoma 19-17 Michigan over Minnesota 19-14 Pitt over Oklahoma State 19-18
  4. The last I heard Duca hurt his knee while warming up for the NW dual. I guess Shepherd is hurt too? Behind them is a couple Freshman. Sean Brown, and Jon Edwards is on redshirt. Sean Brown: http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/sean_brown_865570.html Jonathan Edwards: http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-wrestl/mtt/jonathan_edwards_819717.html
  5. Good crowd. Strangler rocking the purple argyle. 197 - missed it sorry. Looks like it was a major. 285 Chalfant v Lawson Chalfant looks good. Again starting to gas a little at the end of the 2nd. Nice double can't finish. Got the win but gassed hard. IMO if Adam's conditioning peaks at nationals he could wreck that bracket. 125 Mega get's the forfeit - no Duca again. 133 Caton v Gulibon Caton is getting killed on bottom. 1st period tech fall? Unacceptable. Jimmy Gulibon is not that good. Looked like he gave up. 141 Moody v Retherford Why not Raley? All Zane, Moody trying not to get teched. Retherford really tortures guys with a figure 4. Retherford by near death experience. 149 Roach v Beitz (no Andrew Alton, probably still gassed from the match with Nelsen) Roach showing tripod stance a lot. In on a single can't finish. 0-0 after 1 Beitz goes down. Roach trying to ride. Beitz out in 25 seconds. Roach allowing Beitz to hand on his head, not working angles much even when Beitz is on both knees in front of him. It sure looks like he could have ran down some points there. Roach goes down and get's ridden hard. IU cannot ride and they can't get up. Beitz rides him out and wins 2-0. 157 Walsh v Vollrath (backup. No Dylan Alton either) Vollrath right in on a HC, walsh scrambles but gives up the TD. Walsh working front quarter and get's away on the edge 2-1. Nice throwby Walsh can't finish and it's reversed on replay 3-2 Walsh and puts on the stall ride to finish the 1st. ? chooses neutral. Walsh grinding a 2on1 and controlling Vollrath's trail hand a lot. Walsh looks defensively lazy to me and get's in to funky positions. Walsh goes down get's the reversal 5-2. Walsh working a stall ride and get's reversed. Wins 5-4. 165 Leblanc v DT Ryan get's hurt early. Left wrist? DT takes top off of ijury time, get's the tilt for 2, Leblanc called for stalling in less than a minute. 3 pt NF. Leblanc laying flat and balling up. 5-0 after 1 Leblanc chooses neutral. Snap front head, with little effort to square 7-0. Leblanc totally balling up and stalling on bottom. Get's crabbed for 2 swipes after restart twice 11-0 after 2nd DT takes top. Why not? 15-0. 174 Irick v Brown (why not Jackson?) Irick holding his own in the handfighting. Good effort, good scrambling, no riding, just overmatched with Brown. 12-3 Brown 184 Sheridan v Ruth Comes out aggressive, in on a single can't finish. Good effort. Ruth too much. 16-3 after 2. 18-3 TF. Again, you can't judge the team too much from a win/loss standpoint in this dual. Having said that, the lack of effort in this dual was palpable. IU, for the most part, rolled over in front of a good crowd and squandered a perfect opportunity build a lot of fan interest in the team. If you want people to follow your team, you need to have a good product. I'm confident that fans, win or lose, would get behind a scrappy team with the balls to go out and fight the best team in the country. Everyone knew they were going to take an ass-whooping from PSU, but to go out like that.. with the college wrestling world and potential future recruits watching... was pathetic. This is the Big10 Goldman. Get your team ready to fight hard or get out. Other than that, the things that stick out to me are; an inability to ride when needed, low effort on bottom, not looking to score defensively, flat footed and hanging in the ties. What is the full story on Duca, Raley, Jackson?

  7. New D3wrestle.com rankings have wabash at #9 http://www.d3wrestle.com/?p=6509
  8. Cashe Quiroga looked sharp beating Jimmy Gulibon soundly 9-2. Gulibon ranked #13 by AWN Rankings : http://awn.theopenmat.com/2014/01/awn-division-i-college-wrestling-rankings-january-7-2014/ Quiroga is now 5-3 on the year with solid wins over Spjut (VT) Bruno (Mich) and Gulibon (PSU) Quiroga's D1CW page: http://d1collegewrestling.net/Results_Quiroga.html
  9. It's not the message... it's the delivery. This would probably be better received, and more effective, without all the sarcasm. Having said that, I don't really disagree with any of it.
  10. 285 Chalfant v Telford Chalfant looked good against Telford but he gassed in the 3rd, then gave up the SV TD. If he continues to compete this way and improves his conditioning he's a high AA who's capable of going on a run at nationals. 125 forfeit again, Duca hurt. 133 Caton v Ramos Caton can't get anything going against Ramos. Ramos get's to him at will scoring 5 TD's in the 1st. Turns and pins him with a power half. Caton outmatched big time. 141 Raley v Dziewa Raley nice job sitting the corner defensively and get's the 1st TD then get's reversed. Jeva tough on top, hooks up a rebar tilt and get's a 2 count. 4-2 after 1. Jeva goes down. quick escape. 5-2 Jeva w/ RT. BEautiful duck by Jeva for the TD. 7-2. Rebar tilt again for full backs then escape 10-3. Jeva with the body lock straight to his back get's another 3 pt NF. 15-3. Nice cutback by Raley for the TD. Good action Raley is a game. Raley catches him on a shot and puts him on his back for the TD and 3 NF. Jeva fights off and escapes. Jeva another TD and get's the major. 19-10. 149 Roach v Grothus Roach good handfighting and movement, in on 3 deep shots can't finish. Roach get's taken down and ridden to end the 1st. Grothus goes down and get's out immediately. Roach continues to flash talent and ability. Needs to work on finishing shots, being able to ride when he needs to, and getting stronger. Roach takes neutral in the 3rd. Roach continues to attack and tries to win the match which I like. Tries the headlock. Gets in on a body lock again can't finish. Grothus with the 10-3 major and 2:35ish of RT. 157 Walsh v Kelly (backup 149) (no DSJ?) Walsh comes out angry and starts wrecking Kelly and doesn't stop. 17-6 major. 165 Leblanc v Moore Moore right in on him for the TD. Moore riding hard and making it look easy then cuts him. Moore right in again for another TD. Leblanc getting totally dominated. Moore goes down and escapes in 1 second. Another easy TD for Moore. Moore humiliating Leblanc and toying with him. Leblanc goes down, Moore cuts him. Leblanc straight forward pressure, no angles. poor handfighting. Ryan looks tired and slow and demoralized. He got owned by Moore in every position and it was ugly. 12-3 Moore. Sad performance. 174 Jackson v Evans Evans really working the football tie, Jackson defends well. Jackson looking reshot mostly but moving and handfighting well. Evans working on a serious blue collar takedown but Jackson shows tremendous balance and gets the scramble TD to end the 1st 2-0. Evans goes down and immediately escapes 2-1. Quick go behind TD for Evans. Jackson again flashing crazy talent. 3-2 Evans after 2. Jackson goes neutral. Evans with a crazy reshot TD. 6-2 Evans w/ RT. It goes in the loss column but that's a win for the freshman Jackson in my book. This kid is very promising. 184 Sheridan v Brooks (backup 184 no Lofthouse) Sheridan handfighting hard but no lateral movement. Good scramble by Sheridan btu Brooks gets to him for the TD. Brooks chooses down and escapes immediately. Sheridan dives and Brooks goes behind. Brooks just dogging on Sheridan now. Sheridan looking tired down 7-1. Takes bottom and Brooks goes to work on him again. Returns him hard then cuts him. Brooks with a straight up Iowa style blue collar mauling of Sheridan. 12-3 beatdown. Sam Brooks is not your regular freshman backup. He's a stud and wrecked the #15 ranked kid last week. But 12-3? Another sad performance. Hawks lead 34-4 197 Goldman v Burak Goldman nice underhook to high single can't finish. Couldn't finish same shot against NW. Burak in on a HC good scramble by Goldman. Burak another nice HC and get's the TD and rides out the 1st. 2-0 Burak. Burak takes down and escapes in 6 seconds. Absolutely ZERO riding for IU except for Walsh. Goldman straight forward, no angles and getting reachy. Beautiful post HC by Burak off the reach for the TD 5-0. Rides out Goldman chooses down. Burak cuts him 5-1. Beautiful double by Burak. Goldman flat footed and giving straight pressure, and walks in to the double. Another easy double Burak pouring it on 9-2. 10-2 major decision Hawks dominate 38-4 The good: Walsh looked like he cared and dominated Kelly. Jackson, Roach, Chalfant, Raley wrestled hard and competed. The bad: LeBlanc, Sheridan, Goldman got owned. Embarassing. Ongoing themes: Tough to judge them too much on this dual. One thing that obviously sticks out is the general inability to ride at all. The team needs to continue to get better at creating scoring opportunities and FINISHING shots. Team is starting to look very "Simmonsish" if you know what I mean.
  11. 133 - Caton v McCrystal (fr) Caton controlling ties and moving better. Still not creating much action but get's a nice counter foot sweep for the TD. Then gives up the escape and a quick TD to end the 1st. Mccrystal takes down and escapes. Caton again staying straight on in the ties and get's snapped and taken down. Caton escapes and get's another TD then gives up a reversal. 8-4 to start 3rd Caton goes down. Caton stands up and get's lifted to his back and stuck. Looked better here than he did in the NW dual. More aggressive. More push/pull action in neutral. Still not creating many scoring opportunities. 141 - Raley v Joseph (sr) (not reg starter) Raley aggressive with underhook then get's in on a nice reshot but can't finish. Raley get's a workmanlike TD then gives up the quick escape to end the 1st 2-1. Joseph takes down and get's away with quick changeover. Joseph in again on a single and Raley successfully defends with a heavy front quarter for the third time and get's the go-behind. Again a quick escape. Raley leads 4-3 after 2nd and chooses down. Raley rolls to a short sit and get's a reversal. Escape makes it 6-4. Raley stalls the rest of the match and wins. Huskers lead 6-3 149 - Roach v Sueflohn (jr) Roach is the best handfighter on this team. Pulling and looping well but gives up the TD. Quick escape. 2-1. Another TD for Sueflohn nice escape for Roach to end the period. Sueflohn chooses down and get's out immediately. Roach handfighting well but repeatedly getting beat to the punch by Sueflohn giving up another TD. Sueflohn riding hard now. Roach needs to work on finishing shots. 7-3 after 2nd Roach chooses down. Tough ride, Roach called for stalling on bottom. 8-3 Sueflohn. Huskers lead 9-3 157 - Walsh v Green (jr) (2x AA) Walsh looking unorthodox and Green looking explosive. Good action to start. Nice power double for the TD and Walsh gives up a full set of backs trying to scramble and elevate him through. 5-0 after 1. Same position from Walsh collar tie and controlling elbow trying to slow down Green. 5-0 after 2. Green takes down. Walsh forces a leg and get's a quick stalemate. Nice mat return and again forces a leg. Walsh get's high and gives up reversal then escapes. 7-1. Walsh is dangerous, but I'm not sure if it's because he's funky, unorthodox and likes to take risks, or if he just doesn't care. Huskers lead 12-3 165 LeBlanc v Wilson (so) Leblanc straight on pressure, stuck in front head, good defense. Nice inside trip to single from a 2on1 for the TD. Leblanc tough ride leads 2-0 looked like ref missed some backs there on the crab ride. Leblanc takes down and working hard to get away. Wilson tough ride but just hanging on a claw. Good work on bottom from Leblanc and he get's away 3-0 but Wilson has RT. Wilson takes down. Leblanc tough on top here. Two weird homer stalemates and a stall call that Wilson never got by doing the same thing. Leblanc with a good 3-2 win over an NCAA qualifier. This is a nice measuring stick for Ryan at this point. Good mat work in this match and better intensity. Still has soft hands in neutral. Huskers lead 12-6 174 Jackson v Kokesh (rsjr) (2x AA) Jackson NICE low single off the whistle but cannot finish. Another nice shot by Jackson for the TD. Quick escape. Jackson moves well and is very slick and get's to his low shot for the third time. Kokesh in on a reshot and Jackson just get's overpowered. 3-2 Kokesh and he chooses down and get's a quick reversal. 5-2. Escape by Jackson. IU looking way better on bottom in this dual. 5-3 after 2. Jackson chooses neutral. Jackson showing nice scrambling ability too. I really like this kid but he struggles against bigger guys. Kokesh is not the most powerful 174 and he is giving him all he can handle. Kokesh wins 6-3 with RT but Jackson is truly a bright spot for IU. Huskers 15-6 184 Sheridan v Dudley (rsfr) Sheridan comes out pretty intense and scrappy but straight on and looks "reachy." Sheridan in on a shot and out the back but get's stalemated. Straight on pressure and get's a last second double to end the 1st. 2-0 Sheridan chooses down. Dudley with the 2on1 tilt for 3 backs, rolls him through then locks up the cradle and sticks him. Sheridan wrestled better here as well. Better intensity, better shots but not good enough. Dudley is a stud prospect but this match tells you a lot about where Sheridan stands in the BIG10. Huskers 21-6 197 Goldman v Johnson (jr) (backup behind Kolb) Goldman wrestling square. Push/pull looking to dig underhooks. Goldman creates zero angles or scoring opportunities in the 1st. Johnson starting to get at him with fakes and motion. Johnson takes down, escapes and get's quick TD. Should have been a reversal actually. Johnson riding tough working the near wrist on the bad shoulder. Goldman getting pounded on bottom and Johnson rides him out leads 3-0 with RT. Goldman wisely takes neutral. Goldman picking it up and gives up a go behind. 6-1 Johnson with RT. Goldman shows nothing and get's beat handily by Nebraska's back up. Not good enough. Huskers 24-6 285 Chalfant v Jensen (rsfr) Adam looks huge. Working underhooks and using heavy hands. Good scramble to a go behind. Chalfant with the tough ride and leads 2-0 after 1st. Chalfant takes down, tripods and get's the escape. Jensen get's to the leg but Chalfant just overpowers him with the underhook. Adam get's double unders and Jensen bails giving up the TD. 5-0 after 2 with RT. Jensen goes down. Jensen up and Chalfant circles to the double, lifts and returns him. Jensen escapes. Adam straight forward, get's to the leg, finishes and cuts him. Another TD and Chalfant get's the major. Great effort from a heavyweight. Heavy hands and enough risk taking to put up points. I like the way Chalfant is wrestling at this point. ANother bright spot for IU. Huskers 24 Hoosiers 10 . Ongoing themes: Soft hands, No angles, Not creating action/scoring opportunities in neutral, No tough riding, no 125? Bright spots: Raley seems hungry. Roach is getting to his shots. Better intensity overall. Jackson flashing more and more talent. Chalfant wrestling great.
  12. Duca alleged to have hurt his knee warming up against NW. Maybe they didn't want to risk the future seeding criteria with Duca less than 100%? Just a guess.

  15. Little brother made some waves at midlands. He's legit.
  16. You think brands should sit Evans? Gable had to institute the count to ten rule for the brands brothers before shaking hands after a match.
  17. Beat #1 ranked Johnny Sebastian from Bergen Catholic NJ at the clash 6-4 in OT. http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/251122-Clash-XII/video/728438-195-Johnny-Sebastian-Bergen-Catholic-vs-Bobby-Steveson-Apple-Valley
