Has some obvious holes but I like where this is going. There are a couple HS junior studs nearby that would fit nicely: Real Woods (Montini) 120 and Anthony Madrigal 126 (OPRF). Or get Woods and Lewan (138) as a package deal from Montini.

  2. We were talking about this all weekend, to be on the Olympic team you just need one good day. Hats off to guys like Molinaro and Cox who came out of nowhere basically to win a spot. Humphrey rolled his ankle in his first match and wasn't the same afterward. What would have happened if something like that happened to Burroughs? I'm not calling for a change, but it makes you realize how important peaking and just having things fall your way can have you on the Olympic team or at home.

I'm calling for a change. The OTT is just stupid.

  3. I saw improvement in all three positions. Particularly bottom. They were just horrible on bottom for a couple years. I can see the stranglers influence on top. More guys using that jam ride, hooking ankles and elevating etc. Another subtle improvement I noticed was in hand fighting, moving guys, creating action and getting angles. Again, they were just dismal at getting a corner on guys for a long time. Luke Sheridan for example, straight on pressure and couldn't get off the tracks to save his life.

  4. I'm held off long enough commenting on this topic, but it is time after reading an email tonight.

So I ask a kid about joining the Gorillas for the Scholastic Duals. The response I got was, well I don't think I can because I need to get my two local tournaments in. Why is that you ask? Well this young man wants to take the SAT/ACT...to get into college maybe. This young man wants to go to Prom and not have to spend the weekend in a gym at the same time. If he just does those two things, he only  has three open weekends left to qualify for freestyle state. Don't forget about spring break or possibly even some heathen want to have a free weekend in the spring.

ISWA, you have once again dropped the ball and are hurting the kids more than anything. The Scholastic Duals is a great event for kids to wrestle top competition, but instead you are forcing kids to decline so they can wrestle two MAYBE three matches a local tournament.

What will it take for people on the board to have common sense? Even the old method of placing top 4 is better as you only needed one tournament.

I'd probably get more out of talking to a wall, but I just want everyone to read this and see it for themselves instead of a private meeting in Indy.

If you're truly this concerned, one would think you'd have put more thought in to crafting your message. A condescending smartass never changed any minds.

  5. Sadly, from talking to several folks being recruited or in the know, this absolutely seems to be the case with Tanelli.  Some are not understanding what they are doing with the lower weights, development,

washing guys out, etc. It is not going unnoticed on the recruiting trail.

Now for the big guys, Tyrel Todd has been a great hire. A stud recruiter, mature, and is perceived as a very good teacher. Well thought of by the coaches I talk to.

    Examples or BS

  6. Obviously the goal for IU wrestling is not to be competitive or changes would have been made by now. That doesn't sit well with me and it stinks of cowardice. I'd settle for stagnation in the 6-9 range. If this is the best you could do as a coach, and you cared at all about the program, you'd step down. This crap wouldn't fly at a real program for over a decade.

  7. I really don't see anything wrong with what Chad did or said post-match. He's been on a tear at the national level for years and won BIG matches, and he wrecked Indiana for the 4th time and won ANOTHER huge match to do it. If you can't publicly say "I'm the man" after doing what he did in high school, when can you? Down 4-0 off the bat? The kid was stone-faced the whole time and made it happen when he got an opportunity.

  8. The worst sportsmanship I've seen in the NCAA tournament was from Brent Metcalf vs Caldwell in the NCAA finals.    Brent Metcalf doesen't want to give his opponents the satisfaction of seeing him celebrate.  But he turns to the biggest Jackass when somebody beats him.    Not the best example of you most humble guy.

On a side note,  I was in attendance at the NCAA finals in St Louis that year, and by chance my tickets were in the Iowa section which was the largest section at the meet, so I  was surrounded by a lot of Black and Gold.   I was with my sons, one who was attending Ohio State at that time.  Note Iowa had a small lead going into the finals ahead of the Buckeyes, I think about 6.5 points.  OSU needed two wins from Reese Humphrey and Pucillo (who wrestled Herbert) to pass Iowa and also  needed Metcalf to lose to win the National title.   My son's girlfriend was roommates with Hump's girlfriend, so Reese and him hung out and were  buddies.    We had our OSU gear on and were pulling for Hump.   When Hump was up, the whole Iowa section, gave him the a very loud boo and we took it personally.   We didn't like it and let some of the Iowa fans know.   But unfortunately,  Hump got upset by the MSU kid, which mathematically eliminated OSU from the team title.

Of course Caldwell surprisingly comes out and beats the crap out of Mefcalf.  It wasn't even close and ended Caldwell's 50+ win streak.   Needless to say we were being loud and obnoxious about it in the middle of the  Iowa section, since they booed Reese and all.    And when Metcalf assaulted Caldwell at the end of the match,  we let IOWA fan know.    We were over the top and yelling, DQ him and throw him out.   Iowa fan was mad at the loss, and they didn't like the obnoxious OSU fans in their section cheering Mefcalf's demise and suggesting that they DQ their best wrestler.    Of course this would of took his points away and given OSU the national title.       After that,  a few angry Iowa fans got in my face and requested that we go sit in another section.  I think a guy was ready to throw down,  but noticed my 9 year old son, and backed off.  It was all pretty exciting.

To finish, they did take a team point from Iowa for the unsportsmanlike, which gave OSU the possibility to win if Pucillo pinned Herbert.   But that's too much to ask and didn't happen.   We stayed in the Iowa section for the entirety, and received many awkward glances the rest of the night.

If you start your celebration with time on the clock and you get cracked, you deserve it. Which is exactly what happened in the GODcalf/Caldwell match.
