  1. I don't see Quiroga or Ayersman as AA's at 133. 133 is stacked this year and loaded with seniors.
  2. It's always a wow when a redshirt freshman beats a guy who has placed at big 10's twice and AA'd. I kinda think it means Quiroga may have hit a wall, more than it means Ayersman is a shooting star at this point. The question I have is can either of these guys handle 141 because Sabotello and Lawrence don't look very promising.
  3. Raley beat Nate Skonieczny and owned Tyson Dippery and ended up 2nd. Roach and Molloy did OK. They came close to wrestling one another in the consolations. Neither placed Walsh won. Nobody significant on his side of the bracket. Drummed Languis from OSU in the finals 7-1. LeBlanc got 3rd. Lost to Morelli from Pitt. Irick didn't place but beat the kids he should beat. Sheridan got dropped first round came back to 3rd. Goldman didn't place but beat the kids he should beat.

  5. CHICAGO – With the Big Ten seeking its eighth straight national championship, BTN’s 2013-14 wrestling coverage, presented by returning sponsor Cliff Keen Athletic, will be the most extensive in network history. The television schedule includes a dual between Penn State and Iowa, winners of the past six national titles, a Monday night meet in primetime between Ohio State and Purdue, and live coverage of the entire Big Ten Wrestling Championships hosted by Wisconsin. Although Penn State and Iowa were not originally scheduled to meet as a result of the Big Ten’s rotating slate of eight regular-season duals, the two schools agreed to arrange a non-conference dual. The two schools have met every year since 1982. Additionally, a record 48 events will be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN). A large number of those streamed events will also be televised on delay as Student U. BTN’s coverage of the regular season begins with Duke at Purdue, which will stream live on BTDN at 3 PM ET on Nov. 16. With the passionate wrestling community continuing to grow, more and more fans are turning to BTN as their home for Big Ten wrestling. Last year, BTN’s wrestling coverage saw a double-digit increase in ratings. “Wrestling attracts an extremely engaged and enthusiastic fan base,” said BTN President Mark Silverman. “With the strength of the Big Ten in the sport, the audience will only continue to grow.” According to InterMat’s rankings, the Big Ten is expected to open the 2013-14 season with the three top teams in the country with No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 Iowa and No. 3 Minnesota. Nebraska and Wisconsin are also included in the top-10, at seven and eight, respectively. The final session of the 2014 Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be televised live at 2 PM ET on Sunday, March 9. With nine ranked individuals heading into the season, Penn State will look to capture its fourth-straight Big Ten Championship under Coach Sanderson. Minnesota and Iowa finished second and third, respectively, at the Big Ten Championships last season. Ryan Pieper qualified at 174 but has also graduated, leaving Brandon Preston as the only returning qualifier on what promises to be a young team. Preston moves up to 133 for his junior year and will be looking to repeat as a Midwest Regional champion in 2014. Outside of upperclassmen like Preston and Mack Green (moving to 285 this year), the team will feature as many as seven freshman and sophomores in the lineup as Trine enters their tenth year of varsity competition.

With Lefever back to lead the way, the team should be able to have another good year and work to climb the national team rankings with a strong dual meet team. Four regional placewinners return, including the previously mentioned Lefever, as well as his brother Conner Lefever who was 4th and 5th place finishers Tim Locksmith and Austin O’Neal. With that many starters back, breaking into the lineup will be a challenge, but a strong freshman class could be up to the challenge and could see as many as three Lefevers in the lineup, as Fargo runner-up Riley Lefever will challenge for the nod at 184. With national qualifier Jake Strausbaugh gone to graduation, the fight for 149 will be contested by as many as five incoming wrestlers, giving the team a great chance to be solid from top to bottom and win a lot of duals.

Pedigo has made steady improvements in his development and looks finish his career with a strong senior campaign. Sophomore 133-pounder Kalib Jackson was 16-12 last year but finished the season strong. Jackson is a dual-sport athlete and started the season late because of football. Through January and February he avenged several early losses and could be in the mix in the Midwest Regional. After losing five seniors to graduation last spring, Manchester will be green in 2013-2014. The Spartans will fill seven weights with freshmen. Despite their youth, this group of freshmen are talented and one of the best recruiting classes for Manchester in the last 4 years. Illinois state runner-up Rob Lane will highlights this group and will likely earn the spot at 149. There will be great competition at 165 and174 as the Lauffer, Floor, and Jones battle for starting roles. Indiana state qualifier Ty Webster will help solidify the top of the line-up as well.
