    Would LOVE to see this bracket play out. However as I've said in the past we will have to wait for the big tournament upstairs to see this happen. My .02 cents there's only one NCAA 2xer. I also realize there are years attached to said wrestlers and those championships don't mean squat in this format.

    Sorry, I just saw this. Schneider Mt. Vernon Posey all day every day. He didn't wrestle outside of the season because he was too busy farming, so he didn't have a lot of opportunities to wrestle out of state. He would mop the whole bracket. Haters gonna hate but it's true.

    As a competitor obviously I would want to win every match but I wonder if guys that are in that situation might hold back a move or technique until the state finals. I realize that is a BIG gamble in some of these classes where there are 3 or 4 guys that could win the thing but if it were 2 guys that were head and shoulders above the rest I wonder if one would keep something in his back pocket and spring that trap under the lights?

    He has to do what is best for him. I was looking forward to watching him this year though. Good luck CC, Indiana will have their eye on you the next few years. I'm sure you'll make us proud.

    Not saying he was a bad wrestler or coach but I couldn't stand listening to that guy commentate a match. Still can't get that voice out of my head.

    As stated, I've been wrong before. If Mendez gets a shot at them prior to the tournament, he might just come up with a game plan. Yes he's a true freshman, yes we are talking about some of the best in the biz, but I think he's got a shot. Still wouldn't mind a redshirt though.

    I'm an MD fan through and through but in my opinion NCAA better watch out for J.M.! If they start him I say 4xer. I've been wrong before and will be again but if he stays healthy he is a dangerous opponent!

    I can think of at least three maybe four schools in our conference right now and possibly even five that would fit in the 4A bracket of the team State wrestling. Castle beat MD 2 years in a row several years ago as did Evansville Reitz again several years ago. But for the most part it's been all MD for the last 40 years in this section of the state. My answer to your dilemma is to create an Open Class where an unlimited amount of schools can enter. After that the 4A schools can have their class the 3A schools can have their class and so on and so forth but to alienate Cathedral and MD because they are private says to me you don't want to wrestle them because you don't want to lose to them. You can run the recruiting angle all you want but any kid anywhere in the state of Indiana is allowed to go to any school they want to they just have to get there on time pretty much every day. The recruiting bias should be dead by now. If your kids want to go to MD or Cathedral or Indianapolis Park Tudor they are allowed to go there with no restriction upon recruiting. Now the deal that happened with Christian Carol was one bad deal that was bad blood between the old athletic office and his new school but hopefully there are no issues this year for him. As far as showcasing one team over another think of it this way if you are playing travel baseball and you have an A tournament a B tournament and a C tournament and you are going to have a "showcase tournament" aren't you going to put your best teams in the A class?

    The harm is you take away 2 really great teams from the 4A division. Teams that could very well drop out of the tournament all together if they don't wrestle up. Both of these teams have their highs and lows at times but still manage to qualify for 4A and are regularly are in the mix for a title. If you mandate that they stay in their classes they'll be wrestling in Ohio or Missouri or somewhere else that weekend instead of showcasing Indiana wrestling.

    Also you have to factor in the size of the players in football. If you put 2A MD up against WC or Penn you would see a VAST size difference among players. Wrestling is a different animal, same size contestants. Also if you put MD where they align in the wrestling team state there will be no contest. I don't make the decisions coach Schaefer would be the one to make the decisions but why would MD spend the time there when they could go find better competition somewhere else? I think a better option would be to have an Open Class. Then have the designated size schools in their classes. That is if MD no longer had the option to move up.

    I understand what you are saying but I disagree with any talk of putting MD, Cathedral, or any other private school in their own class just because someone thinks they can't beat them because they are a private school. Wrestling is the fairest sport there is there are only two contestants and they both weigh the same amount. If you want to create an open class for the team title I would be okay with that but do not alienate the private schools just because the public schools don't want to wrestle them.

    I don't think you know exactly where I'm coming from. I'm referring to only MD when I talk about a 500 kid school competing with a 1200 kid school. A team that willingly goes to the top class to wrestle. If someone is saying we should have a private school class because their school is 2 or even 10x the size of MD and they can't beat MD I say "What more do you want MD to do?" As far as your situation goes you should do right for you and your team (you are probably already doing that). In general I would not expect a 500 kid school to jump up and wrestle Ben Davis or Penn or WC at team state. I say don't mess with the system that is in place unless IHSAA wants to take it and do a class team state as long as a school can willingly move up. However I don't see IHSAA taking it, they already had team state at one time and then stopped doing it for a number of reasons, that subject is probably best for another thread.

    I'll tell you what go make a division for whatever criteria you want. Put whatever schools want to be in this division, be it a huge school that is in the middle of nowhere or the small school that can't find the right competition or whatever criteria you want to make whatever school you want a state champ. Put all of them together and see who comes out on top and call them a state champ. But I can guarantee you if you pull Cathedral or MD out and put them in a private school division they will not be satisfied calling themselves a state champ unless they wrestle the top schools in the state. And I would bet that Crown Point Brownsburg or Center Grove isn't going to call themselves a state champ unless they wrestle Cathedral or MD. If you want to make it as Fair as you can for those that can't quite get there go make a division for them and leave us alone.

    OMG! Just go wrestle! Quit whining if a kid goes to a public or private school. You guys should know by now it doesn't matter what school you go to it matters how much off season work you're doing. 4 momths in a HS room isn't going to make a state champ wrestler or team. Look at the top tier guys and schools they are not just wrestling in season. I cannot believe we have people complaining from a 1200 person School that a little 500 person School is beating them. Tell your kids to get to work you are not going to get there by just wrestling in season. And if they're better than you then so be it if someone is better than us we don't complain that they should be in a different class we are going all the way to the top to find the best competition we can find. What else do you want from a 500 kid school? I thought wrestlers didn't make excuses!

    Man that sucks. Just trying to get better and something like that happens. Although rare for our sport things like that happen, I don't know the young man and probably have never seen him wrestle but I hope he heals quickly and completely.
