  1. MD / Central.... The BIG one I believe in in '93 at MD was absolutely insane. Hook tells the story quite well but as a Sophomore wrestling JV in front of a packed house it still sends chills down my back, I have goose bumps typing this. I can't remember who took the mat first but I can remember taking a warmup lap atound the mat, the sound was deafening. As we ran past the central crowd there was a small contingent of former MD wrestlers front and center on the visitor's side. All the old MD guys had their old gold warmup shirts on and you could feel the boos from the Central crowd along with the cheering section right at matside. I realize this is JV we are talking about but it was wrestling heaven! MD JV won the match handily, we had one guy lose and he was dejected. I felt sorry for him but proud that we won. The hard part after the match was that we didn't have a seat to sit in after the JV match. We tried sitting in the isle but the athletic director told us we couldn't do that either so it was standing room only for us little JV guys! Good times! That rivalry has since died down a bit but those memories will last a long time that was a migical year for a Mater Dei team that wasn't supposed to do much!
  2. Castle/EMD is an interesting one, I would say during the regular season in any sport I played in we wanted to beat Castle pretty bad, but come state weekend I was usually hoping Castle would win unless they were playing/wrestling us.
  3. I don't think fans will be disappointed with the Ford Center. Plenty of restaurants to try, all good seating I can't speak for hotels but we have plenty. MD/Reitz/Central/Evansville North and the rest of us down here would make awesome hosts. I and others can give you plenty of info on good places to eat, I really do think the venue is perfect.
  4. We must wrestle the grapevines off to see who is correct!
  5. You heard it here first, MD takes the Evansville Central sectional.
  6. That was one of Coach Goebel's favorite phrases! We'd be live wrestling at practice and you hear him yell that out! He might still use that at football practice!
  7. I heard a story once, the year was 1991 or 1992. I was eating lunch between rounds at the MD Holiday Classic, a few friends and I were at a BBQ place nextdoor to MD, really small dining room, a guy in there eating recognized us as MD underclassmen and he told us the following story: Lance Ellis ALMOST lost his undefeated record due to some antics at a no name match his sophomore year, whoever he was wrestling actually scored a takedown on him. Lance was so unbelievably mad that he reversed the guy, put him in a cradle, picked him up, walked over to the scorers table, and set the kid on the table. Ref almost disqualified Lance for that stunt. Can anyone here confirm this story?
  8. The Flo subscription is definitely a sore spot with me, I was not happy with the team state feed. One question though, did we have to bring it to IHSAA's attention or were they already working on an alternative location? Last I read on the other thred it seemed we didn't know where they were on the subject but I stopped reading that thread a long time ago.
  9. In no particular order: D.J. Radnovich Matt Caughlin Blake Maurer Craig Weinzapfel Greg Schaefer Joe Lee Steven Bradley Pat Casidy
  10. As much as I would love it to be in Evansville it really does need to be in Indy at Gainbridge. Evansville would do a great job but it's not really fair to the far northern wrestlers to come all the way down here and the same for the southernmost wrestlers to travel all the way to Ft. Wayne.
  11. Ohhh man I lost track of this conversation just figuring it would have zero chance to go to Evansville. This would be heaven on earth! Please God let it be Evansville! I mean come on stranger things have happened, the Cubs won a WS and come to find out Democrats are just as crooked as Republican's, who would have thought? It's time for Evansville to host the 2024 IHSAA Wrestling State Championships!
  12. I paid a bunh of money to watch today. Not anyone's fault but track/flow. Won't happen again.
  13. Team Garcia must be sleeping. I would have bet there would be a few comments from one of our most colorful posters. Good luck to all on this MOST wonderful exhibition of Indiana wrestling!
  14. Hook, please elaborate. I thought the controversy was around what set of weights the duel was going to be wrestled with. If my memory serves me right Kentucky wrestled different weight classes than Indiana. The "agreement" was never made prior to the match in what rules to go by. Tight match and both teams claimed victory. What hand did Boots play in the day? I could be way off on my info on that but that's what I thought I read in a book that some really smart guy wrote.
  15. I think MD has lost the classic before so hold on to your walkers before we enter this tournament. I could be wrong but just sayin'.
  16. MD mid season backup entry Rob Mallory placed 6th in '98. Rob replaced a very accomplished wrestler named Tim Scott who I believe blew out his knee. Tim still came to help out at practice as much as he could.
  17. Remember the song from Denis Leary? "I'm an ass hole an ass hole an ass holi oli olll"
  18. Truly state placement is probably most people's realistic goals. As we all know that's not easy, I believe there are a lot of dedicated wrestlers that don't make it out of SS. I believe it is an accomplishment. Opinions may vary.
  19. I forget when we stopped doing dual state championships. Was this the year of the MD vs Hobart match? MD was a hard team to beat in a dual. Not bulletproof but most team members were at least Regional qualifiers, the Castle Regional was always loaded that made it hard to get to Semistate.
  20. First, congratulations on your achievement, some never crack 50. In the past I don't think schools wrestled as many duals in a year as we do or have in the recent past. So apples and oranges as far as how many seasons. I would think Goebel would be close to the top as far as match for match fastest to 50.
