  1. And, the creepy post of the day goes too.... ^
  2. That's pretty interesting to see Stein at 197, he must be hitting the weights pretty hard
  3. That's awesome Nick! What school are you going to be coaching at?
  4. I saw that Justin's name is on the Indiana Tech roster but didnt' see Jarred's. Is he attending there this year?
  5. http://www.dbq.edu/udathletics/news.cfm?ID=2150&team=Wrestling I figured as Hoosier wrestling fans, you guys would be interested in reading this. I know I am absolutely thrilled to be around this guy and soak up his knowledge. In my opinion, a D-1 school would be fortunate to get Mike Mena as a head coach, and for the University of Dubuque (a D-III school) to be able to bring him in as an assistant is a gift from God!
  6. I would say it changes some things. I have no idea what Mater Dei has coming back, but if they are solid they will have a chance at 14 sectional champs... Has that ever been done?
  7. Will they be eligible for the DII nationals next year, or will they still be under the probationary period?
  8. Pretty Interesting to see Reitz and Mater Dei in separate sectionals
  9. Anybody know if he's gonna be back at 165 or is he going up to 174? Or how he is recovering from his knee injury?
  10. Lots of interesting matchups tomorrow. Hasseman has Quinten Wright first round , that should be fun. Jordan Oliver bumped up a weight has Metcalf first round, and I'm sure Metcalf's size advantage should come into play but Oliver's quickness could present a bad match for Metcalf.
  11. Looks like there might be Sliga-Atwood matchup in the consolations... If it happens, who ya got?
  12. That 145.5 weight class is stacked! It should be exciting to see what Tsirtsis can do against guys like Ness, McCauley, Caleb Ervin and others. Also, pretty excited to see what Sliga can do at 185
  13. I just read an article that said this was the lowest attendence for the state basketball finals ever with 22,820
  14. Absolutely! I agree that the quality is very high in D3. As far as high school credentials go, we have several state champs and state placers from various different states on our team. On the other hand, there are guys like me that never even made it to state in high school that through hard work and dedication can improve enough to make the starting lineup. Here at the University of Dubuque, we really focused on having well-rounded individuals. We want guys that want to improve physically, mentally, and spiritally, and I think it is a great place for that! I think another aspect is the athlete has to have the confidence in himself to contact a college if he thinks he may be interested in. I can tell you it is very hard trying to find the right fit when searching through thousands of wrestlers. Furthermore, I have found that the wrestlers that want to come here on their own without having being constantly called and talked into it, have had better all around success. I hope this helps, and would be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
  15. As a former Hoosier who would like to see Indiana kids get more opportunity to wrestle at the next level, I have decided to start a recruiting section focused just on the great state of Indiana! We already have coaches that focus only on Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin. So, I say why not Indiana?!? I am currently coaching at the University of Dubuque, a Division III school in Iowa. Now to help this process, I will need email addresses from as many coaches around the state as I can get. So, you can either send me a PM on here or email me at ccook@dbq.edu. Furthermore, if you are an athlete interested in learning more about our school, feel free to email me as well. Also, you can check out our website at www.dbq.edu if you would like and fill out the questionare on there. Starting out this process, I will need a lot of help from coaches and athletes that aren't afraid to make first contact. We have a great program here, and I hope that we can get some Hoosiers on board that want to take their wrestling career to the next level! Chad Cook University of Dubuque ccook@dbq.edu

  17. I would say it's not a takedown in high school, but it is a takedown in college... Bad call in my opinion
  18. I know that D3 schools outside of Indiana want nothing to do with the Indiana state tournament, and I would assume it's because of the reason that Y2 said earlier of having 224 rather than 448 wrestlers there and the system to get there doesn't necessarily get the best wrestlers there.
  19. I think this hits the nail on the head. There is a reason why there was only 1 kid that went to high school in IN that qualified for D3 Nationals, while states like IL had 21.
  20. Anyone know what Illinois line-up will look like? I have a buddy out here in Iowa that thinks IL is God's gift to wrestling, so I'd like to see how much I can take him for betting on this dual.
  21. I agree that using fundamental basics are the key to winning, and I also agree that the single, double, etc. haven't changed. But, the details of the setups and finishes and defending have changed dramatically. In my opinion, these details are the difference between a regional qualifier and a state champ. If you think technique hasn't changed, watch some film of Dan Gable wrestling. As great as he was, it looks very sloppy compared to today's wrestlers
  22. Just to tie this into Indiana wrestling, Blake Rueger from Reitz beat Morse last year at FloNationals
  23. So, you think that technique hasn't developed at all since the 80s??
  24. Anybody know what his college plans are?
