  1. Below are the voting members of the committee.

    IHSAA Team State Selection Committee

    Attendance

Sam Riesen (East Noble, Secretary), Greg Ratliff (Edgewood, Past President), Jason Cook (Hobart, Vice President), Jake O’neill (Warren Central, Past President), Dane Fuelling (Indianamat Rankings Coordinator), Eric Myers (Jay County), Alex Johns (Avon)

I do not believe that it would be right to put any of what was discussed out on the board. I do however think its important to note that voting was done by a committee of coaches from around the state, it was not one individual who had the final say. It was voted on after open discussion of all teams amongst the group.

Secondly there is still an open spot in each class for next season.  If a team is deserving of that last spot they have the opportunity to earn it at the start of next season.

  2. My wife asked me this while watching the Big 10's and I did not know the answer... Are there any officals who where really good wrestlers in high school/ college (semi-state/state)?  I assumed the answer was yes, but I didn't know off of the top of my head, so does anyone know the answer?

This is correct. The girls events are under IHSAA rules, referees and weigh in procedures/points system. Though somehow not “varsity” per se. So you burn weigh in points, but can’t count the win/loss record for these events in seeding the boys sectionals. I have 8 girls on the team and this really doesn’t bother me. There were multiple college coaches recruiting at each of the girls events this year. The girls got great experience and exposure doing these events with some top notch college programs (invitations to visit, camps, RTCs, workouts, etc). If we keep building those kinds of opportunities for the girls, I’ll be exceedingly happy.

Our sectional was told that the records should be counted.

  4. They counted at our sectional.  Its a really interesting situation.  In theory a girl could be 20-0 in girls events and get the #1 seed at their weight in sectional.  For that reason I am against counting the girls event records toward the varsity events.

It would be somewhat similar to counting a wrestler's JV record toward their varsity record. That is not to take away from the girls event in any way, just to say that it is wrestling outside of the normal varsity schedule.

While writing this I began to wonder... if two wrestlers were to face off during the season at a JV event would that count for a head to head win in sectional seeding?  I do not know that I have ever seen that situation come up.

  5. Ok so the big question... what teams around the state haven't been able to practice?  More importantly who is not able to practice on Friday?

East Noble has been off the last two days.... practice tomorrow is still up in the air.

ACAC tourney had 4 out of 7 teams that participated in 1A and 2a team state last year! Small school wrestling at its finest in that conference…

Fun fact, that I believe is true lol.  The ACAC's neighbors to the North, the  NECC is the only conference in the state that has had a team in the championship match in  every year of the team state.

  7. Next season all of the NE8 schools will be looking for four duals as we are switching the format of our current regular season dual schedule.

I would argue that all 8 of the teams field competitive rosters that would be a solid addition to most teams schedules. Most usually have full rosters, and several JV kids.

    The NE8 consists of:

    Bellmont

    Columbia City

    Dekalb

    East Noble

    Huntington North

    Leo

    New Haven

    Norwell

  8. I saw that CC and Jay County are doing a girls only dual this week. Just curious as to the number of girls teams around the state have?  It would be cool to get more events like the CC vs JC dual together. At East Noble we have 6 out for the team. 106, 120, 132, 132, 138, 152
