  1. What are some of the big potential match-ups this weekend?
  2. Having coached at a small school, and a medium sized school I think the following are possible advantages to the small school. More one on one focus from coaching staff. Better chance to be varsity for four years. Better recognition for "smaller" accomplishments- one the wall for sectional champ at small school, state placer at bigger school. I was able to have more coaches at the smaller school. If all of the athletic programs are solid and on the same page, the athlete is in a great strength and conditioning program year round... this is generally the same at EN as almost all of our wrestlers are 2-3 sport athletes. On the team side our teams have generally been better at EN, but at Busco it was easier to get a random kid from the hallway to fill in if we needed a weight class filled than at EN. Winning team state is more attainable at a small school imo , where the competition is not as dependent on having a lot of state level kids, and more on just producing a squad of 14 solid wrestlers.
  3. This topic moved me to make a needed website for our team history lol. East Noble Wrestling (google.com) East Noble top 5 has to go Taylor March 163-11 2/2/3/1 Garrett Pepple 136-7 X/2/2/1 Andy Uhl 145-10 Q/4/3/2 Connor Knapp 164-13 Q/4/3/4 Aidan Sprague 138-18 Q/6/6/5 Then it would have to be Nate and Jake Weimer who had remarkably similar careers. Jake 126-36 X/Q/X/7 Nate 124-30 Q/8/x/Q
  4. Are we using the same enrollment numbers and classifications as in the past, or has that not been determined yet?
  5. Most of what I know comes from the 8U, 10U, and 12U rankings as that is where my children are at. The pin ratings seemed to do a pretty good job of projecting the field at ISWA state last year. I don’t believe they will be as accurate at MS State or USA Nationals, because of some of the intricacies of the rankings that I have noticed. 1. They seem to heavily favor Indiana wrestlers. At 12U 5 of the top 10 national are Indiana Kids. 4 of the top 10 in 14U. All of the kids that are ranked highly are really good wrestlers, but there are some kids out there who do not do as many USA events that kind of fall through the cracks on the rankings. 2. They really seem to favor first year kids in a division. At 12U 5 of the top 10 are first year kids, again all tough wrestlers, but I don't know if the abilities of the second-year kids are accurately represented. Is a kid who placed top 3 in 10U expected to do better than a kid who was top 8 as a first year 12U? 3. They are not overly responsive to losses. This is a positive and a negative of the system. My son recently took some tough losses to kids he had either beaten a few times before, or had beaten kids who had beaten another wrestler. He lost twice, but still has a higher PIN because it is based on the overall body of work, which can be a positive depending on how long the PIN take to change... I am not sure how much results from several years back still play into the total pin ranking, or should play into it, but they don’t seem to drop a wrestler quickly because of a single recent result. 4. There are some wrestlers who are still ranked highly that do not do many events any longer. Often they were high placers as younger kids, but do not participate all that often any longer. 5. I do not believe they take age groups into account. If you look at the overall Indiana top 10. It is Mason Parris, Jesse Mendez then a mixture of kids from different age groups. That works pretty well for specific age groups but will cause more noticeable problems as the age groups, and weights mix. For example, a 1st year 12U with a high pin ranking should hold their own at say 65 lbs. A first year 12U with a high PIN could be seeded above second year 14U's or even some 16U's at let’s say 120 and I would expect the results to look much different. Either way it will be interesting to see how it shakes out this weekend.
  6. Anyone have any updates on if there will be more qualfiers? Also wondering about Indy Nationals. With state being in Evansville, will the location or date change?
  7. Due to South Adams making it to team state we have an opening for the EN Invite on January 6th. We are looking for a varsity squad. Current teams- Elkhart East Noble (JV) Jimtown Warsaw Lakeland Manchester Fremont Northrop Churubusco Southside Westview
  8. Anyone have the dates and locations for this years event? I hope there are a couple of extra qualifiers this year.
  9. I am writing team expectations and curious when does your team stop allowing wrestle off's to take place. I am debating between the week of conference (week before sectionals for us) or the week before.
  10. East Noble is sitting at 12. Thought I would reach out to you all and let you know that we are still taking teams for our girls event next weekend (11/11). We will have 4 mats going, hoping to get the girls 5-6 matches to start the year. Will be using madison block pairings. We hope this is a good tune up start of the year tourney for the girls. Last year we had 27 teams there. If you want in email me sriesen@eastnoble.net
  11. Pat Culp is running it as far as I am aware. She told me about it last spring. I hadn't heard much about it, so I just mentioned the event during the meeting so coaches knew it was available.
  12. Totally different event. It is not ran by or associated with the IHSWCA. I added it on because I felt that people would want to know about it. Honestly I have very few details on it other than the dates.

  14. This top 10 head of hair program has fallen. Several forfeits up there now nowadays.
  15. If you cant tell I am bored today. Anyhow I asked ChatGPT- What are the top 10 all time best Indiana High School wrestling programs? Its findings are below. ChatGPT Indiana's high school wrestling scene has been competitive for many years, with several schools building storied traditions. While the list of the "best" programs can be subjective and shift slightly based on individual champions, team titles, and recent successes, historically, some programs have consistently been dominant or recognized for their excellence. Here are ten such programs that have been considered among the best in Indiana high school wrestling history as of my last update in September 2021: Evansville Mater Dei: With a storied tradition, this school has secured numerous state championships and has consistently produced individual state champions. Indianapolis Cathedral: Historically strong with multiple state titles and individual champions, Cathedral has long been a staple in Indiana wrestling. Perry Meridian (Indianapolis): Their wrestling legacy includes several state titles and a consistent showing at the top of state rankings. Portage: A perennial power in Indiana wrestling, Portage has a long-standing tradition of success at the state level. Crown Point: Regularly fielding strong teams, Crown Point has produced numerous individual champions and has often been a top contender at the state tournament. Brownsburg: Rising to prominence in recent years, Brownsburg has secured state championships and has become a major force in Indiana wrestling. Mishawaka Penn: Consistently competitive, Penn's wrestling program has earned respect and recognition over the years. Indianapolis Warren Central: Known for their strong wrestling program, they've secured team titles and have been a regular presence at the state championship. Avon: Historically, Avon has fielded competitive teams and has had strong showings in state tournaments. Chesterton: Recognized for consistent performances, Chesterton's wrestling program has been a fixture in state tournaments. Again, rankings and perceptions can change over time based on various factors, and other schools might emerge or re-emerge as powerhouses. To get the most recent and accurate assessment of Indiana's top high school wrestling programs, you might want to refer to the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association or a similar dedicated state wrestling resource.
