The most impressive of part if these lists is the coaches with 70 plus qualifiers and still in the top 10

I say let them all wrestle.
and speaking of the Region, looks like some have gotten on the recruiting trail. Hopefully they wrestle better next week and bring a state title back to the Region

I’m impressed by the guys in the top 17 with 65+ qualifiers and keep their winning percentage high

Pretty simple at the Regional level to figure out brackets. There is a Sectional A and Sectional B. All of them have the same basic setup formula.
Regional Round 1
1st A vs 4th B
3rd A vs 2nd B
2nd A vs 3rd B4th A ca 1st B
It is pretty simple but as I get older my memory is not as good as it used to be. It’s nice to see it in one place and in bracket form.

This was the first Al Smith I’ve missed in a long time. So I was only able to watch the finals and a few select FaceTime matches.
A couple of issues I’ve had in the past is just simply inconsistent calls with stalling; from ref to ref and match to match. Also I think some refs don’t recognize hand fighting and/or fighting for position. Just because there hasn’t been a shot in a minute doesn’t mean anyone is stalling.

No Evan Bates?
Looks like Chesterton is forfeiting 106, 113, 220 & 285. Kinda surprising

Great result for Lee. Probably sets himself up to get a 5 seed at the trials behind Retherford, Yianni, Oliver, and McKenna. More than that, the nice wins over Eierman and Molinaro signal he's taken further steps forward toward an elite level where he could genuinely compete for national team spots very soon.
Also big news out of this tournament for Parris with the Cassar injury. Even if Cassar can recover mostly by Big 10s from yet another shoulder injury, Mason is probably the new favorite at the moment to win NCAAs.
And Boyd should enter the last chance trials qualifier event as a favorite for one of the two spots available there. She's knocking on the door of the top tier for sure. Loses 7-4 to the 4th place girl and "only" 5-0 to Kilty, who took two age group world silvers last year (juniors and U23s) at higher weights.
Gable wrestled on Friday. If Cassar is injured (or not) Gable will probably be the favorite.

Looks like Mendez bumped up to wrestle their #4 ranked 138

Unless ORPF’s nationally ranked 126 bumped up and upset Jesse, I don’t see him losing to their 132.
IU tweeted “Congrats to future Hoosier @nicholasbolivar who beat the #2 wrestler in the country at 132lb!”

Did Mendez lose to the OPRF kid?

#4 Giovanni Diaz, 34-2, Wheeler, 11 vs #17 Kamariyon Nelson, 27-9, Brownsburg, 9
Although Diaz has only suffered losses to #1 Moran and #3 Bettich at 120, I still think Nelson remains a threat. Brownsburg has an elite schedule that has lead to the Freshman suffering a few more losses than some had expected. Something to keep in mind is that Nelson owns a 12-2 MD victory over Diaz in the IHPO finals at 109 lbs back in September. Can he do it again? What are your predictions?
Diaz lost to Martin Cruz at the semi state. He hasn’t wrestled Moran this year. But this should still be a good first round match.

Why does Carmel have a * next to their name?

Many of the region schools have been closed Monday, Tuesday and have already been called off for Wednesday and Thursday.

Just catching up on this mess, so sorry if this may have already been asked. More than the match win/loss changing, shouldn’t this effect the qualifying weigh-in’s being that they were achieved illegally? That seems like something some coaches/wrestlers would take more issue with if they had some weigh-ins not count due to not falling in their qualifying weight margins.
As I’m reading this thread this was the first question I had as well. Maybe they had enough “qualifying weigh-ins” other than the ones they had to forfeit?

Any other updates?

Looks like some of the brackets are different from the show and track? I noticed 106 and 220. Anyone else notice?
-
Since the brackets topic is locked. It looks like some of the brackets are different on track from the show.

Some region schools have already cancelled school for tomorrow. Not sure if they can practice tomorrow or not. According to the Hammond Times: Lake Station Schools, River Forest, Hobart and Hammond schools.
I’m sure there will be more.

#16 David Taylor lost today.
Collin Taylor of Crown Point beat him first round

Merrillville got 12 out

Yes, spotlight on! Introductions will be pretty awesome as well!
Will the finals be wrestled by themselves? Or will you they be wrestled at the same time as the 3-4 place matches?

Three kids at 113 at Southport Sectionals. Does the alt from Shelbyville get in?
No. The Shelbyville champion will get a forfeit first round of regionals and be a semi state qualifier
-
When will the sectional brackets get released? There are only a few that I have seen that are released
nevermind looks like they are up now

I am sharing this. Please take a moment and read this.

I’ve only watched a couple of matches online as I was at state finals last weekend. Did all of the mats have commentating?
I think if you are assigned to commentate a certain mat you should comment on that mat and not give play by play on different mats unless you are covering multiple mats. I understand giving updates but you should be concentrating on the one mat. Not a big deal and I am glad that they were able to have play by play.
