  1. I'm not doing well here or anywhere else. I've only got 7 in the quarters. I won this one last year and came close to winning the main open pool on WrestleStat. I'm bottom half in 4 pools like this right now. Whoops!
  2. Summary of last night's results for our Indiana interests: Baumann, Bates, Willham are out. C-Rooks picks up two wins and makes it to the R24 in the consis. Lemley, G-Rooks, Lee all lose and fall into that round as well. Those 4 guys each need 3 wins to be AAs. Mendez, Allred, Davison are in the quarterfinals. Mendez beat Hardy, 11-3, during the year and is clearly favored. Allred will be a significant underdog versus #2 Hidlay, who's only gone the distance in 5 of his 26 wins during his undefeated season. Davison lost 5-3 to #2 Bastida this year, and should have a shot at the upset. IU has 5 of 6 still alive in the consolations. Purdue, as noted above, has Ramos in the quarters and Clark in the consis.
  3. I don't know. Ramos is just not the Ramos of last year, nor does he seem like the Ramos we saw part of this year. At his best, he could be up 10-1 going into the second period on any of these guys. Why does he so rarely attack these days? Then his defense is good--but not the best on the planet. So he can get scored on and get matches stolen from him by guys that aren't nearly on his talent level. What gives?? Is he cutting too much for 125 at this point? Anyway...the truth is, if he can get past the quarters and face Davis and Ayala--I think he can still get it done. He'd be back in that underdog role he loves so much, and there's a good chance attack-mode could come back out.
  4. I couldn't do it...him getting destroyed multiple times this year was too impressed on my brain. But you only have to be healthy and resemble your best once a year for all to be redeemed.
  5. I might have to consider no cash prize punishments also for both of you for tattling, you're right. I try not to get in the middle of these County/Region play fights though.
  6. As Mattyb said, you posted after about 6 weights had already wrestled the first round. Ha! If you win, you get no cash prizes and you have the requirement of posting an apologetic video explaining how you had no idea what was happening during those 2 hours.
  7. More specifically with our Indiana interests in Session 1: C-Rooks and Baumann lost Bates and Willham won their pigtails before losing in the genuine first round Mendez, Lemley, G-Rooks, Lee, Allred, Davison all won IU got 3 of 6 into the Round of 16. Purdue got Ramos through (barely!) but lost their other 4 matches. Session 2 at 7pm ET/6pm CT
  8. Fun first round...a few things I saw: --Nothing comes easy in this tournament! So many high seeds got pushed. --The jury's still out on Starocci. He didn't look like Starocci from this season, but he didn't need to. --Blake Boarman should have been in this tournament. Both of the other ranked guys from his conference that were in a 3-way results ring-around-the-rosey with him during the duals had very impressive R32 wins. And the 3rd guy that got an automatic bid won the 32/33 match over Cayden Rooks. --IU has 3 guys with legit shots at being AAs. Lee continues to get it done in tight matches. G-Rooks continues to never show any quit and be a handful for anyone. And #23 Fongaro got a huge upset--coupled with the #26 also getting an upset so that he's now a 50/50 to get to the quarters. --Allred also got a big favor with the #26 from VA Tech upsetting #7 Glazier. Glazier crushed Allred during the year--but Silas tends to be about as steady as they come against guys he should beat. If he keeps his nerve and gets to the quarters, he obviously has two shots to win matches that would earn him AA status.
  9. I did a couple other contests on wrestlestat, but not his.
  10. Wow...waited for those last-minute injury reports just before the buzzer. Nice.
  11. Don't forget to choose your wildcard. The guy you designate gets 5 bonus points if he outperforms his seed. As a 13, Blockhus gets it if he arrives at the blood round (Round of 12). But you have to designate the guy you're most confident in.
  12. @Ahap88 and others: I've updated the original post and rules to include 3 tiebreakers we will use if needed. (But there's no additional info you need to provide in your entry.)
  13. I agree that it's tricky...there are 1 or 2 at every weight that jump out as "value" picks, but it's tough to make the puzzle pieces fit. Fun stuff!
  14. 125 Ramos 4 133 Vito 6 WC 141 Lemley 8 149 Gomez 6 157 Blockhus 13 165 Carr 4 174 Starocci 9 184 Ayzerov 13 197 Brooks 1 285 Kerkvliet 1
  15. Sounds good! A 3rd criteria could be "most guys who scored points."
  16. Maybe he just meant "3-4" category. Carr is still a 4 as far as any media and brackets I can find.
  17. I know most of you don't check out the college threads and might not have seen this. Come join us for a simple NCAA pick 'ems game:
  18. Gotta be one of the first college signees ever from Indiana whose team didn't have a spot for him in the sectional lineup--and he's going to a D1 school. Nuts!! He's a beast. He deserves it.
  19. @UncleJimmy mentioned maybe we could do this again this year. Let's do it! Rules: Pick a team of 10, one guy from each weight class, according to these rules: Two guys seeded 1 or 2 Two guys seeded 3 or 4 Two guys seeded 5, 6, or 7 Two guys seeded at least 8th Two guys seeded at least 11th Points for placement: 1: 25 2: 20 3: 16 4: 13 5: 11 6: 9 7: 7 8: 5 Wildcard Bonus: Designate ONE GUY as your Wildcard. If he outperforms his seed, you pick up 5 bonus points. (We'll extend to the Blood Round for this. If you pick a guy who's seeded at least 13 and he reaches at least the final 12, the Blood Round, you pick up the Wildcard Bonus). Tiebreakers: 1) Most champs, 2) Individual who most outperformed their seed (example: 8-seed getting 3rd outperformed their seed by 5), 3) Most individuals who scored points for us NOTE: If a bracket change affects picks you already posted, you may choose to either 1) stay locked in and earn points according to originally assigned seeds, or 2) make changes according to updated seeds. Please announce your intention if you make changes! Post your team to this thread with final edits by 11:55am Eastern Time on Thursday, March 21 (not 10:55 as in some years...12pm ET/11am CT start time this year). WHEN YOU POST YOUR TEAM, PLEASE POST WEIGHT, NAME, & SEED
  20. In case you missed it on X or the college thread: Christian Mejia from Elkhart Memorial, Derek Blubaugh from Bloomington South, and Shawn Streck from Merrillville all picked up D2 national titles last night. Mejia had finished 5th twice before, was seeded only 3rd, and was in his final year of eligibility. Blubaugh had twice been national runner-up to his finals opponent, and had lost to him 5-0 two weeks ago, but finally got over the hump. Streck picked up his second consecutive title. Congrats, guys!!
  21. Christian Mejia!!! National champion! What a way to cap a career! Congratulations!
  22. Indianapolis sits in 10th place partway through the consi semi's. Mejia (Elkhart Memorial grad), Blubaugh (Bloomington South), and Streck (Merrillville) all go for national titles at 8pm ET tonight, streaming for free here: https://www.ncaa.com/event/4443
  23. As a Goshen guy, I'm sorry for not noticing that's how he accidentally had it. Ha!
  24. And Derek Blubaugh! He heads to his 3rd straight National Championship match at 197 with a heart-stopping last-second takedown and victory. He's lost the final 6-0 and 1-0 the last two years to #1 Dalton Abney of C. Oklahoma. Very sadly, that's his only D2 loss this season (5-0) and his opponent in the finals. Derek's a beast. He's got a couple D1 wins to his credit this year to go with the 2-time runner-up credentials. Here's hoping he can finally get over the hump and get the upset!! And Shawn Streck follows suit and joins the Indiana procession into the finals. He continues a dominating tournament with a 13-4 win the semi's. He'll look to repeat as national champion tonight at 285. He'll go in as the favorite against his 4th-seeded opponent.
