  1. Sort of on topic: What is the over/under for "on a mission" posts prior to Friday?
  2. Were those "Rich East Rockets" wrestling mats? What's up with that??
  3. Personally, I think friendofrunningwriter should be nominated for post of the year, if such a thing existed. He was blunt and honest - warts and all. Here's the bottom line: Until you can guarantee more than a few teams have a chance to win, and/or give a crap about the team title NOTHING is going to change. If you have to force teams to not send their JV or stick around to see who wins the title, why bother? In a somewhat subconscious way, I think class wrestling is being used as a solution to apathy or a cure for all of wrestling's "ills." More opportunities for kids is never a bad thing, but wrestling has and always be a tough sell; it's an acquired taste and it's not for everybody.
  4. I'll bite: 1. Back when there was a dual tourney, teams sent JV wrestlers or forfeited weight classes when they knew they were going to get smoked or didn't want their wrestlers cutting weight mid-week. 2. To some degree, I think the elimination of the team tournament has cut down on SOME of the rampant transfers going on creating HS teams that were essentially extensions of wrestling academies. 3. I am sure many will disagree, but I think wrestling is mostly an individual sport.
  5. I'm guessing here, but the logic is that the dual meets are a better representation of a team championship than the individual tourney. 75% might also eliminate the possibility of ties (e.g. teams flip flopping places from finish in duals and tourney). Either way, kudos to the Portage staff and administration for making a decision they feel is in the best interest of their program and being upfront about their intentions.
  6. And I bet he won't stay there.
  7. Like I said, I guess I gave the people involved the benefit of the doubt to do the right thing. That being said, I think there are situations where living to fight another day are appropriate. For example, Mark Myers with a torn ACL forfeiting to Andrew Howe several years ago.
  8. Forfeiting gives you 0% chance of winning, wrestling at least provides a 1% chance. Micic was an absolute beast that year, but I don't recall any matches where he ripped limbs from an opponent's body or rendered anyone unconscious. If he did, kudos to Stevan!! Given his talent, I guess I don't buy the conspiracy theories that McCormick forfeited the match to avoid the potential for a new injury or avoiding embarrassment. In fact, you can make the argument forfeiting is far more scrutinized than getting destroyed in a match. Otherwise, we wouldn't be talking about this topic. Then again, maybe I'm giving certain people too much credit for doing the right thing?
  9. Can we agree that forfeiting for strategy is poor form when it isn't due to injury? However, when it involves injury a coach needs to consider what's best for his student-athlete. Secondly, it's not as if forfeits at the individual state finals is a rampant problem, so let's not go overboard here. There will still be a state finals this year, nobody is getting a refund, and this isn't a $64.95 PPV card with a main event fighter withdrawing an hour before the broadcast. Lastly, in my opinion, Yorktown has "earned" ridicule with their past/present student transfer practices, but drudging up the forfeit stuff with Micic is not a fair characterization of what actually occurred.
  10. Actually, Cummings is ranked at #113, which makes it more intriguing IMO.
  11. Congrats! I didn't realize you invented Twitter....
  12. I think Loki's point was Fabio was "throwing dirt"(your words) on Penn's attempt to beef up it's wrestling schedule. Perhaps a supporter of all Indiana wrestling programs could say something positive about Penn's attempt to challenge themselves against the best of the best? Or not, but then you have to prepare to have it thrown back at you. Lastly, Fabio's a big boy he can defend himself.
  13. Don't worry about sportsfangms. He typed his response from a Lincoln Park loft wearing his hipster oversized Raybans, skinny jeans, cardigan sweater and Sperry deck shoes (even though he's never ridden in a boat in his life).
  14. Looks like the grooms hairline has been airbrushed?
  15. John Harrell's website: Michigan City gym capacity = 7,304 Merrilville gym capacity = 2,800 I'll take it!!
  16. Nope. I'm saying fanning the flames on a website isn't the solution to the problem. If I was more directly affected by the ISWA's actions perhaps I might be more incensed than I am. However, I hope I would be able to put the totality of the ISWA and their actions into perspective. Starting a post saying the "ISWA needs to be put on notice" is bush league in my opinion, and quite frankly the guy ticked me off to the point I felt compelled to say something. Don't worry AJ, I am going back into my bunker and will let the geniuses solve all of Indiana wrestling's faults.
  17. Considering Warsaw is a 6A school with one state qualifier in 2014-2015 and a pretty non-existent feeder program (based on your posts), I think the ISWA can survive without your membership. Maybe you should focus on the business of improving Warsaw wrestling?
  18. Point of clarification: Penn is only considered part of the region when bragging about semi-state superiority.
  19. Devils advocate: if you knew the two tourney rule was not going to be enforced why didn't you tell the kids in your program who quit training? This whole issue is a debacle from beginning to end, and as usual the kids are the ones who suffer. Common sense isn't that common apparently.
  20. Do you know for a fact they intended to backtrack the entire time? I think it's fair to question their judgment about changing the rule, but your quote above is essentially saying the ISWA intentionally conspired to change the rule the whole time. Questioning their integrity and their decision making are two different things, in my opinion.
  21. None of the class wrestling pundits are going to bite on this comment? Last week, 30+ plus pages of debate, today nothing. It's the Wednesday before Spring Break I could use some semi-entertainment....!
  22. Is the bulk of the talent projected to be 106-113? For them to be the best, some of them are going to have to grow or space themselves out. There's some serious hammers on that team, but I thought most of them currently wrestle under 90lbs.
  23. jchas, agreed but I would define that as a general lack of civility and common decency. I understand (and even appreciate) what TripleB and Newbie are trying to do, but is their sarcasm any less belittling than booing? In the end, cliche's ring true: treat others as you wish to be treated, act like you've been there before, there is no substitute for hard work, if it was easy everybody would do it.... jchas, I think you're joining the old man's cynic club I'll leave you with a quote from the Breakfast Club: "C'mon Vern, the kids haven't changed, you have!"
