  1. With comments like this, I am worried about your safety. Put down the CP Kool Aid before you get Kool Aid poisoning. 4-5 state champs in one year is unheard of and your comment wreaks of bias. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say you wrestled at CP.
  2. I did and wasn't as blatant as you're making out to be. I think you've had a little too much CP Kool Aid tonight, VMI.
  3. It's always the ref's fault...my guy lost because the lights were too bright on his mat!
  4. What a waste of a broadcast...I was looking forward to watching, oh well.
  5. Is anyone else having a problem with the video from broadcastsport.net? Every ten seconds it pauses for "buffering".
  6. Y2 and his admiration for any wrestler from a small school...that reason alone should be enough to go to class wrestling.
  7. Derek Moore, UC Davis, 2007 National Champ at 141. Tech'd Ryan Lang in the finals of the NCAA's. Mitch Clark, Ohio State, National Champ. Tech'd Greg Jones in the 1st period of the finals riding legs. High School: Fred Joseph, Portage, 2x state champ @ 152. Tough leg rider.
  8. Wow...so you're best argument for class wrestling is, "practice partners and better coaches." Pretty weak, Y2. Problem is that there have been plenty of state champion wrestlers from schools with mediocre coaches and practice partners. Another problem with your argument is the fact that class wrestling is not going to end mediocrity in coaching and practice partners. Class wrestling will not magically take a decent, small school program and make it a mini Mater Dei. What it will do is diminish the accomplishments of wrestlers from small schools, especially state champions. If you don't believe me, look at our neighbor to the west, Illinois. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one, Y2...
  9. We're not talking about college wrestling and you're living in the land of Oz if you think class wrestling is going to create your wrestling utopia of more coaches, practice partners, etc. for most small schools. I'll pose my question for the last time...When two wrestlers step on the mat, how does their school's enrollment favor one wrestler over the other?
  10. All of the above still don't explain why the individual tournament needs to be changed to the class system. A class system for the team tournament would help all of the above. Still waiting for a logical reason to change the individual tournament...
  11. No, it's not an excuse. It's a logical argument to propose that a school with 500 kids is at a disadvantage compared to a school with 5,000. Individually, I have not heard a logical argument. Enrollment does not apply, in my opinion. Again...Karl and the rest of this community can enlighten me.
  12. I'll be honest, I haven't read through all of the threads about this topic because a lot of people refuse to see the other side of the coin. I see pro's and con's to both sides but when the dust clears, I have to side with class wrestling for the team competition and don't touch the individual tournament. It makes absolutely no difference at Conseco if you wrestle for a school with 500 kids or 5,000. What makes the sport of wrestling so great is the fact that you're one on one with an opponent who weighs the same as you. If you lose, you have no one to blame but yourself. The rhetoric I've read about making the individual tournament a class system all has one thing in common...excuses. From "practice partners" to "more kids will be labeled a state champion"...it's all just excuses and anyone who has wrestled knows, this is not a sport of excuses. I have not read one plausible reason why the individual tournament should go to a class system. My ears are open so please enlighten me. As for the following weekend at Center Grove, I am in favor of going to a class system. The school enrollment issue is a very reasonable logic to follow and I hope the IHSAA will see that one day.
  13. What about the lowest winning percentage to make it to the championship match? The few names that come to mind are Danny Creasap in 2001 (42-7) and Steven Minton had 5 or 6 losses (all to Rosbottom) in 2000. Someone needs to help me out with the old days though...80's and earlier.
  14. I don't think small sports are slighted on purpose, I think it really boils down to the money. AD's turn into Ginsu Knifes salesmen when they get to host a Sectional, Regional, or Semi-State championship in football. The more advertising (pep rallies, newspapers, radio, etc.) the more seats they're going to fill.
  15. Last year, these two teams wrestled each other sometime in January. Did this dual take place this year and if it did, who won?
  16. Mishawka (if they get there) 31 CP 29 Sandedfer will stick Flamme, imo.
  17. Who cares about the rankings.... Start this thread back up after the state meet and that will give us our true "toughest semi state". My prediction...Merrillville.
  18. I didn't think it was a takedown but I also think that Skelton should have had the chance to finish but the ref awarded two and then blew the match dead to discuss the takedown, ultimately taking it away. The biggest advantage Mascaro had was the Lebanon coach discussing the takedown for 3-4 minutes. Mascaro was on empty but he got an additional 3-4 minutes to rest and you could tell it helped him in the second OT. Nothing against the Lebanon coach, at the time, he had to argue the call. If Mascaro wrestles like that, no way he lives up to his #4 ranking. Good luck to both wrestlers this weekend at the New Castle semi state.
  19. 5 for sure... 145 and 215 won't make it, imo. 130 has a good shot... 7 Bulldogs to Conseco... gnome never misses, not even when the ladies leave the seat down!

Taking what I have read (or "red" in mt. vernon), the Castle Regional mats were stale? Has anyone out there had their mats go stale before???? I recommend a giant "chip clip"...that's always helped my Doritos not go stale.
  21. Don't get me wrong, CP and M'ville have great teams but 13 and 14 to semi-state? This is just my opinion and I know some of you won't agree but I think it is ridiculous that the IHSAA has changed the format, now allowing the top 4 from each regional to go on. I think it's watered down the accomplishment of being a semi-state qualifier. A buddy of mine and I were debating this topic today and he is in favor of the top 4 advancing. His reasoning being, "there will be some 4th place finishers knock off some Regional champions." My rebuttal to him was, "By using that logic, let's take the top 5 or 6 from each semi-state because God knows a 5th place finisher will knock off a Semi-State champion some time." I'll get off my soap box but seeing some teams advance 14 and 13 to semi-state just got me thinking...I'm open for someone to tell me where I'm going wrong. Blanket congratulations to ALL semi-state qualifiers.

  24. Carmel High School = 4,170 students Fountain Central High School = 280 students Just thought I'd put it into perspective. I couldn't tell you where Fountain Central is located but I have to give them some "props" for making it to the team regional as a 1A school.
  25. I'm going to go with IU this year. They could of easily have beaten PSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan so I gotta believe they have the overall stronger team. Anything is possible when it comes to IU/PU....GO HOOSIERS!!!!
