  5. Posted February 7, 2021 "The 182lb mooresville regional runner up has now drawn into the Evansville north champ in the ticket round 8 years in a row.... crazy!" Looks like Mooresville 2 drew in Evansville 1 at 182 again this year. That's at least 9 of the last 11 years that's happened. It wouldn't take a lot to figure this out if the coaching staff had done any research. I doubt that the formula is being leaked--just people assuming what will happen based on prior years.
  6. Page 78 of the Winter Bulletin X Pairings and Seeding A. Sectional pairings and seeding will be made at 7:00 p.m. at the center school on the Wednesday preceding the sectional tournament.
  7. Everything ideas about it is that the team scores and all other placers stand. They don’t move anyone up the podium and they don’t recalculate the team scores.
  8. Title IX is not as simple as having the same amount of sports. It's about creating equal opportunities. Football throws this number off because of how many kids are on the team. No female sport has the equivalent of football. Athletics programs are considered educational programs and activities. Participation: Title IX requires that women and men be provided equitable opportunities to participate in sports. Title IX does not require institutions to offer identical sports but an equal opportunity to play;
  9. My numbers might be off--I went back through and it looks like 49 kids from 3A and smaller schools qualified (I did not include EMD in this) and 25 were from the Ft. Wayne SS. This makes the numbers worse.
  10. 6A—32 schools 5A—32 4A—62 3A—64 2A—64 1A—64
  11. After looking back at my numbers, 39 (of 64 schools) 5A and 6A schools account for 112 qualifiers. That's 50% of the field. Another 50 kids qualified from 4A schools. So, if my math is correct, 162 of the 224 qualifiers came from 4A schools or bigger....that leaves 62 qualifiers from 3A schools and smaller...
  12. "Every year the numbers statically show that there is no advantage to an individual in terms of making semi-state or state." Explain the statement above to me...this year approximately 106 of the 224 state qualifiers were from 5A and 6A football schools. That's 64 of roughly 310 schools (20%) accounting for almost 50% of the field.
  13. I've coached at small schools--kids don't want to come out because they think they have no chance to advance. Those of you that think "just having the opportunity to compete" is enough for kids these days, are wrong. Classed team state doesn't move the needle for kids wanting to participate. Kids want to know there is a payoff at the end of their struggle. Is it guaranteed if we had 2 classes? No, but at least they feel like they have a fair chance. I can't get kids to come out when I tell them we are in a Sectional with Brownsburg, Avon, Plainfield, Pike and Ben Davis. And if you get through that, the Regional with Center Grove, Franklin, Mooresville, Martinsville, etc... While programs aren't being dropped, at what point do teams stop getting dual meets scheduled? When they have 8, 9, or 10 forfeits? Nobody wants to schedule those teams. I don't have the numbers, but I would bet we are getting more of those teams every year. Maybe I should have told them to come out anyway and just work harder. That seems to be a pretty popular opinion to small school problems...
  14. I can't remember the D2 school in Nebraska who won the D2 national championship and was told they were being cut before they got home from the tournament. Nebraska-Omaha...On March 25, 2011, the Nebraska Board of Regents approved a plan set forth by UNO Athletics to reclassify from Division II to Division I, thereby paving the way for the Mavericks to join The Summit League beginning in July of that same year. As part of the reclassification, UNO discontinued the football and wrestling programs to cut costs and to better align with the sports sponsored by The Summit League.

  20. Automatic Frosh-Soph State Qualifiers ... any Indiana Freshman or Sophomore wrestler who qualifies for an IHSAA Semi-State is automatically qualified and will be imported into the State Final Tournament. They are not permitted in the Qualifiers. They are only participants if they pay the entry fee on-site at the State Championships.
  21. Mooresville uses 4 mats first round, 3 mats for semis and 2 for the final round.
  22. You stop it once the wrestler that is down 15 points gets on top. There is no reversal or opportunity for a fall—he already lost the match by getting down 15.
  23. By old format do you mean having an 8 team bracket? Everyone got 3 matches. Winners in the 1st round were guaranteed top 4 placement. Losers wrestled each other to determine who wrestled for 5th. Losers of that match wrestled for 7tn.
