  1. Great Match, Great Crowd, Great Atmosphere! Crown Point 37.00 Hobart 26.00 106 — Jacob Carter (CP) p. James Corgan 1:11. 113 — Julio Reyes (CP) d. 2. A great Region wrestler to not place is George Petrov. He went to state his frosh year but never returned.
  3. This thread had me rolling, best one all season. Good luck to all this weekend and congrats to all that made it to state,
  4. Merrillville is 5 for 5 so far. Their heavyweight is expected to win Friday night. I see Merrillville doing well.
  5. Be careful out there in North Eastern Indiana. There is a huge storm coming from Angola to Warsaw. It past through NW Indiana and it went through with alot of rain and wind (66-90 mph). Take Care!!!!
  6. I think Quiroz has the talent and desire to make it to the state finals again after seeing Quiroz win the Mishawaka Invite over a tough opponent. He has physically matured since last year and has always had good hips to enable him to be an awesome scramber. But beating Sean is another story! Sean has not lost in Indiana in a long time. These two Regionites will have some great matches this year and I hope the last one is in the State Finals. It could be like the McGill/Cosgrove battles of several years ago.
  7. What a great match! Merrillville won 9 of the 14 matches in a tough Duneland dual, but the Pirates were just too much this time around. Michael Torres (Portage) looked like he is back in form by bumping up and winning 19-9 at 160. Sean (portage) handled state-ranked Wengel for the tech while bumping up to 171. At 103 Senior Stevens was able to pin the tough, younger Torres to extend the Pirate lead. At 112 the tables were turned as the superfrosh Garcia beat the experienced Coppinger 4-3. 135 Acuna (portage) won 4-0 to win the last match of the night. Acuna looks strong at this weight. The Merrillville upperweights have only been practicing 3 weeks so they still have some rust to shake off and conditioning to improve. It could be a wider margin of victory next time. Only time will tell.
  8. Both teams are state ranked and it should be an outstanding match. At 103 the senior should be able to handle the frosh (Torres) from Portage. Having Napules at 125 will be a big plus for Merrillville. The match will be determined by how many pins Merrillville will be able to get. Both teams are physically tough, in good shape, and led by determined coaches. I feel Merrillville is more balanced throughout its lineup and should win the dual. Sean's opponent won't necessarily sacrificied since every person wrestling will be trying to complete its role in trying to get its team the win.
  9. The new team ranking look great! Mishawaka's line up is deep and balanced. They are an obviously safe choice for number one. I agree that Crown Point lost many experienced seniors from last year's team. This year's team is much younger and not as balanced. The rankings are based on how this year's team looks and not on last year's results. Crown Point will do very well on individual tournaments based on their studs but wrestling a dual is a different matter. Merrillville is ranked a bit low IMO. Penn looked awesome at the Harvest Classic at Lake Central. They are well-coached and in excellent shape.
  10. The top three teams leading into the final round were Penn (by a lot), lake central, and McCutchen? What an exciting day of wrestling!
  11. Yea, Surma is an outstanding leg rider. Anyone wrestling him would definitely have to think twice about going down.
  12. Although Crown Point has several excellent individuals thier team will not be able to handle Merrillville. I see them on a level with Munster and Portage. These four teams should be able to supply us with some excellent matches to get us through the winter. When does C.P. wrestle Merrillville?
  13. Union Country can probably do well in placing for the Coaches' Trophy. It is a real nice piece of hardware.
  14. It looks like Coach Dave has the Pirates ready this year for a long run in the State tournament. His line up is stacked from 103 all the way to heavy. Crown Point has their studs but it looks like they lost too many seniors last year. Munster has their team ready to do some damage in spite of losing Estrada. Mishawaka and Penn will be tough coming out of the South Bend area. Can't wait for the season to start!!!!
  15. Coach Harper has done an awesome job at Penn since he has arrived. He doesn't only have the numbers but also has quality kids who have learned to love wrestling and are quite skilled. It won't take long before Penn beats Mishawaka in a dual.
