Great event again this year. I came down for Sunday it ran so smooth and was loaded with some good wrestling on all 6 mats!
I would say I was impressed with Kamden Goering @152 from Elkhart Memorial great tournament from him!

Dear 138 pound weight class at state finals,

Congrats to all of you, lots of fierce competitors, and you should all be proud! Wrestling is the ultimate teacher of life lessons, so learn what you can from your experience!

    Kris Rumph
You are a great wrestler and competitor and your interview showed some great character.  You have overcome a lot in life and I hope you understand that your wrestling achievements can transfer to anything you chose to pursue in life.  The Melloh family will look forward to seeing good things for you in the future, and will say a special prayer for Kris Rumph today at church.  Looking forward to rooting for you, not against you!
    Blake Mulkey
You are an awesome wrestler. Blake, you have a great wrestling future,  and we wish you the best.  Sometimes things don’t go your way, it will make you stronger if you let it.
    Dawson Combest
We wish you the best at Uindy.  It truly seems like yesterday that you and Zach were battling it out for ISWA state finals.  I miss those days already.  Uindy is getting a good one and we know you will do great in wrestling and school.  Count your blessings son, you have an awesome support group with Columbus East wrestling family!  That’s a good group!  I will always hold Coach Trapp in high regard..... I saw how much he did for you guys with the youth program. What a great guy and mentor!
Lastly, to my son, Zach Melloh
With tears of pride, I want to tell you that I love you and I am so proud of you.  My sadness only comes from knowing this chapter is over.  I didn’t appreciate the ride like I should have while I was living it.......through wrestling, you have helped us grow as a family and expand our faith.  So few people know what you have been through to get to where you were yesterday. But God does and your family does, and we are proud to call you our son and your siblings are proud of their brother.  Part of trying to live a Christ centered life means that sometimes the target on your back gets bigger.  It’s ok, keep fighting the good fight.  Keep grinding and doing the right things in life.  With a heart full of pride for the young man you have become, looking forward to the next chapter.

    Your biggest fan club,
Dad, Mom, Corinne, Alex, and Cecelia

So time to take a quick break and provide a distraction to the loaded regional and SS talk.
My son is new to the sport...it was a little over a year ago that he decided he wanted to give wrestling a try.  Something about watching kids under the lights at Bankers Life in 2015 provided that spark.  So as a 5th grader he started on his journey.
After a bit of research, we learned about Red Cobra and he’s been in that sweat box ever since...and most nights I’m also spending a few hours listening to Coach Red bark instructions to all the kids.
Now true confession time...I never wreslted myself and frankly thought wrestlers were an odd bunch growing up.  One dude I knew in Junior High covered his singlet in deer attractant as an “advantage”.   Another kid claimed to rub onions on his pits and “area”.  I was a basketball player and that was my love...I wasn’t tough enough to wrestle even though I considered myself a tough guy.  So needless to say, I knew next to nothing when my kid started and know just a tiny bit more now.
More recent confession, during our first few meets man some parents were going insane during a match while I just saw some kids leaning on each other.  My inner monologue said “dude, what’s those people’s issue?  They’re some real nut-jobs.”
Fast forward to today, and a solid year of Coach Red training has not only helped my kid but also his old man that’s been sweating profusely on the other side of the partition while Coach Red instructs like only he can.  What I didnt know is that I was getting C-Red Trained too.   Now I find myself automatically and instinctively barking stuff like “Get Your HEAD UP!!!” And “UP AND OUT!!!” Or “GET THAT TIGHT AND SQUUUEEEEZE!!!” Or “God gave you two hands SO USE THEM!!”  Its like I can’t control it.
So to all you parents before that I was secretly being real judgey towards in my head, because y’all were losing your minds (or so I thought)...my bad.
To all you beginner parents wondering why the big dude in purple is losing his mind in the future....you’ll get it one day.
One thing I’ve learned while my boy has really embraced and taken to this sport and the process...if you’re the parent of one of these high schoolers that’s putting it all out there in the coming weeks, then really be proud of it and where you are.  Make sure to take a moment and take it in.  Be proud they’re there regardless of outcome. Unlike any other, wrestling is an awesome sport that requires some real courage to even walk out there on that mat.  Sometimes it takes the eyes of a newbie to bring the obvious into focus.
Good luck to all competitors and teams as each step gets a little tougher.  I’m glad I’m here...and I’m glad my son has chosen to be a wrestler.

Good tournament. They guys enjoyed competing against some tough competition. The music, announcer, and spotlight for the finals make it an exciting atmosphere! I thought the Shearer vs Zadylak final match was one of the best of the day! Back and forth match with Shearer scoring reversal and nearfall at the end.

I seen a lot of tears in the stands last night mainly during award presentations from a lot of wrestlers who either didn't place or didn't get a chance to wrestle (either due to injury or elimination at Semi-State, Regions, etc.), and I completely understand. For the underclassmen who didn't place, understand that you will hopefully have another opportunity to wrestle it out and either become one of the 224 at Bankers Life or 112 to earn medals. Wrestle each match like it is your last and constantly train like your life depends on it. Do not get caught up in the rankings because while they are fun to look at and see yourself on, they don't matter as much as you would think. You don't get a much better example than Eli Stock. He was ranked #16 and won a state championship over the second-ranked wrestler in the state (whom I picked to win) by fall. You can tell he was determined and worked his butt off. For those who are caught up in their record, don't be. Caleb Oliver, a freshman at Cathedral, entered the state finals with a 20-18 record, but I can guarantee you he has gained a boatload of experience and amassed much-deserved confidence wrestling on the highest level in a tough weight class. For the seniors, who either didn't make it out of Semi-State, Regions, Sectionals, fell unable to compete due to injury, were JV, or other circumstances, understand what you were able to do and take it for what it is worth. You were able to compete in a sport which allowed you to push yourself to the absolute limits physically and mentally. You are not a normal person. A normal person couldn't and wouldn't last in their body and endure what you've endured in your mind, spirit, and soul. You have nothing to hang your head about. Whether you're one of those kids coming from powerhouse programs like EMD, Brownsburg, Perry Meridian, Penn, Avon, or even smaller programs like Adams Central, Churubusco, Shenandoah, etc., YOU ARE A WRESTLER. You know what it takes to earn and gain superior position. Use that mindset for the rest of your life. For the seniors who wrestled their final match on Friday night and sat through the tournament Saturday, you may feel empty and may be beating yourself up over what you could've done differently, cried, or don't know what to feel, I can understand your emotions firsthand. It's a hard pill to swallow as a competitor to see other wrestlers you've either beaten, held close matches with, or have the same common opponents as you did, excel and place on the podium or even win. It's hard for me just coming into Bankers and not immediately getting emotional, but as a person, you have to let it go and recognize what you have done. It's still taking me time to adjust and think about what I could've done, but as my family and friends told me, I made it where many people couldn't and had the opportunity to wrestle in front of 10,000+. For that, I am forever grateful. So, to my seniors without hardware, don't think about what could've been. Think about what was and what is to come. For all of you wrestlers who didn't quite get the endings you wanted, don't hang your head. Think about your life in the long run, because one day, you'll be able to tell your kids and future generations all of your favorite memories and how much you've learned from this sport. As a wrestler, you learn so much and you become a better person. Congratulations to all Indiana high school wrestlers for another great season, and to all seniors for great careers.

I think you have to be careful about assuming where posters are from. Adams Central is the first school listed so you need to change that to select a school on your profile. There are way too many people on here that looks like they are from AC when in reality most likely are not. I would like to think we would not have posters knocking other programs when we are striving to get to their level. So I think folks need to ease up a little on their assumptions of where posters are from.

I know Matt and would never take a shot at him or anyone that puts as much time and effort into this sport that we all love.

Great weekend by all the kids who participated. It is a great accomplishment to earn a trip to the state finals. Those are the elite kids in the state.

12 of the champions were ranked #1 and one of the #1 ranked wrestlers did not even make it out.

Only 4 of the rankings had all of the top 4 make it, and only one was a perfect 1-4 (152).
