This Corona Virus stuff is starting to wear on me.  I have been doing some thinking.

Who would you have on your school's all star team (A and B squad) using the current weight classes?

This is mine from Prairie Heights. Some of these guys competed at these weights, some were from back in the day at different weights.  Having said that, I bumped a few into classes and had a few others cut. Let's see some of your teams.

My son Carson got slammed in the ticket round his sophomore year. They actually landed on the concrete floor at the Ford Center. Hurt his hip pretty bad. Had a huge bruise. But.. he told the ref that he wanted to continue (he was winning). They restarted the match. I don’t know if his mobility was hindered, and I still have never asked. But... the next thing I know he got pinned. Could have punched his ticket to state. He never has ever brought it up. We all know that he did the right thing. Things happen... you get up and wrestle.

On the flip side, his senior year... he was at emd wresting. He was up 13-0 he took the kid down to get the tech. He clearly slammed the kid. The kid could have took a dive and gave an undefeated senior a loss. The kid got up and finished the match.

It’s just what we do here.

This whole thread and group of replies has became ridiculous.  I feel that there's a lot of common sense left out of many statements made in this thread.

We just had a kid become a two time finalist from Garrett.  Our athlete was naturally gifted, but also worked his tail off.  Our kid went to RTC's, Fargo, Camps, Private sessions with coaches, and spent extra time in the weight room.  He did phenomenal and had a phenomenal career.  He did amazing and will have a phenomenal college career and life!

All that being said...we are not a big school...he was the exception to the rule...he went above and beyond the requirements to be elite.  I'm sure other small school kids that were elite did the same.  If we compare the "average athlete at a "Big School" compared to the "average athlete at a small school," we're going to find at the root they're very much the same.  But, when we dig deeper, we're going to find that the athlete at the larger school has more training partners, more opportunities, and generally speaking, pretty good coaching.  There's good coaching at smaller schools for sure, and I won't contest that.  However, if I were able to get every athlete at Garrett to wrestle, I'm pretty sure I still couldn't produce as many state champs as the "elite, bigger, better schools."  Regardless, none of that bothers me.  I love my community and I relish the underdog role and I feel that we can make some great things happen.

With all that being said, I prefer the team state series to be classed, but that's a no brainer.  If our state was to ever go to an individual class system, I'd prefer we went to a maximum of a 2 class system.

So I have coached at Southern Wells for 16 years. We have an enrollment of around 250 students. Obviously I am for classing the team side of the tournament because I feel like that is a no brainer. However when it comes to the Individual tournament I love the one class. We have had success sending multiple guys down to the State Tournament but Semi-State Qualifiers are a big deal for our school and our wrestling team as well. We have had a wrestler at the Semi-State tournament for each of the past 16 years and that is a streak we are extremely proud of. Are the expectations different being a wrestler from Southern Wells or a wrestler from Indianapolis Cathedral, well yeah I guess. But when you have a special group like we did at Southern Wells this year and take 3 guys down to the State Finals and wrestle against Crown Point, Penn, and Cathedral on Friday night, what else is better than that! These 3 guys deserved to wrestle on the biggest stage against the biggest schools and best wrestlers in the State.

SWwrestling reacted to 60yearold120lbs in Injury Defaults
I've been wrestling around the same amount of time you have been coaching. I have seen wrestlers take an injury default and walk around fine five minutes later a few minutes later. I think if you could. By saying "hey you're injury defaulting you can't wrestle the rest of the day. Understand that." You're giving then mmm the option to choose. You're really allowing the wrestler to pick and choose what match they want to wrestle in with the ways the rules are now. "No I'm not good enough to wrestle and finish the match, but I can wrestle the next match." It softens the sports.

A story I have is this,
A year ago at Goshen Regionals first round one of the Gimson boys from Jimtown was winning his match by a wide margin. He got called for an illegal body slam, and this kid seemed hurt. I really respected what the East Noble coaches did... they knew their kid wouldn't be able to finish the match, but they started the time let it run one second and then stopped the time  and then lost the match.  The coaches knew that Gimson was going to place at state (he did). This coach got crap from the fans for sure, and the coaches I talked to throughout the day said they don't know that they would be able to do that. I know that this sort of argues for allowing injury defaults, but a majority of the coaches said they don't know if they could do that. Keeping that in the back of my mind, It's easy for coaches to say they'd do the right thing, but when it all comes down to it, a lot of then would have a hard time not taking their kid to semi-state, state, the finals etc. I think by giving the option to pick and choose which match they wrestle in gives them the idea that they get to go farther. Either way the rules are the rules, and I'm just for good hard wrestling. There can always be talk about ways to improve the sport. I'm here to learn.

The rule was interpreted correctly by the officials. The question of it being a true false start is not so clear in the video. I will try and post video at some point. Just like many things in life it is when the rule or situation is abused. I have coached for many years and never have been put in the situation that the Oak Hill coaching staff was put into on Saturday. I believe in all my heart I know what I would have done in the situation. However the problem and the "unfortunate situation" that this rule caused was that Josh Beeks will never get the opportunity that he has earned by working hard and puttting himself in the best possible situation you can by entering the Semi-State tournament has a Regional champ, will never happen. 30 secs. into the match a "Caution" ended the kids career and his dream of being a State Qualifier.

The referee is obligated to tell you if you are using injury time or recovery time. You may have not known but your head coach was fully aware of what time was being used.

What injury?  Not being mean, but Hardcastle won the semi state after his injury...Crappy situation...as boomer implied earlier...wrestle backs could help this...both are tough kids...we don't know who would've won...just sucks to see a career end like that.  I know that Coach Landis does a fantastic job with SW and I was rooting for him
