  1. Manchester sophomore Cam Brady (149) makes his second appearance at nationals, last year finishing 1 match short of All-American status. He is the only Indiana student-athlete to make it to nationals. He is ranked 7th nationally and was the Midwest Regional champion.

Good luck in LaCrosse, WI next week Cam!

  2. Although I am flattered that some people think the IHSWCA has massive power in Indiana, I would point out that the IHSWCA is an association of volunteers that offers programs for wrestlers and coaches across our state and acts as a liaison between the IHSAA and the Indiana wrestling community (at the IHSAA's leisure).  Please do not lay Indiana's wrestling woes on the back of the IHSWCA.  I would re-emphasize that the IHSWCA is not in charge of the IHSAA.  Although we make proposals and suggestions to the IHSAA from time to time, the IHSAA does not have to use our suggestions and many times they do not.  We (the IHSWCA) cannot control the IHSAA, nor is it our responsibility to do so.

I do find it disturbing that people are permitted to degrade other people, and organizations, on a public forum without even signing their name to it.  I also find it humorous that some "contributors" to this forum try to bolster their status with testimonials of how they coached for long periods of time (thereby insinuating that they must have been good at what they did) just so they can be critical of others' efforts.  The easiest thing to do is simply sign your real name to your comments and then other readers will be able to assess if your criticism is accurate and/or warranted.  What I have typically found though is that those who are most critical were/are the least involved and simply enjoy sitting on the sidelines (with a fashionable screen name) and spend their time being critical of others rather than attempt to make a positive contribution themselves.

I, for one, would like to thank the IHSWCA officers and regional representatives for their expertise and hours of volunteer service on behalf of the wrestlers and coaches across our state.  This is a hard working and committed group of gentlemen who many times put the needs of their own team(s) aside in an attempt to offer opportunities for other programs around the state.

    Coach McCormick

A lot of times when a thread starts making personal attacks it gets shut down, interesting that when the moderator is one of them making attacks it's ok. Agree or not, let's move on and act like adults instead of being poor role models for kids, and we wonder why they yell at refs.

  3. haha ouch

I suppose we know where to take the refs for supper afterwards too??

No need to take offense, it works very well. Look at all the top teams and wrestlers nationally. Have you ever seen St Paris Graham? There are matches where they win when they shouldn't because they know there is a time to go after it and take chances and there is a time to stall and do whatever it takes to avoid getting scored on. I watched them at Ohio's team state this year and they were definitely outmatched in some matches, but knew when to ball up and stall, or run away and keep from getting taken down to keep the match close. A stalling call here or there is much smarter than getting taken down or turned. It's the sad fact of the sport, any good coach, and Faurote is one of the best in the state, knows this.

  4. 90% of the experienced, qualified officials would issue an immediate unsportsmanlike conduct for a first offense of this, but wouldn't issue a flagrant unless it was persistent and/or inappropriate language, etc.

That should have been the call, and the coach should be handling this  as well. Hopefully whoever did this grows up and doesn't do this anymore.

  5. Gotta be Coach Jarmon.

I heard a coach, from a school that rhymes with 'elta', tell a ref once that he needed to grow some ba!!s to referee wrestling.  He didn't see the rest of that tournament.

Does anyone remember the crazy mom video a few years ago?  "Rip his  head, Patrick!"

I remember the mom from the Merrillville semi and then at state who every match shrieked "Let's go Nicholas!" repeatedly the entire match. It never mattered what happened, that's all it was.

  6. There is only one lock.

    1. Tsirtsis

He is the only one who could overcome illness/injury/getting 'caught'/etc. and still win. As someone pointed out the rest would be more appropriately labeled as 'favorites'

I agree completely. He's always been on a different level, even facing tough competition as a freshman he has always had more poise and I just don't see anyone beating him at state this year. I wouldn't want to have to face Alex at holidays as "only" a 3-timer.

  7. Very strange comment. Losses to upperclassman whom are excelling at the collegiate level, and placing at Super 32 and winning several USAW titles in folkstyle. I think it is safe to say mitch is one of the most nationally recognized wrestlers indiana has ever had. Studs were in his way but his time has come...

When you watch his wrestler he doesn't look as dominant in folkstyle as he does in freestyle and greco. People were predicting a state title his freshman year, and for someone with his national credentials it may have been warranted. I think it says a lot that he's better in freestyle and greco and has the record and credentials he does, he's going to do very well in college I think, where freestyle and greco expertise gives a bigger advantage than high school, especially in Indiana.

  8. I would say National is bigger, but at the same time a lot of great wrestler can't afford to travel around to the big tournaments, so they're incomplete showings. As far as college success I would still take a national title over a state title any day. Now multiple state titles may speak differently.
