  1. Again, then why do we class the team state duals?
  2. Wow, so vindictive. I don't really and never have understood how having class wrestling is fair for the teams, but not fair for the individual. Wrestling is comprised literally of one on one matches that combine to make a team score. If it is fair for each individual to be held up against any wrestler (of the same weight) in the state, why is it not fair that a group of individuals be held up against any other group of individuals in the state? If you, in fact think team state duals should be de-classed, then disregard this post.
  3. With no real lengthy consideration, I have listed my knee-jerk picks. Left out Culver kids intentionally. 106 -- Trent NP 113 -- Freestone NP 120 -- Chaffin JT 126 -- Crume JT 132 -- Frey JG 138 -- Krause KX 145 -- MacLeod NP 152 -- Escobedo NP 160 -- Dodson JG 170 -- Adams JT 182 -- Wieglos KX 195 -- Sustaita KX 220 -- Ayers JG 285 -- Coffel BR
  4. Are those questions separate? Sectional and Regional in particular could be quite tough and not necessarily have anyone in the running for a state title. On the other hand, either could be loaded with potential champs, but not be overall very tough to qualify out.
  5. If we are going to anecdotal about this, then I will throw in that against Jeremiah Harvey, it was a terrible idea to attempt a leg attack.
  6. That would work if Vision Quest didn't suck:}
  7. I feel like a couple days ago I found out the really hot girl in school likes me...and then today I learned it was actually my best friend that she likes.
  8. It definitely doesn't hurt the school without a JV team unless another school wants to discredit the matches wrestled against a JV team later in the season. I think the issue is, if a school has two different teams representing on the same Saturday, how can they both be counted as varsity matches? Either both are varsity and the school has used 4 weigh-in points (feel free to discuss whether this is a correct application of the rules, but I think that it is), or the "B" team is participating in JV matches, which should not count toward any one's win-loss record.
  9. Good job Zebras on filling the 16 teams after team staters were taken out.
  10. Problem with your logic is, taking drinks during weigh-in is clearly against the rules. There is actually a rule that prohibits drinking during weigh-in.
  11. This same thought came to my mind. This is a practice that is done at some mid-season tournaments and helps to loosen things up.
  12. LANNY POFFO! That made my day.
  13. I am not sure about worrying about points, but I do wish these kinds of rules would be enforced more rigidly. Whether that is school administrators, the referees, who ever.
  14. I totally understand and agree with you are saying, but people on the other side of an argument almost never let you make comparisons like that. Almost like our brains are programmed to reject it.
  15. I understand, but I am saying if you think it is OK for an opposing coach to go to the official to alert him to a weigh-in violation regardless of circumstances (which is the impression I got from you), then is it necessary dissect exactly what was said to the wrestler? I say no. If you say yes, then we can agree to disagree. If I got the wrong impression, then disregard what I have said. It is irrelevant. I aint mad at ya.
  16. Seems that your point is that the justification of busco calling another coach cowardly hinges on whether or not he told his kid to stop drinking. I very much disagree with this. Regardless of what busco told the wrestler, the opposing coach is not cowardly and did not do something wrong. I think busco can be flatly disagreed with without getting into the semantics of what exactly he told his wrestler.
  17. I think it is an acceptable stance for one to say he personally would inform the coach first, but that the same person feels it is OK for a different coach to make the decision to go to an official first.
  18. To be honest, whether the wrestler was told to put the water away, take another drink, never drink again, or to recite a verse of Killing Me Softly, that doesn't change the cowardice (or lack of) of the reporting coach. I feel there was no cowardice, but regardless, I do not see that related to the request/demand placed upon the wrestler.
  19. I see busco's point here. There is a difference in telling a wrestler to put something away and specifically saying, "You can't have that, it's a rules violation." As I have read it, that is the point he has been making from the beginning...that is the mistake he made. Instead of specifically saying why to put the water away and specifically not to take another drink, he simply said to put the water away aka stop jacking around. Why would a teenager interpret that as, "No water during weigh-in"?
  20. What are the criteria for telling the difference? I know, I know, "common sense" but that isn't really criteria. And with no criteria for when a rule can be broken and when it cannot, what is to stop people from saying, "Oh, well I didn't think he was trying to gain weight," whether they know better or not?
  21. As has been stated by the originator of this thread, a question was asked and input was sought. All of the criticism toward those who say "rules are rules" leads me to believe that the criticizers don't really want an opposing view point. Additionally, by the logic of many on here, you can only suggest someone follow a rule if you always follow it yourself. I don't know about the rest of you, but living that way would make it tremendously difficult for me to be an effective teacher, coach, or father.
  22. Agreed. If I had to choose between Friday night wrestle backs and SS wrestle backs, I would choose SS. Being a top 8 talent and not placing (but qualifying) seems more fair than being top 16 and not qualifying at all.
  23. You really don't think the views are equally represented in this thread? I haven't gone back and counted how many have posted on each side of the argument, but it seems that there are about half dozen on each side. If this rule (or any rule) is intended to be a "common sense" interpretation, it would be given a vague general description. No drinking water during weigh in does not seem like a vague description.
  24. We had a wrestler at regional last year who was controlling his match and winning. He had been riding tough for about a minute of the second period when his opponent got to feet. Our guy stepped between the guys leg and the opponent grabbed our guy's leg, scooped and our guy rolled back (still in control) and for a brief moment had shoulders on the mat. The ref sees this and quickly calls defensive pin. In the spirit of the rule, should the ref have just let it go? I mean, our guy's shoulders were down less time than some offensive pins are missed.
