  1. The best advice I could give you would be to think about additional teaching endorsements to make yourself as valuable as possible. I have a friend that majored in Secondary Ed social studies at Ball State but also minored in special education. He has been working as a special education teacher in Kokomo since we graduated in 1993. Coaching can make you more desirable but endorsing in other educational areas is often a bigger incentive to hire a candidate as you can teach a wide variety of areas. Good luck!
  2. Mishawaka Brewing Company-restaurant did close but the pub is still open for the next few months. Another good mexican restaurant is Fiesta Tapitia on 20 just down the road from Mazatlan, though I also like Mazatlan. Main St. Grille is a little high class (meaning pricing) for us wrestling types. Doc's is good and is right next door to Main St. Grille.
  3. It seemed like a lot of the matches that Mishawaka lost, we started out strong in the first period but were struggling by the 3rd (either winded or injured). Match at 135 we shouldn't have lost in my opinion. We were up 6-5 with about 2 seconds left and ref called a reversal for the Penn kid giving him a 7-5 victory. It was a questionable call as I didn't think our kid had lost control. Fun night though!
  4. Let's go Cavemen! Time to defend the home mat and rock the house!
  5. It doesn't bother Mishawaka fans that Brad is the coach. There are a lot of coaches in the Michiana area that have Caveman ties. Someone else mentioned it in another post. Wrestling is the one sport where we have the attitude edge over Penn. The attitude edge that I refer to is when a school knows that there is no way you are going to beat them. They will fight tooth and nail to get the victory. Penn has it in football and baseball. Mishawaka has it in wrestling.
  6. In the 8th grade, John Hall was our coach at Young Middle School in Mishawaka. This was 1980. The night before a meet everyone would meet to weigh in after practice before going home so you knew your weight situation. We had a kid wrestling around 140. When he weighed in, he was only an ounce or two below weight. Coach Hall said, "don't eat anything." Kid said ok. We were in the locker room after school the next day for weigh in before the meet. He steps on the scale and is a pound over weight. Coach Hall asked him what he ate. He said, "Coach I didn't eat anything at all last night until bedtime. Then I was starving so all I had was a gallon of ice cream." I thought Coach Hall's head was going to explode. Needless to say the kid had to sit that meet out.
  7. Thanks for bringing this nightmare memory back. 9th grade, 1981, wrestling against LaPorte. I was a heavyweight. The kid slapped me in a bear hug, threw me to the mat, and pinned me in 8 seconds. As I walked off the mat with my head hung in shame, my coach started to say, "this is what you have to do to counter that move" and I said, "little too late to tell me now coach!"
  8. Some old school Caveman wrestlers that should be considered for the Mishawaka team would be John Hall and Henry Wilk.
  9. I think that the rankings look awesome! Keep up the great job and the great information!
  10. My friend said she thinks the score was Mishawaka 72 Adams 6
  11. There has been nothing posted in the Tribune and I haven't heard anything. The PE teacher where I work (Family and Children Center in Mishawaka) is the assistant athletic trainer at MHS. I will ask her and try to get something posted.
  12. I graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1985.
