There's no rivalry here... partners from a young age and always pushed each other hard in practice.  These two were battle tested and mentally prepared for the state series run.  Knowing that these two would see each other at our Dual, County, Conference, Sectionals, Regionals, Semi-State and State only sold more popcorn at the events.  They had their battles on the mat and Asa got the best when it counted, but we're his biggest fans when he's not on the other side of the line.  Fun times and wouldn't have it any other way! #cwaog

My vote goes to Carson Willis, but it's hard to pick which year was the worst. This kid should have been a multiple time state placer, but had a murderer's row of Ticket Rounds.  His case alone should be all you need to add wrestle backs.

    2018 - Ty Mills (2,3,2,3)
    2017 - Graham Rooks (3,4,4,1)
    2016 - Brock Hudkins (5,SQ,1,1)
    2015 - Jacob Skaggs (SQ,8)

There is that Avon education getting put to good use, can't count to 3!  Wait, he's at the burg and we're teammates with TeamGarcia & MattyB too, WHAT?!?!?

    I'm surprised this is not the predictions of @TeamGarcia @Mattyb & @JMILL:
    1A - Hendricks County
    2A - Hendricks County
    3A - Hendricks County
    4A - Hendricks County

I'm gonna root for the Dogs to take home 4a and would love to see Columbus East come home with the 3a title!  Every team in the 1a and 2a are winners to me as well, great exposure!  Best of luck to all the teams participating and hope everyone stays healthy.

This is a great trip to help get your young wrestler to the next level.  Ty took this trip his 8th grade year and had a blast.  I was amazed at his maturity level and his wrestling abilities when he got back.  He went on to place at Pre-Season nationals and several other national tournaments in the months following.  There was a great mixture of Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco and he wrestled some of the top tier kids in the country.  Most of all, he really made some life-long friends that he still talks to today.  It's such an awesome feeling to be at some of his college tournaments and run into one of his OASWT teammates.  Ty was able to fund raise about 90% of his trip costs from the community and worked off the rest with chores around the house.

He was able to see and do so many things across the country that it was a once in a lifetime experience.  If you are interested, let me know and I can share more about our experiences.  The only downside was a picture of his cauliflower ear in the middle of Utah somewhere.. mom wasn't happy, but Ty loved it!

This is a very tricky question (thread) to reply to. In my humble opinion I don't know that there is a correct answer to the originally stated question. There are so many factors that go into competing at all collegiate levels. Does it count if a wrestler started DI and then transferred or stepped away from the sport after a year or two? One could respectfully debate the fact that some wrestlers take non-traditional paths into their college experiences now days. Additionally, many wrestlers arrive at their college choice only to find that it wasn't what they expected; or the coach who recruited them has now taken a different job; or academics trip them up; or an injury derails their college wrestling experience. There are numerous factors that play out as an 18 year-old embarks on a college wrestling journey. There can be many pitfalls along the way... as is there can be many rewards to be had if a little grit is demonstrated.

With athlete retention in mind I believe more wrestlers (and their parents) could do a better job of 1)researching a variety of schools before making a final selection; 2)working on their time management skills in MS and HS to better ensure "life success" in college; and 3)realizing that wrestling at any collegiate level is very grueling. As they say... "it's a job."  You have to love the sport, be willing to navigate set-backs, and have the ability to keep your eye on the ball.

In getting back to the original topic, DI wrestling isn't for everyone. It is absolutely best-practice for an athlete (and his/her parents) to be realistic in what level of collegiate wrestling they want to take part in. A productive and fulfilling wrestling experience can be had at all collegiate levels depending on what the student-athlete is after. As a reminder... it is college... so some level of academic achievement should be placed into the equation. A wrestler at a DIII college studying pre-med is obviously a different situation than a wrestler navigating the rigors of a Big Ten program and schedule. Two different scenarios... two different goals in mind... both are to be applauded.

I tip my hat to any young man or young lady that finishes 4+ years of collegiate wrestling at any level and walks away with memories, achievements, and a college degree.

Thanks... Ty's dinged up at the moment, but should be back in the lineup within the next week.  He's been taking some good beatings, but looking better every match and learning!!!  The scores may look pretty bad, but he's learning how to score and screw the boring 1-0 matches... score, score, score!!!  The dual tomorrow with Pitt should be on the ACCNX, but I don't think Duke has any primetime duals scheduled this year.  The ACCN is still dominated by football and basketball, but hopefully with the ACC knocking on the door with 5 top 25 teams in wrestling, it will fix itself.  Next year, Duke should be back in the mix with our Olympic redshirts back and more depth in the lineup.

On another note, I'm just amazed at how talented all of our Indiana boys are after seeing the competition Ty's faced.  Brayton, Mason, Nick, CJ, Brock, Cael, both Drew's, the Rooks, etc... are freaking STUDS, there are NO easy matches in D1.  Plus, we have lots more on the cusp of making the lineup... very exiting!  Proud to be a Hoosier on the mat!

I think they are still getting things figured out with redshirts and the weights.  He won his initial wrestle-off at 141, but another kid who has been 149 may be dropping to 141 and Ty lost that match at a 146 catch-weight.  He's a tiny 141 and would probably drop to 133 if the coaches thought that was in the team's best interest, but I know they are trying to bulk him up.  He wants to be in the starting lineup and we'll just have to compare the results over the next several tournaments and see what shakes out before our dual season starts.  Either way, just glad he's back on the mat and ready to take his lumps (and give some!) while he adjusts to the college style.

@141 Ty Mills, Duke draws 2x NCAA Qualifier and NCAA All-American, #15 Sa'Darien Perry as his first collegiate match and loses 0-6.  Then gets majored his next match for the official dip.  Almost 18 months since he last competed, so happy to see him back on the mat.
@149 Bryton Goering, Presbyterian loses his first match and is winning his consolation match, but gets caught.

I don't want to speak on behalf of his family, but I believe he had to medically retire due to his injury last year.  He's still at Duke and was cheering on the team during wrestle-offs last weekend.  He is a great kid and partner and it sucks that he won't be with the team this year.
