  1. You forgot one... Avon MS to Brandon HS, FL!
  2. Yep, not taking anything away from Asa, his hand was raised at the end of the match. Ty had been under the weather this week and missed a couple of days of school, but thought he could pull it out. However, in the heat of the battle he couldn't keep it down... (sorry Asa!). Nothing a little rest can't fix and he'll be back at it...
  3. Let the teachers teach... Let the coaches coach... Let the parents make the decision on what is best for their FAMILY... not just their student athletes, but their entire FAMILY... ... AND keep the over empowered IHSAA out of our personal decisions! At the end of the day, the parents are responsible for raising their children, not the school, not the teacher and not the coaches. Although they each should all be positive role models in these students lives and support the parents in whatever decisions they choose to make. When a coach or school administrator undermines a decision the parent has made for their family, it really just shows how broken the system can become.
  4. Thoughts go out to his family. Ty wrestled Levi a couple of times when they were younger. We didn't get to know him well, but always seemed like a great kid.
  5. We have always loved attending this tournament. In my opinion, it is one of the trips to Battle Creek that is actually worth it in terms of great competition. They typically pull in studs from our regional area, but also get some from Florida and the East coast kids. The coaching pass cost was rather ridiculous if I remember, but oh well... Here is a breakdown of the state placers by bracket. It's no IHPO, but it is certainly a great way to prep for the season. http://www.michigangrappler.com/news_article/show/495244-gfc-by-the-numbers
  6. Congrats to the NHSCA Academic All Americans... these boys get it done in the classroom and the mat! 7. I am still assuming based upon the lack of response by the ISWA and since there is NO CHANGE to the State Flyer published on iswa.com, that “All participants must compete in a minimum of 2 Local level Freestyle tournaments in order to compete at the State event.“ At this point, we are still undecided if we will register for State or not, but based upon the number registrations for Central Regionals, we probably have no choice but to attend. I believe that wrestling these styles makes a more rounded wrestler and exposes flaws in their Folkstyle technique. I also believe the 2 required qualifications did help boost local attendance this year as the 2 tournaments we attended had some of the best completion we’ve seen over the last several years at these events. However, I certainly would support a “well-documented and well-communicated” waiver process for those with injuries or those who compete on a National Level. If there really was change in direction by the ISWA to allow waivers this year, I’m sure it was a decision based upon the number of participants registered and the possibility of losing money on hosting the State event. If they lose money, then we might not ever have this event in the future. However, if next year they come out with the same ruling and say “This year we’re serious!”, I’m going to be very skeptical that things won’t cave in with low registration projections. It’s frustrating that I wasn’t replied to when I originally inquired and that no communication has been publicized either on this board (other than Joe's letter), the ISWA website, on Facebook or Twitter. Regardless of their stance, I think an official statement would help clear the muddy waters. Who knows how many of these waivers were actually applied for and accepted.
  8. Wow... straight up bull crap by the ISWA. I sent an email to Mr. Rosbottom and Coach Hull about a waiver for my son on March 8th because of the National Schedule we were attending. I received ZERO response back... In addition, Ty was injured while wrestling in Virginia and rushed back this past weekend to get our 2nd qualifier in so he could attend Freestyle/Greco state. If I would have known there was any type of waiver process, I certainly would have applied to the ISWA to give him an extra week to heal up. I love how the letter was dated April 29... that's TODAY! Nice communication skills... we abided by the rules as they were stated and would have expected everyone else in the state to abide by them as well. Now, with 1 day left to register, the ISWA changes their tune. Ridiculous!

  10. I think it would only be appropriate if the shirt designs were #handpicked by my family. We don't want to get anything that looks cheap and #handmade.
  11. I was just trying to be humble... but thanks for the update! #ourshadesaredarker
  12. While Brownsburg continues to play second fiddle to the mass marketing hype of Avon, let me point out our results from this past weekend. 1st - 4, 2nd - 1, 3rd - 4, 4th - 2, 5th - 3, 6th - 1, 7th - 1, 8th - 1 #udothemath It will be a fun battle for the next several years as both of these programs are doing their best to keep the top spot in the county.
  13. I actually submitted this idea to the ISWA for consideration earlier this week, but I have not heard back from them yet. Hopefully, I'll hear back soon...
  14. My family was talking about some of the teams that Ty has been on and all the familiar names that we saw at State this past weekend. I went back to look at Ty’s first National Elementary team and was amazed at the talent that Indiana sent to Kingsport between Team Red Cobra, Indiana Brawlers and the Indiana Elite. Although some of these kids are no longer wrestling in Indiana, the majority of them are all still wrestling and doing so at a very high level. Years ago, I remember looking at some of these types of pics when the teams included Escobedo, Tsirtsis, etc. For all the families that have youth wrestlers attending these events in the coming months, sit back and enjoy the ride...

  16. Lake Erie is getting a great wrestler who no matter what the score is can hit the big move to seal the deal, but most importantly, they are getting a great kid. Whether he was messing with his dad at one of the local tournaments or wearing that Alaskan singlet and sports-goggles, he always found time to come say Hi whenever he saw us at a meet. Rivals or not, best of luck to Quinn this week and I hope to see him on the podium to finish his HS career!

  18. Here are my thoughts... Pros: Awesome competition at all levels, I hope we can continue to attract this level of out of state competition with the relatively low support shown from Indiana teams this year. Very nice venue, the exhibition halls were huge and the arena seemed very nice. Showed the HS and younger wrestlers that there are plenty of non-D1 colleges that offer very competitive wrestling at the next level. It was great to hear the crowd go crazy during some of the college placement matches. The announcers did a great job of highlighting some of the premiere matchups going on through the college division. Cons: Price... I'm not sure about the team fees, but for a spectator, it was very expensive compared to a local HS event. $5-$10 to park, $20 admission, plus very high priced concessions. My opinion is if you're going to charge a ton for admission, then concessions should be reasonable or vice versa. Although the exhibition halls were massive, they did lack a little bit of seating around the HS mats. Basically, it left the parents to stand around mat side... then security would come by and ask everyone to step back. It would have been nice to have some additional seating around mats 23 and 24. Overall, I'm glad our team was exposed to the competition at this level. The boys battled their best and I sure hope we are back next year with the same level of out of state competition.
  19. The Mat Mayhem tournament should produce a ton of solid wrestling matchups. With only 6 teams entered, hopefully we can get a Round Robin format so we get to face each team.
