  1. I met Jim when I first began officiating in 2000. I considered him one of my mentors when I began officiating. He was a great official. He was, also, a wonderful man. RIP Jim.
  2. This meet should be off the hook. 152 with the most ranked wrestlers. Several weight classes could see wrestlers meeting again in the state championship match. This year's Al Smith should be a great one.
  3. Mauneja, I would let the ISWA know you went through a background check and see what they say.
  4. As for the background check, the ISWA wants the people coaching the wrestlers are not people who would harm them. IHSAA officials are required to go through a background check every year when they renew their licenses. As for the USA membership & copper card, someone in the ISWA can answer that.
  5. No tv info as of yet. Keep checking Rutgers' athletic page ScarletKnights.com for any updates, including tv broadcast possibilities.
  6. Last season, Iowa & Oklahoma State opened the wrestling season outdoors at Iowa. This November, Rutgers & Princeton are going to start their respective wrestling seasons outdoors. Below is a link to an article that talks about this upcoming outdoor meet: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2016/May/09/Rutgers-Wrestling-Princeton-to-wrestle-in-High-Point-Solutions-Stadium
  7. Maybe more custodians. When I am not officiating, I work as a custodian. Most of the time, custodians who work on weekends during sports events volunteer to do it. Sometimes, it is mandatory. The schools decide how many are needed per event. At any meet I go to, I always try to thank the custodians, not because they do a job hardly anyone would do, but because I am one of them, too.
  8. Rex, You & Bonnie are in our prayers. Matt & Eileen Worthington
  9. To the meets still going on today (Jan. 25, 2014), be safe getting there, have a good day of wrestling & good sportsmanship, & be safe going home.
  10. I played football & wrestled in high school. I can truly say wrestling helps you in football in terms of teaching you to use leverage against your opponent. As for football helping you in wrestling, it reinforces the need to know what you are doing in terms of skill and strategy. You got to know how to block, tackle, understand the playbook, etc. in football. In wrestling, you got to know how to do single & double leg takedowns, how to use a cradle, half-nelson, etc. to pin an opponent, and how to get up after your opponent takes you down. If a young man in high school has the opportunity to compete in both sports, I'd encourage him to do so.

  12. I read the story. That's two minutes of my life I'll never get back.
  13. I'm glad the announcers of the Penn State-Nebraska dual will not be calling the Big Ten Tournament.
  14. The following link from the IHSAA website for the results of the State Team Finals: http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/Sports/Boys/Wrestling/201112/TeamStateTournament/201112StateFinalsRecap/tabid/1141/Default.aspx

  16. The following link is to get the results from the IHSAA website: http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/Sports/Boys/Wrestling/201112/IndividualStateTournament/tabid/1118/Default.aspx Click the link above, then click "Semi-State", and then click "Results" next to the semi-state location. It lists who placed from 1st to 6th. No match scores. If anyone has match scores, post them.

  19. An IHSWCA Dual Invite to replace the State Team Tournament does sound like a very good idea. A potential problem would be on when to hold the invite. First Saturday of the year would not be a good time to hold it. It would be good for the teams that get to participate have some meets under their belt. I could see the third or fourth Saturday in December, as long as it doesn't fall on Christmas, or during winter break as the best possible times to hold the invite. some of the top teams compete in tough dual tournaments like the Chris Traicoff Meet during the second or third Saturday in December or the 32 team dual tournament in Connersville held during winter break and might have to decide whether or not to pull out of those meets for a proposed IHSWCA Dual Invite. I do not believe where to have the meet would not be as big of a problem. A central location like Warren Central, Ben Davis, or Center Grove could host the invite. Those schools have the size and facilities to host a proposed IHSWCA Dual Invite. If the IHSWCA decides to put together an invite to replace the State Team Tournament, I wish you guys well and hope you succeed in making it happen.

  22. We can all learn a valuable lesson here. Do NOT pick up road kill and put it with the team bags of the vehicle you are traveling in on the way to a wrestling tournament. If you want to pick up the road kill, come back and get it after the wrestling tournament. LOL
  23. Individual Regional Results from the IHSAA website are on the following link: http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/Sports/Boys/Wrestling/201011/IndividualStateTournament/tabid/953/Default.aspx Click "Regional" and click "Results" next to the Regional site you want to look at. Note: As of this posting, not all Regional results have been posted yet. All Regional results should be in by the end of the night.
