horseofadifferentcolor reacted to maligned in Team State qualification leaderboard 2024 (FINAL thru State)
Here is the final Team State qualification leaderboard for 2024.

Teams highlighted have earned automatic bids into the event next year. That's the 3 best semi-state winners plus the next 3 best scores in 4A and all 4 semi-state winners plus the next 4 best scores in 1A, 2A, and 3A.
(Note: The final 2A spot came down to the 3rd tiebreaker (most underclass ticket rounders) after points, most underclassmen, and most underclass state qualifiers were equal.)

The final 2 berths in 4A and the final 4 berths in 1A, 2A, and 3A will be voted on in December.

Teams with a star (*) next to their school name had injury points added in.

File with all 4 weeks' updates plus enrollment and classification numbers: Team State Classification & Leaderboard 2024.xlsx

Yeah, our past way of discussing "greatest ever" where we put Tsirtsis over Escobedo because Escobedo had a loss (out of state to a kid highly ranked in the nation)--has to get completely thrown out the window now. I mean Hockaday, our #1-ranked pound-for-pound kid, got a DNP at the Iron Man. If he goes on to win a 4th title, continues to improve nationally, and ends up a multiple-time college All-American--do we put him behind historical guys who had only 2 or 3 career losses but didn't compete out of state, just because of the record in the state finals program? It's definitely a new era.

They gave Indiana some love today when they were answering questions from listeners.

Ben Askren and Christian Pyles named us as a top 5 hardest state to win State in. Then they mentioned us as one of the best state championship atmospheres. And then they shouted out Ocampo for placing!

This was an incredible weekend of wrestling, and the Brownsburg Bulldogs and coaching staff earned it.  Congrats Coach Snyder and team.  Love competing and coaching against you guys, and the purple dogs deserve all the praise and celebration.

Brownsburg and Center Grove showed up and competed hard.  Congrats to both of those great teams and coaching staffs.

Just wanted to say the Rioux Fam appreciate all the kind words! Unbelievably proud of Luke and Nate for all their hard work and Luke for getting it done... even if he had to call me out in the interview afterwards!

Congratulations to Luke Penola for winning the mental attitude award at the state finals. Luke didn’t reach his goal of winning a state title but he walked out of the arena with his head held high. He is one of the best leaders, wrestlers, and people we’ve ever been around. We are forever grateful to of coached you and to have you in our Zionsville wrestling family.

So, I sit here at 4:40 am CST and I'm dead tired, but I can't sleep.  I've already made the drive back to NWI, so that drive from hell is behind me.  The hot dogs.  Pretty damn good.  The concession stand I used to buy my dogs made them to order, so, they were fresh.  They grilled them on something, they had a nice char, nice buns even without yoga pants, a good overall product.  Just one small gripe.  They were expensive.  $7 a pop for these bad boys.  Oh well.  7 slices of pizza outta 8.  Kinda a side note, I mentioned this in a reply, but I was told Hanover Central are looking into changing their hot dogs because of my review.  One day my friends, we will have the hot dogs we deserve at all wrestling meets across the great state of Indiana!  And, as always, thank you for reading.✌️✌️✌️

This is showing my age but James Tannehill (sp?) was a big influence and figure in Indiana Wrestling when I competed and first started coaching.  Saw him almost every weekend!

I'll always mention Jim Ledbetter on Black recognition threads. Wise, caring, thoughtful father-like figure to so many wrestlers, young coaches, and young officials. One of the best coaches and one of the best officials I've ever been around.

Around 10 years ago, the NFHS changed/clarified the rule that allows coaches to default their wrestler at any time - even during recovery time.  Before that change, the only way to "do the right thing" would be to have the injured wrestler line up for the ref to blow the whistle then stop the match to default - which is even more dangerous for the injured wrestler.  It was a good rule change designed for rare situations exactly like this one.

I know it was mentioned once, but the 144 lb EC final was a treat to watch.  You see the 4-2 score and think it might've been a boring affair, but nothing could be further from the truth.

I mean Switzerland County Vevey, IN isn't a big place to visit, but if you want to make the trip I'm sure they have someplace interesting to eat at.   Switzerland (County) hasn't been doing too bad lately for a small school.  Several dedicated youth kids now filtering through the HS system.  Their relative location is close to Cincinnati and near the decent side of Kentucky Wrestling maybe  providing them some off-season training options as well.

Not sure why Paul Clark was trying to turn Beck with 20 seconds to go in the match. Could have just rode him out for a 3-1 victory in regulation.

Clark v Beck was gold.  I thought Beck had 2 in OT, maybe if we would have turned toward the head and thrown a cross face in they would have given it

Decisive victory by a very tough Rochester squad in the final dual over a very solid Cathedral team (45-22).  Very good wrestling from teams from all around the state (Avon, Columbus East, EMD, Tell City, Westfield, Ev North, North Posey, Edgewood, Bloomington S, Laf Jeff, TH North, Ev Mem and Owen Valley).  The event was VERY well run and know they are looking to grow it in the years to come!
