Lately, I’ve been stressing as the state tournament series progresses and I will be relieved once state is over. I just want to see the kids I’ve put the time into be successful, but I get 100 times more nervous for them than I ever did myself, and the idea of seeing them disappointed pains me. It’s what makes me not want to coach much after this year because wrestling is emotional as is, and I can’t bear to witness them not get what they want. Is this normal?

I am sure it has been mentioned before, but if you get to where you do not feel bad when j=kids do not reach their goals or potential, you need to get out of the game.

  2. I am so glad my kid wrestled before this started. He wrestled a few kids many times, sometimes winning, sometimes losing. I like to think of those parents as my friends, even to this day. It is unfortunate that some parents live through their kids on the mat. Some of you who knew me then might be surprised, but I always wanted friends more than conquests.

I think each school that has a wrestler represented should get X amount of tickets together per wrestler (maybe 8 or 10).  These could be allotted to family of the wrestlers first, then whoever is decided after that.

Put all these seats in prime locations - this would guarantee that family and close friends get a great view.  After that, tickets are up for grabs - people can use the buying together strategies to do the best they can to get close seating

Unfortunately, this would require way too much planning, as the mat assignment would play into what are considered good seats. If a wrestler is on mat 4, those seats would be much different than if they were on mat 1. I don't think anyone is going to go through that much effort to make sure that schools get the right sections. not to  mention schools who have several wrestlers, and getting to each one.

I would be very careful and concerned with this idea.  My experience of football coaches is they want their football players running track in the spring.  I’ve seen it time and time again.

And if you are at a "football" school, they want their kids lifting year round. Most football coaches do not want to share their talent with other sports.

Yes, he developed them in HS and it really hindered his development in HS.. His parents are great ppl with his dad Bob battling cancer but doing a lot better and he still roots on the current few studs we have.. His older brother really could've been good Mikey but I'll keep our personal lives out of it, he just couldn't be coached.

That happens, it is unfortunate, but we all go through that at various times. My son was not the easiest to coach sometimes. Glad to hear that bob is doing better.

I know Bisdorf really well. He wrestled for my uncle and was very tough. Mike ross was super athletic I believe he is the police chief in Marion now.

I always wrestled Dustin Bennet. He may have some iswa freestyle/folk titles as well if I remember correctly. He won ncc freshman/soph. I got him junior/senior. My freshman and soph year Dulaney was still the assistant at NC they were legit. My junior year they got mullins and campbell and got even better.

I did not know that about Dusty, my son wrestled him so many tines in ISWA events. I always wondered what happened to him.  His mom and dad were good people, and dusty was a great kid.

  7. Carmel and Center Grove align more with the schools in the HCC than they do with the MIC. There are many factors, least of which is racial, foremost is the relative income levels of the parents of the schools involved. They will create a conference that rivals MIC in terms of football, and most likely exceed them in other sports. Carmel will be the driving force in that, Center Grove being second, and nobody in the HCC will ever again win a girls swimming conference championship besides Carmel, but that is not changed from when they were in the MIC.

So I was having a discussion with a wrestling buddy of mine and we couldn't come to an agreement so... now I bring it to you.

What does your school consider note worthy? ?

Some schools put a kids name up on the wall in a wrestling room just for going to state... others only if you place... others still only if you are top 2.

Some schools anyone who goes to state gets a photo out by the athletic department.  Others only if you win

A good example I can think of is at indian creek if you go to state in any sport you get a photo up on the wall in the athletic hall. But at Warren to get a photo up on the wall you need to be top 2.

Also noticed some sports like track and cross county  hand out medals/ titles for being top 12 or top 16

Love to hear any thoughts... or comments

At warren you get your name on a board in the wrestling room for placing at state.

Yeah I think most people were saying Egli got the short end of that draw after getting a semi-state title.  Either way Cottey ended up being the top of that weight group.

without question, he is a stud, and will do well at the next level.

I think what makes me angry about this match is watch the punk from Anderson’s demeanor after he slams Alex. Walks off with a smirk and can be seen smiling and shrugging while Alex is laying on the mat. News flash slamming a kid in his head because your losing 10-3 isn’t cool. Rant over.

I was working the table during this match. I did not see the Anderson kid doing this, but admittedly my focus was on Cottey and if he was ok. If that is the case, I will see the Anderson coach, and talk to him about this behavior.
