  1. Would use of a condom be considered stalling?
  2. Something that worked for us when my son was that age, and still to this day, if you can accomplish it since you are coaching so many other kids. I was a parent for 1/2 hour after a tough loss, or a good win. After that, both he and I had time to settle down and put a little perspective on the situation. Then you can be a coach to him. Like I said, my situation was different, as everyones is, but it is an idea for you.
  3. I would agree, all you can ask of anyone either in wrestling or not, is to work hard, and to try and become better. The kids that give you the most joy would have to be that kid that never wins, comes in and works his butt off for you and never complains about it. And then to see them reach a goal whatever it is has got to be the best feeling in the world. The best wrestler with a horrible attitude is just that, but a bad wrestler with a great outlook on life is so much more then they realize. I saw a kid a couple of weeks ago at the JV meet in Beech Grove. This kid due to physical defec
  4. Those rankings kinda make the 130 class at marion county look kinda tough this weekend, # 1 at 125, #3,4,6 at 130 all in the same bracket.
  5. That would require them to care about a sport that does not use either pointy, or bouncy balls. I know at our school, that is the case. Wrestling is something that they put up with, not something to be taken seriously, and certainly nothing to take any time with trying to support. I really think they are the ones to make this sport get reach out there to more of the public/fans. just my opinion No question they are an integral part of getting the support that is needed. I see it in schools that have great programs, there is a level of support from the school staff that is missing
  6. Talk to some of the high school coaches in the area to see if they can help you set up a club that runs correctly, failing that, go outside your area to some nearby schools and see what kind of help is there. This is some of the problems that our sport faces, teachers, and administrations not supporting the development of young wrestlers. Depends on what side of Lafayette that you live on as to who might be in the best position to help you.

  8. Ok, being devils advocate here, let me set the situation, then you let me know if you still want your son to not stall. Under the lights at conseco, having never made it to the finals, in his senior year, he is up 5-4 going into the 3rd period, and has chioce. He chooses down. He can either appear to be busy on bottom but not really try to get up, or he can hit it hard and get stuck on his back for a 2 or 3 point near fall while attempting an escape. Do you wish for him to give away a state title instead of wrestling smart and securing the win? I would argue that your son ha
  9. I am betting your wife wont like that one bit..... But seriously folks, as long as the child enjoys it, I would say let them start as soon as they want, I have been in rooms for a long time, and have seen just about everything from 1st year kids that are 14-15, to kids as young as 3-4 in the room rolling around. I would say that if they are exposed to it at a young age, you do need to protect against burning them out. I know for the 1st few years of my sons wrestling, it was always up to him if he went, or where he went, within reason. My daughter wanted to do what her big brother did,

  11. Here is a copy of what the Indy Star has for a lead in to the Marion, and Johnson county and city tournaments that are going on this weekend. Not to complain, atleast they put the times in there. Wrestling Third-ranked Perry Meridian has 10 wrestlers seeded either first or second in this weekend's Marion County wrestling tournament, so the host Falcons look like the team to beat. But they should get plenty of competition from No. 8 Lawrence North and No. 17 Roncalli. Wrestling begins at 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. The Johnson County Tournament for wrestling begins at
  12. How did Grey end up as a 2 seed? I was wondering about that myself, the kid is a tough as nails wrestler that will win this going away. As will the Irish as a team. I predict they will win atleast 11 weight classes, maybe more.
  13. And we like the fact that he is down here teaching all those tricks. Ed is not only a great coach, he also teaches the young men how to become adult men. He preaches self reliance, accepting the results of your own actions, and that grades are more important then wrestling, and they will take you further.
  14. Wrestlers that are ranked according to this site that wil be here this weekend. 103 8) Jared McKinley 9 Perry Meridian 112 2) Brandon Nelsen 11 Lawrence North 4) Josh Kieffer 10 Roncalli 119 8) Justin Kieffer 10 Roncalli 125 1) Cashe Quiroga 12 Lawrence North (Wrestling 130 at County)* 16) Austin Marshall 12 Southport 130 3) D'Marcus Spencer 12 Pike 6) Nick Odom 12 Warren Central 12) Kirk Johnson 9 Perry Meridian (Wrestling 125 at County)* 135 9) Matt Rattay 10 Lawrence North 11) Chris Goodwin 12 Perry Meridian 140 9) Ja
  15. They are having great successm but they are also having a hard time figuring out that those are not handles that we were on our heads. But they are smart kids, and will figure that out pretty quickly.
  16. The Indy Star will run an article once in a great while, only for a large tournament, but otherwise not to good. They will never print the individule scores, only the team resuts of a meet. There online edition has a few more, but you have to know what you are looking for to find it.
  17. We pay for our club coaches cards, and upgrade clinics. We also have a reimbursement system in place for them to use to help offset the cost. It does not pay for their expenses, but it does help them out. We as a club have a decent income and it is available to us. In the past when we did not have as much cash, it was all on their own to get the cards, and clinics, with no reimbursement in place.
  18. The only seeds I know are the top for in the 130 weight class they are 1 Quiroga LN 2 Spencer Pike 3 Odom WC 4 Cook PM Looks to be a bear of a weight class.
  19. If you are going to bring all that, AND we have a foot of snow on the ground, talk to me, I am sure for the price of the drive, and sidewalks, I can get you down to conseco by 5:30 AM. Heck I might even spring for a cup of coffee on the way.
  20. Hoton the east side about a 10-15 minute drive to downtown. Baymont Inn 317-322-2000 Comfort Inn 317-359-9999 Fairfield Inn 317-322-0101 Hampton Inn 317-359-9900 Holiday Inn 317-359-5341 Quality Inn 317-352-0481 I dont know much about these hotelsother then they are decent looking from the outside. and there is a Starbucks just down the street on Shadeland Ave. for you coffee drinkers. The Holiday In has a Damons ribs attached to it. The fairfield also has a Marriott, and a LaQuinta as part of the property as well.

  22. Not sure if he has them right or not, but it seems to me that the people here in central Indiana dont care that much about rankings. Personally, I think they are nice, but in the end that only thing they do is put a target on your back, but most likely no more then was there anyway. If you are good the good guys know who you are and what they are going to have to do to win. If you are a freshman, or a move in and peole dont know much about you, again, if you are good they will know about you soon enough, and the rankings wont matter. Having said this, thanks coach Thornton, for the effort
  23. Until someone beats him Harper has got to be the #1 ranked kid. I dont know enough about Tsirtsis, other then what I read on here, so I would put him 4th for that reason. As for Cashe, and Brandon, both are outstanding wrestlers. I would give the edge to Cashe just because he is a senior, but this is a bout that I would enjoy being there to see. Both have hugh gas tanks, and I enjoy watching their aggressive attacking style. This could be a 1-0 match, or a 20-19 match. Either way, I would expect that if they wrestle 10 times, in my opinion Cashe would win atleast 6 of them. But you know what t
  24. OK, just to make sure here What on earth is so funny about someone "checking the oil", or a zit popping in the mouth... Dont any of you have stories that say involve someone doing something that is not disgusting. Since I have a horrible memory I can only remember one thing, I am sure most of you have seen something just as bad. During one of my sons middle school matches, the ref was a rather rotund fellow, the parents of both schools were tallking in the stands, and were actually afraid that he might hurt one of the kids when he went to the mat to check on a fall at some point i
