  1. You better put one in Ft Wayne that way we dont have an odd number at team state. I thought about doing that...But that would eliminate all the controversy and besides...7 is my lucky number and I am making the rules ;-) Fair enough, if i am gonna fish in your pond, I need to follow your rules........ ;D

  3. I can tell you honestly have never been at a small school before. Playing two or three sports is what is needed for all the sports to survive. We simply cannot horde the wrestlers or the football coach will do the same, the baseball coach and track coach will do the same too. We honestly have about 100-125 boys in the whole school that are athletes. We have to split those up between football, cross country and track in the fall, wrestling and basketball in the winter, and track, gold and baseball in the summer. There is no feasible way these kids can be single sport athletes. You are right, I graduated from Anderson back in 79, and was in a class that was over 600 kids. I truely have no idea what it is like at a small school. With that the way it is, I can honsetly say even at a small school, I dont see my son on the football team, or track team, and God knows I tried to get him to hit a curve ball.
  4. You say that like it is a bad thing. Nothing better then a little wrestling on Valentines day. ;)
  5. Specializing does help kids, there is no question about that. I would not sell short the value of being able to play 2-3 sports in HS, and being the bmoc at a smaller school. There is a lot to be said for that as well. It is a choice that they must all make. Do they want to specialize, and go for a little more personal glory, or do they want to play alot of sports, and be a great athlete in their community. However one thing that I would say as much as anything is the time some of them spend working out in some of the top notch outside programs we have in this state. I am partial to CIA, and would reccommend getting into one of Ed's camps, or weekly workouts as soon as possible. The other thing that has haelped is getting the older kids to teach the newer kids. When kids see that one of the varsity wrestlers cares enough to spend time with them, it makes them feel good, and by coaching, it helps the varsity wrestler get better by actually figuring out why something works.
  6. They could still play soccer or run cross country if they are smaller kids. I would honestly say at Garrett 85% of the athletes are multiple sport athletes. You can't say that at Warren Central. You are correct, by our kids specializing in one sport here, we get more kids varsity letters . So maybe the answer is not class sports, but limiting the number of sports a kid can be in to 2. That way you get more kids involved across the board. Seriously though, the reason why most kids only do one sport here has as much to do with the competition to get a varsity spot here, due to the size of the school then anything else.
  7. Thats easy, starve a cold, feed a fever.......
  8. No, 1/2 of us would want the research to go in one direction, the other 1/2 would want it to go in another. ;D
  9. Here at Warren, we have a few kids from the football team, only one on varsity that I know of. and a few kids that were on jv for both, or freshmen. Once they begin to excel at football, there is some pressure to work on that alot more. We even had one kid that is a varsity wrestler get put in a room full of football players for a weight lifting class, and the coach was upset with him because he did not want to do the bulk building stuff his football players were doing. And this is from a football coach that came to us from the Evansville area, you would think he would have realized that in the middle of wrestling season, it might not be the best thing to be working on building bulk. Most of the 2 sport athletes that we have are football/track. A few football/baseball. That is about it. I think at a small school, the pressure is different because you are a great athlete, and could help most any sport team you were on, so all the coaches are trying to get you to go out for their team, wheras at a large school, it seems to be the one coach that you are a star for wants you all to himself. I know that football coach and that seems odd that he wants people to not do bulk lifting. Though i know that when he was here his football players who wrestled were 189, 215, and HWT. When you are a middle weight, 125 up through 152, bulk may not be the best for you during the season though. He had a very hard time grasping that situation tyhat the kid was actually trying to cut weight. Bulk on the football team, great, bulk on the wrestling mat, not so much.
  10. The other thing here is we dont have to many kids on the football team that could be in any weight class under 171. So the spots are somewhat limited. Unlike some of the smaller schools that have quite a few kids from 140 and up playing football. That in itself is going to limit the number of kids. Anyone under that size here has already come to the conclusion that they will never see the field so they either quit sports, or gravitate to another sport. But since we are usually a fairly decent football team, and dreams die hard, those kids stick with it through middle school and maybe their freshman year before they decide to stop trying to make the field. If they come out for wrestling we dont see them until their freshman, or sophmore year.

  12. The question you have to ask yourself is "what do we have high school athletics for?" Is it to find "one true champion" or is it some other reason? As in everything it is to find the best. As an individule, that means taking on all comers. As a team, there does have to be certain consessions made to the fact that larger schools should have better over all teams. It does take having more quality practice partners, people to step in when the varsity guy gets hurt and so on to make a great team. However an individule can and often has in this state taken it upon himself to say that nothing is going to stop him, and he is going to win state. That does not matter what size school you come from. Let me ask something here, who would be put on an all time best team from the state? I am guessing a few from EMD, and I know of atleast one from Hanover Central, both of those schools would be in the lower class if we had a 2-3 class system.
  13. I wonder what the becomes when you factor in sleep, eating, work, and other presonal functions that must be taken care of. That has to be 1 post every 2-3 minutes. Way to go AJ, that is dedication.
  14. I am not a fan of class sports, but. I would have no problem with a team tourney in the class format, but I like the all in one individule tourney. I mean we do break out weight classes for 14 different classes, so if we went to 2-3 classes for the team event, that would be ok.
  15. WOW!!! Now that's some fast typing See what typing so fast gets you, typos...lets try one post per 19.527439 minutes. You get a wahoo for catching it though.
  16. I looked all over the IHSAA site and nowhere did I see it stating the goals of the association were to have a "true champion." I am willing to bet that no where on that site did you see that they were money hungry fools either, but that is a different arguement. ;D
  17. I cant imagine a worse way to end your season. To not even get the chance to go out on the mat. I wish him all the best during his recovery.
  18. My closest approximation is 19.527439 posts per minute.
  19. As listed on the IHSAA web site for 4 class sports. I am not entirely sure which side this supports, but it is some nice numbers for all you number freaks out there to play with. If you are in favor of class wrestling, I guess you could say that since 5 of the 8 teams are from class 4, that shows a needc for class wrestling. If you are against class wrestling, you could say yes, 5 are from class 4A, but there are 3 from 3A and 2A, which shows a balance of power amopng team state finalists. Crown Point 2289 #14 4A Perry Meridian 2132 #23 4A Castle 1786 #43 4A Mishawaka 1692 #47 4A Indianapolis Cathedral 1286 #83 4A Roncalli 1111 #104 3A Bellmont 894 #127 3A Delphi Community 522 #224 2A 400 Schools listed for 2007-2011
  20. It is part of the school. Andersons Wigwam was part of that school as well until they closed a school on the south side of Anderson a quite a few years ago, and moved AHS to the old madison hights location. Now the wigwam is a stand alone facility with a few offices there as well as a pool in the complex. so you mean when New Castle has a basketball game, its in that stadium? Wow....hope they get alot of fans! Not sure if they sell it out any longer, but I have been in that facility when it was full, as well as the wigwam in Anderson when it was full. These were way back in the day, before class BB, when the NCC was consistently producing state teams as well as state champs quite a few years in the 70's and 80's
  21. I know but that was a softball, I had to take a swing at it....... ;D
  22. Wow, what a coincedence, 2 wrestlers with the exact same names, and virtually identical records winning state at the same weight. :
  23. I have my very own Indianamat.com computer program where I enter each wrestler and it calculates the percentile chance of moving on. Criteria are as follows Record Region Strength of Competition Shoe Size Mothers Maiden Name Known blood line to one Mr. Ditka Bench Press *If they were recruited Under-rated Over-Rated If they have "made any noise" this year Favorite shaved Ice Flavor As you can see it takes a little investigating, but pays out in the end! Its foolproof. *The user doesnt agree nor condone such ideas. If you take this serious, please punch yourself in the face. Why is everyone so interested in uncle mike?
