You need to get your son licensed, too! Hit me up and I'll use one of the scholarships to pay for  his license ;)

I would love that, nt sure he is a good candidate, he is out of town so often. As far as the scholarship, he is doing fine, cash is not the issue with him, it is time. But you are right, he would make a great official.

You would limit it to 16 entries in the 14 weights or 15 entries/13 weights whatever the weight classes are.

The biggest obstacle facing the #2 guy will be seeding and placement in the bracket since they likely won't have the matches against sectional opponents and such.

No, they wont, but there is a high likelihood that they will have hundreds of hours practicing with the #1 seed, and will in some if not a lot of cases be the 2nd best in the sectional, and in weaker regionals, might be the 2nd there as well. I know a kid that could have won sectional if he has been allowed to be entered as a 2nd string kid.

I don't mind the 13 weight classes, but they are doing very little to tackle the issue of forfeits.

The three most forfeited weight classes are 106, 113, and 120 over the course of 2015-2019. This does nothing for those weight classes, instead it eliminates 182 so thus combining 195(4th most forfeited) and 182(9th most forfeited).

If we want to artificially affect the forfeit numbers the lowest weigh needs to be something like 110lbs. Increasing the lowest weights by 1lb will do nothing to the forfeit numbers.

OR we can tackle the REAL issue and look at how to increase participation. If we want to help participation we need to look at having the ability to enter multiple kids per weight at sectional. Something like 15 kids for 13 weights with no more than 2 per weight. This will help keep kids out for the sport longer and also keep kids from cutting drastic amount of weight to get into the lineup.

Interesting with the 2 kids per weight. That will help the larger schools, can you see a situation where a strong team gets 20 or more kids through to regionals, or SS? I don't mind, but there will be a lot of yelling if that were to happen.

Get ahold of @cbarnett. He can give you a local association to join. That association will likely pair you with a more senior official for you to shadow and help you with any of your questions. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks, I did go to the IHSAA site, they had me join the local central Indiana association. I am waiting for the books to be sent to me, and then its time to study and bone up on things. It scares the hell out of me, I have been around wrestling for 23 years, and have yet to ref any match. I intend to go to some local tourneys if and when they start and get used to being out there. My son did ask me what would I do if I ran into a parent like me when I was younger. I said, well, I would listen for a time, then run them out, there is no room for people like me in the stands. We both had a good laugh at that.

  5. Just waiting for my book to come, what advice do any of you have for a guy that has been around for a long time, but never ref'ed  a match? I love this sport, and think that I have learned a lot, and just want to give back to what this sport has given me and my family.

Silas Allred spent under 45 minutes total the entire season combined!  Pinned every person he wrestled with 94% pin percentage in total matches wrestled..137 of 145.. That's just appalling and unreal

And one heck of a great kid. Might be the most dominant wrestler in the history of the state.

In a sense, Track and Swimming work like this. We earn our 2, 3, 4 slots per event based on athletes' recent achievement of time standards. Then we have trials where someone can earn the right to be our rep whether they were one of the ones that previously met that standard or not.

    Thanks, I was just curious.

For our first RTC of 2020 we will be having the legendary Chico Adams run practice.  Two time Indiana State champion and a medalist as a sophomore.  108 match winning streak in high school.  He followed that up with placing 8th at Harper and 5th for Lindsey Wilson.

Practice will be from 6-730 at warren central.  Enter door 14 and wrestling room is upstairs.

Ps.  I’ve heard rumors that there might be a reward for any current heavyweight that can take Coach Adams down.

I can take him, I know it. (he has to wrestle with both arms tied behind his back, and he cant counter anything I try. Then, maybe.)

  9. I do not know if it would help on the international scene, we seem to do decent, and the wrestlers who compete for the USA seem to get plenty of freestyle. I would however like to see some of the rules in folkstyle, the push out rule being top among them.
