  1. Who are some of the other wrestlers over the years that have been number 1 in the nation?  Micic, J. Tsirtsis, Sliga?, Howe, A Tsirtsis?, Escobedo, Larimore, Coughlin, Im sure there were some others and I could see Nick Lee there in a year or two.  Congrats to Red great accomplishment

  2. How about Devon Jackson?  He probably gave Tsirtsis his toughest match in high school besides Quiorga.  I know Naples beat him but Tsirtsis controlled that match.  Is Jackson still wrestling anywhere?

  3. Mitchell Port was in that bracket at Fargo and was 5th or 6th.  He was a NCAA runner up last year and 3rd this year.  Delgado 2 time NCAA champ, Deringer NCAA champ and 3rd last year, Tsirtsis NCAA champ and Port NCAA runner up.  Tsirtsis beat port in that tournament.  Great weight class.  Tsirtisis was only going into his Freshman year.  Tsirtsis beat Wright at Indiana freestyle state that year as well they wrestled in the first round 6-0, 2-0 Tsirtsis.

  4. Listening to Pico on the flo interview after the match it did not sound like he will be wrestling Tsirtsis.  He did not rule it out but did not sound like it will happen.  Too bad really wanted to see it.  Maybe at the WTT in Madison it could happen.

  5. Actually it was a Lat Drop.  Chalfant shot in and McMullan hit a lat drop.  It was pretty sweet.  It is on Mat 3 during the medal round on espn 3 wrestling replays at about the 1:01 hr mark.  Here is a good interview with McMullan talks about the lat drop and about Tsirtsis.

  6. Alex done wrestling?  The new international wt class of 65KG would be perfect for him.  He looked like he was still in good shape.  Yeah I think Jason has learned a lot from Alex.  Enjoyed watching both of them.  Alex was tough on his feet.  Jason is just an extremely smart wrestler solid all positions.

  7. This is absurd!!! The only people arguing this point for Tsirtsis are probably from the region.  Lee wrestled one of the most highly recruited kids in the nation.  I'm going to bet that if you put Jason Tsirtsis in this convo he might not concede from the running but he would laugh at those saying Lee losing to Micic proves anything.  Not to mention who ever it was that posted Cashe's career was anything close to Micic's should be banned.  LOL :D

Micic and Cashe both great wrestlers as is Lee.  Lee might very well be one of the best but the original post was Tsirtsis and Lee freshman year.  I think Tsirtsis wrestled a much tougher schedule and beat Cashe in the semis when nobody thought he would lose that year.  Just my opinion Tsirtsis Freshman campaign was more impressive.

On a side note Htfit78 and Jayruss.  I think you have forgot how good Cashe was.  He lost his soph. year in the finals to Harper a three time champion.  Won his Junior year and his senior year bumped up a weight class a few times to beat Harper.  He beat Wright as well.  After Tsirtsis beat him he went on to win Jr. Nationals beating some good wrestlers and came in second Senior nationals losing to Colon who is #1 this year at 133.  Below are some of the wrestlers he beat to win his Jr title.    Oh yeah I forgot Cashe AA as a true freshman the following year and was ranked 3-5 at 130 in the national rankings that year before Tsirtsis beat him.  Micic vs. Cashe would have been a great match IMO don't think it would have been a major for Micic.  Tsirtsis a freshman beat a senior Stud and Lee did not and got dominated.  I think Tsirtsis's Freshman year was better.  I think Lee will win 3 and is going to be really good not taking anything away from him.

Round 2: Cashe` Quiroga (Indiana) over Ian Fisher (Oklahoma) (Dec 6-0,5-0)

Round 1: Cashe` Quiroga (Indiana) over Tj Guidice (New Jersey) (TF 6-0,6-0)

  8. Remember after Tsirtsis beat Cashe, Cashe went on to win Jr. at Fargo that year in a very tough wt and second at Senior Nationals losing to I think Colon.  Tsirtsis loss to Napules is hard one to explain as he beat him pretty good the other two or three times that year.  I think Napules got a questionable reversal at the buzzer.  Not sure why he tried to ride him he was taking him down so easy in his other matches.  Lee has not wrestled anybody besides Davis.  Tsirtsis freshman year was much more impressive even with the loss to Napules.  Now if Lee beats Micic maybe it is different.
